Heidi, that ear infection is an awful thing to have to deal with long term. Sorry to hear that. I have often wondered why it kept recurring.
Midge - We don't pay for ambulance transport at the time here in Queensland. It is charged to every household in their quarterly power bill.

Candy is back home from the Vet Clinic and sleeping it off in a crate. Poor little girl has had a rough day. I wonder if she thought that she was back in an animal shelter when I left her there? Tho' plainly still under the influence of anesthesia, she looks happy and relieved to see me when I picked her up.

Heidi, it's wonderful to read that you are already making progress with Reeses! I can't imagine how things would have gone with an inexperienced owner.
Will be keeping you and Candy and the vet in my thoughts tomorrow!
I read the article by Emma Thompson and shared it on Facebook. I can only hope and pray that it's not too late and people will finally do whatever is needed to stop the denial and start working FOR the planet - and for ourselves and our families!

Great and timely TOPP, CynB!
I'm thinking we might want to try beer can chicken, based on the 'reviews' here. The trouble is that neither of us drinks beer, so that's a lot of unused beer left sitting around, unless he have a LOT of chicken.
Heidi, I'm so glad Candy is back at home and appears to be relieved that you came to get her and bring her back home. With all of the commotion the other dogs could create, it's probably best that you have put her in a crate.
It's later than I thought (past midnight), so I should get some sleep. Sending positive and cheery thoughts, healing energy for all, {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, prayers, and

This is the recipe I followed for beer can chicken.
https://www.weber.com/US/en/recipes/poultry/beer-can-chicken/weber-6547.html
I used a Weber charcoal grill with apple wood chunks, for the smoke...
I have heard of folks using coke or Dr Pepper, also.
I have a frame that holds the can and the chicken, as balancing the chicken and can on the grill can be 'problematic'...

Thank you DorA - I am going to try that in an air fryer. Have to nick the can of beer from hubby first - that will be the difficult part.
Poor Candy - hope she feels better and you do too Heidi with that ear infection.
Julie - think Emma Thompson may have some effect - at least hope so. What most nincompoops believe these days doesn't seem to matter - they are greedy and not interested in the future of our planet.
Weather beautiful at the moment 20C and very little breeze - won't have to watch the gum tree outside our bay window tonight. Has been very windy and we have lost a few minor branches - just hope the big ones stay on. We planted this tree in 1973 and it is huge and only about six feet from our house. Local council saw it about a year ago and have listed it as a heritage tree so we cannot do anything to it without council approval.

Midge, our local council has one rule for themselves and another for everyone else. They have no problem cutting down a 100; year old tree, but waited until 2 people were injured, at different times, before allowing another tree to be cut down. They have lightened up a little because a family put in a request multiple times to have a tree removed, denied, and it ended up falling on the husband and killing him

Those council members who denied the family the right to cut down a dangerous tree should be put on trial for manslaughter. I don't believe any government should have the right to tell people what they can do with their own property, as long as it does not pose a serious danger to other people or living creatures.

That is appalling Suzy. Our council does not do the 3 RRRs - roads, rates and rubbish - they interfere with social conscience and we pay for it. We have a block of land with mature and dead trees on it and they want to charge us a fee for permits to remove the dead ones!!
Like your suggestion DorA - will have to prise it out of his mouth first....

Good Evening, Fellow Sudokuaholics!
Heidi, I hope Candy is doing well this evening, and hope you are also feeling better! I certainly wish I knew of some special or magic treatment that could help you with your ear infections!
Thanks for the beer can chicken recipe, DOrA! Also, thanks for mentioning a frame to keep it stable when standing. That makes sense!
Midge, I hope your gum tree is able to hold onto its major branches! I know there are some municipalities in our area that determine what a homeowner can do with a tree on their own property. Luckily, that isn't the case here where we live.
Suzy, how awful for the family whose husband/father was killed when a disputed tree fell on him. I agree with Heidi; the council should be put on trial for manslaughter.
Suzy, I'm glad your property is exempt so you can do whatever you deem necessary with trees growing there!
DOrA, some good suggestions for getting access to a can of beer. That would only work in a household where someone drinks beer, of course.
Some interesting conversation today! Thanks to all those who participated!

Food for thought...
I am Looking forward to deer hunting season but I do have a question. If I shoot a buck, but I only have a doe tag, can I claim that the buck wasn't really a buck? I mean … maybe he'd always wanted to be a doe, but with no choice of his own he was born with the physical attributes of a male.
And yet … on the inside he'd always known he was truly a female. I'm just wondering if I can get the game warden to buy that BS, because Society and the Supreme Court do.

Why do you hunt deer in the first place? Do you need the food? Is there a serious overpopulation problem in your area where there isn't enough food for the deer to eat? Or do you just enjoy killing for fun?
When predators like wolves kill deer, elk or bison, they observe the herd carefully and look for sick, injured or weak animals. Not only are they easier for the predators to catch, but by removing those individuals they make the herd healthier. Diseases don't spread as easily. Deformities don't get passed on. And the strongest, healthiest individuals do the breeding. When humans hunt, they pick off the biggest, healthiest individuals, leaving the weaker individuals to reproduce, and leaving sick animals to spread diseases. They weaken the health of an entire population and allow such epidemics as Chronic Wasting Disease to become endemic. In my opinion, hunting for trophies or ''sport'' is sick and should be criminalized. Killing anything should never be ''fun'' for a healthy mind. Finding killing ''fun'' is one reason we're having so many mass shootings. That and the easy availability of weapons for ''sport''. Hunting only to put food on the table at least just randomly removes animals from a herd and doesn't do as much damage.
I feel VERY strongly about this subject.

So, Heidi in light of your thoughts on human vs predator hunting, at the grocery, do you pick the old wilted produce and items past their ''best by'' dates or do you go for the good stuff?
Thought so.............

Totally irrelevant. The food sold in grocery stores has been farmed and controlled. The animals used for meat production have been kept healthy and carefully managed. It has nothing to do with wild populations or killing for fun and sport.

Transgender is not BS, it’s part of a normal physical spectrum. You are showing your age DorA. And, yes, it’s possible the buck believes it’s a doe, the physical spectrum applies to animals too.

Hi, Everyone!
To be honest, I feel uncomfortable with the direction taken by some comments. Are they meant to attack another member? For many years we have managed to accept all members and their thoughts and opinions. I may be wrong, but it has seemed that trophy hunting was not seen as a direction most of us would follow. I guess I had innocently assumed that those who hunted used the meat, and perhaps even the hide, for personal use, rather than discarding the animal after enjoying the thrill of the hunt and publicizing the virtues of the size of the animal shot.
Perhaps I'm just naive in assuming that others' thought processes and experiences were/are similar to mine.
With that said, I hope the genial nature of this group will remain as it once was. I apologize if I have misinterpreted comments I read.
Sending healing energy, positive thoughts,

I took DOrA's original comment about hunting as a humorous side-swipe at a situation that may arise in resolving adherence to hunting tag regulations.
As I understand it, the total numbers of buck and doe tags issued by the regulating authority would be calculated with a view to keeping the breeding population in balance. The inspector is thus unlikely to accept the transgender argument suggested by DOrA.
Those who hunt deer for their own table cannot just go shoot a deer and take the meat/hide/head home. They also must have the relevant tags for any deer that they take. Similar rules apply to roos and other game animals in Australia.
DevilOrAngel, you certainly managed to stir the pot!

DOrA has figured out how to press my buttons. And I know ALL hunters are required to have permits. But killing anything should not be fun. I once had my idiot ex-husband arrested for poaching because he wanted to have fun with friends hunting (and drinking) without a licence. I told him in advance that I would report him if he did it, and he chose to do it anyways. He was caught in the act, arrested and fined $3000.00.

This chemo business for Col is getting him down. He refers to the chemo as weed-killer and worries more about what they're pumping into him than getting better. I'm with him to a point. It is making him feel generally unwell even though he can function and go to work, he seldom has times where he feels great. Combine that with only having sight in one eye. He's half blind. He's constantly got reflux. His fingers go numb on a cold morning. But as the days warms up, and we've had some hot days lately, he feels like a cold drink - nope, can't even touch anything cold let alone try to swallow. There's more but I won't go on.
I worry that if he ever gets a recurrence of this, perish the thought, that he would refuse chemo!

Hi, Everyone!
CynB, thanks for letting us know that MizT posted on TOS. She must have been very frustrated without access to her landline and computer/internet.
I'm sorry to hear that chemo and side effects are so discouraging for Col! It's certainly understandable, though. It's been quite a while since things/daily life were 'normal' for him. There's a LOT on his plate that he's having to deal with on a daily basis. I hope when he gets to the end of chemo he will be able to get back to a certain degree of normalcy. BTW, I've enjoyed some of the humorous posts he has shared on TOS! I hope that's an indication that he still has his sense of humor/humour and finds some enjoyment in each day!

Our Emily is turning 18 in November (can you believe it?). She has two dogs who are her pride and joy. I commissioned my friend from Art class, who did the horse painting for Madeline, to paint the dogs for Emily's birthday. I have just uploaded a photograph of the painting which is now in being framed. She will love it.

I am so distressed. A bushfire has been started deliberately up north of Brisbane, just south of Noosa. Our closest friends have had to evacuate. The fire has engulfed their estate. I know they have evacuated but I am so worried for their welfare. They have a 10 year old son. I have offered them a bed here but we are an hour or more away from them. They want to stay close. Keep them in your thoughts please. I do hope that their house survives.

I'm feeling awful. I ran out of methadone 3 days ago and can't get another refill for 2 more weeks. The pain at night keeps me from sleeping and I feel like a zombie. Not fun at all. It's going to be a rough 2 weeks so don't expect me here much. I won't be overly lucid.

I hope your friends and all others are safe from the Peregian fire - and the police have the right offenders and throw the book at them - but as they are so young they will probably just get a slap on the wrist. This is where I believe parents have to be held responsible. Pray no-one is injured. My friend, who lives at O'Reillys, is in Melbourne as her mother has just passed and has heard her area is also evacuated. So sad as she has also just finished another round of chemo and is stressed out enough without the possibility of losing her home.
