Tomorrow is London's final treatment. She's doing great.

Heidi I heard the current US stats on number of vaccs and the relationship to people passing. it is so hard to believe that people can be so ignorant - don't they look around them and see what is happening in the world?
My last order of alpaca wool arrived the day after the fire - so fortunate.
Apartment accommodation is now confirmed until Sept. 3 and we may move on then - found out there are 4 families in these apartments that have been here for nearly a year because their homes were damaged in the storms at the end of August 2020 (when our top balcony was damaged - still not fixed) so we may be here long term too.
Cheers to all

Heidi, the story of the two additional kittens reminds me of a story from my childhood about the Three Little Kittens. They lost their mittens and they began to cry, 'Oh Mother dear, see here, see here. Our mittens we have lost.' It goes on from there. The version our family had was a 'Little Golden Book.' I hope all three recover and grow to be wonderful cats to enjoy life on your farm! They are all certainly young cats if they don't yet know how to pee or poop. I'm glad you found them and were able to intervene to get them healthy!

It sounds like you have a multi-colored assortment of turkey poults, Heidi! I hope your ear is doing better!

Midge, I'm glad you have been able to extend the time where you are currently staying. Now would NOT be a good time to relocate. Certainly it's NO fun to be dealing with a sprained ankle along with the spine injection! Happy Quiet Birthdays to your Hubby and Number 3 son! A family picnic sounds like a wonderful idea when it can be arranged! I hope everyone in your family is well and stays that way, and hope you are soon feeling better!

Heidi, I'm so glad you caught London before things got too bad.

I'm glad the new corral panels are now attached to the barn! Sure hope that makes working the cattle the next time much easier!

Heidi, I couldn't agree with you more. I don't know what it will take to finally get the CovidIdiots and Naysayers to finally wake up to the very honest need for vaccination, masks, and social distancing.

I'm off to bed. Sending , healing energy, prayers, positive thoughts, and {{{{{HUGS}}}}} to Everyone! Take care and stay well!

Robert is a Republican, and had refused to get vaccinated because Trump told them that it was a scam (tho' he was one of the first to get the vaccines). I finally told him that I no longer cared if the d@mned Republicans got vaccinated. They were voluntarily solving our problems by killing themselves and their families with their stupidity, and reminded him that he was threatening the lives of his 2 grandkids as well. I told him that I didn't care any more if every single person who refused to get vaccinated died. I think I shocked Robert. He got the first shot the next day.

Two great TOPPS, Heidi! Thank you for sharing them!

Hooray for London's final treatment and a clean bill of health!

Midge, I'm so glad your last order of alpaca wool arrived AFTER the fire! I had been wondering about that.

Heidi, I'm glad your approach worked with Robert! Good for you! I can't believe he was remaining unvaccinated with all of his health issues. I hope he will willingly get his second shot when it's due! What a blessing it would be if others could be convinced to finally get vaccinated!

We are monitoring information about a booster for the vaccinations & need to find out what the transplant nephrologists think is best. We also still have 2 grannies under the age of 12 , so families are being vigilant.

Thinking of everyone! DOrA, I hope your preparing the property for eventual sale is going well. I can't imagine all of the driving you need to do between home and the property. Stay well!

The black male kitten (Spooky) and thr tortoiseshell female kitten (Tiger Lily) are home now and doing well. The calico female (no name until I know she'll make it) is still at the Vet Clinic. She had a setback and stopped eating. Mike is feeding her formula with a syringe.

I named the tortie Tiger Lily after a tortie kitten my favorite aunt gave me on my 10th birthday. I adored that kitten, but because she wasn't a ''registered purebred'', my mother and step-father gave her away.... and replaced her with a nasty tempered registered cat that THEY named Rubiyat. Rubiyat grew into a homely cat that killed everything she got near. I saw Tiger Lily once as an adult, and she was one of the sweetest, most beautiful cats I ever saw. So I decided to name this kitten after her.

*** don't read if you've just eaten ***

The day before yesterday I lost my temper. A friend's daughter had a cat that was horribly injured and in horrific pain, and she was doing nothing about it , except saying that she was giving it time to heal on it's own. I finally threatened to press charges for cruelty to animals, and told them that I was going to ask Mike the Vet to euthanize the poor creature. Since this daughter has already spent considerable time in jail, and didn't want to return, she turned the cat over to me yesterday, and Mike and I gently put her out of her pain. This poor cat's leg was completely shattered in so many pieces that it was mush, and the gangrene was spreading into the rest of the body. The poor cat had been suffering with massive pain for a couple of years! Mike was in shock over her condition. We did the kindest thing possible for the poor thing.
I plan on demanding that my friends daughter NEVER own another animal, or I will hound her on animal abuse charges. Anyone who would let another living creature suffer like that has no business owning a pet. Fortunately, she can't have children, or god knows what would happen to them.

Heidi - people like that girl should have their foreheads tattooed so everyone knows how revolting they are. An animal cruelty charge may wake her up to showing some sort of responsibility if it hurts her back pocket. Makes it difficult with your friend but if this person worth it?
Your 'parents' were doozies too.
Went to the house for the first time in a while yesterday - think 6 months before we can go back may be optimistic. fed a kookaburra while i was there, he calls at 4am every morning - strange as that is well before sunrise.
Julie - my nephrologist told me last week in Aust. they are pushing for transplant patients to be given boosters as priority so hopefully it is the same case in the U.S. Compromised immune system makes it difficult for treatment too if you get covid as your transplant is compromised if given antibiotics. Catch 22.

New page and I haven't posted for days, but I have read the posts. Hello to all. Nothing interesting happenning here.
Heidi, how awful about that cat with the mashed up leg. I'm glad you took it from her but sad it had to be euthanised.
Midge, I agree about the tattoo on the forehead for people who mistreat animals.
I also think something should be done to indicate the people who won't wear masks, won't social distance, won't observe lockdown regulations and won't get vaccinated and then protest unsafely about 'their' rights. Tattoo? Spray them with indelible dye when they are gathering illegally. Ignorant b@stards!!

Heidi, good news about Spooky and Tiger Lily! I like her name and the cat she was named for. I'm so sorry she couldn't have been a forever pet for you as you were growing up. What a shame that your parents set unrealistic priorities and deprived you of a wonderful pet. I hope the third kitten improves. Good for Mike for syringe feeding her formula!

Heidi, a temper tantrum over the non-treatment by your friend's daughter of the severely injured cat was well-deserved. It had obviously been more than a couple days that she let the cat go untreated. There was no viable alternative to euthanizing her. At least her pain has come to an end!

Midge, I agree that there should be some way to make people who mistreat animals permanently identifiable.

I imagine it's hard to go to the house, Midge. Too bad that a 6-month time line is overly optimistic. Wishing you all the best! (I didn't realized kookaburras can serve as an alarm clock. That's WAY TOO EARLY for me!

It's good to see you pop in, CynB!. How's Col doing? Another good idea - ways to identify the COVID-idiots.

That's sad about the cat not making it, Heidi!
My daughter's partner had a lovely friendly black cat who once he got to know me always came up for a pat and a snuggle. He passed away recently from some blockage that the vet couldn't fix. He now has this tabby kitten called Gemma who is such a cute friendly little thing with perfectly symmetrical markings. I'm more of a dog person but these two cats got to my heart.
Julie, I hope the ultrasounds don't find anything bad. Maybe he just wants to check that all is well.

Good luck with the venous ultrasounds of your legs, Julie. Poor leg circulation can lead to a lot of problems including leg swelling. I'm just glad your doctor cares enough to try and find out what is really causing your cellulitis, instead of just treating symptoms and forgetting about you, lika a lot of doctors do now.

I just dropped off 9 dozen eggs at the food pantry, then went to town for alpaca food and to stop at the transmission shop to check on Thunder the Tundra. They hope to have her fixed by Thursday afternoon or evening, if there are no surprises.

CynB, it sounds like your daughter's partner has good taste in cats.

Hubby and I tend to prefer dogs, but had 2 long-terms cats living with us who left their paw prints on our hearts. They each started as rescue cats - one with each daughter, but became our cats when our daughters relocated and could no longer keep them. One was a gray tabby who lived to be 19 1/2, though her last months saw many trips to the vet. The other was a beautiful delicate calico who didn't really 'meow' but said a very quiet 'Hi.' She liked water - and would always join me if I was eating raw spinach. She would meet us at the door when we got home, though it took her a while to let me pet her. She would jump up on the desk beside me when I was at the computer - never bothering me or the computer. Gradually I began to move my hand closer to her, then eventually touch, then pet her. She was our 'puppy-cat' and sometimes called Little Miss Under-Foot. They didn't particularly care for each other, but we miss them.

I'll try to remember to share later this week what my doctor tells me are the results of the ultrasounds.

Heidi, Ii bet the food pantry was thrilled to get 9 dozen eggs. Do clients take a full dozen, or only a half-dozen at a time?

I hope Thunder the Tundra is feeling better! Is she getting a check-up/repairs or a completely new transmission?

How sad for that young new mother who wasn't ever able to hold her baby!

OK.... I think I have this sorted. Thunder the Tundra is supposed to be ready late tomorrow. My regular mechanics supplied me with a rental for the interim. I just talked to them. Tomorrow, as soon as I hear that Thunder is ready, I'll drive the rental to my mechanic's, pay for the rental, then they will drive me to the transmission shop where I'll pick up Thunder. This sporty little rental (brand new Nissan Altima) is fun to drive, with all the modern gizmos and gadgets, but I can't tow a trailer with it. At least it had an enormous trunk (boot) for hauling feed. I got 400 lbs / 181 kg of feed in there st one time. That's 8 big bags of feed.

Bad day.
I've spent the day rushing back and forth to the rest room with the Aztec Twostep. Haven't been able to do much, even with Imodium.
Then, the part for my truck didn't come in when expected, so Thunder won't be ready until Monday or Tuesday of next week. I miss her SO much. Yes, I have the rental, but I've already had it for 2 weeks, and the rental fees are piling up.

Unfortunately, something came up and the transmission shop closed for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so even if the part comes in, they can't resume work until Monday morning. I didn't ask them why they closed for Friday. I assumed it was something personal.
I have a feed run again this morning, then I should be good until my truck is back. And Robert has a doctor's appointment this afternoon. A couple of days ago, a friend spotted what he thinks might be a melanoma on Robert's back, and wanted him to get to the doctor ASAP. This is the earliest they could see him. I'm hoping I can turn in the rental a few days before Thunder is ready, so I can save some money. But it might get really complicated getting rides home, then into the transmission shop. Nobody else I know is available to drop everything to help out.

Heidi, I'm sorry the transmission shop closed for the entire weekend. You're kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place with no one available to help out in case of emergency. Is there any chance the daily rental rate might be reduced since you needed to rent over an extended period of time? I hope the spot on Robert's back isn't a melanoma.

Good for you for getting the feed for next week purchased, brought home, and put away, Heidi! I hope the kittens enjoyed their lunch!

DOrA, that you would feel comfortable requesting a ride from, but lives 80 miles away, must be a very good friend or family member! Gosh, even your repair shop is 30 miles away, but good the they have a loaner vehicle! I was thinking 30 miles away for a repair shop sounded like a lot, but if we take a vehicle in for work at the dealership where we bought it, it is probably close to 30 miles for us, too.

Sorry you had to drive though storms when you took Robert to and from the doctor. I hope he got a clean bill of health!

What an unfortunate COVID horror story, Heidi. I can't imagine why the teacher thought she needed to take off her mask in order to read a story too her class.

Another day of feeling cruddy from the ear infection. But whenever I start feeling sorry for myself, I think it could be worse. The area around New Orleans is due to be hit by a horrific hurricane tomorrow. The latest prediction is that this will be the worst storm to hit there since the 1850's! Heidi, hope you are feeling better by now. That hurricane sounds awful. I'm hoping that New Orleans is better prepared for it than for Katrina. I can still see the despair on the faces of those in that stadium and the lack of help they got. I have my fingers crossed for all those in the path.

The reminants of Hurricane Ida are due to hit here in about 3 or 4 hours, and contunue for several days. We need the rain, but more importantly, our temperatures will drop down to comfortable levels where no a/c is needed.

I wish Col good luck, CynB. But most important is that he still has an eye and can see a little from it, despite it being very blurry. It's a LOT better than losing the eye entirely.
