OH GAIL, just reading about D#3, and the bullies, back on page 193. that is soo scary. when they take it outside school and get physical, yes, time for the police to be involved too.

Cyber stalking and Libel(the written defamation of character of another) is taking it further than was in our day. Girls might call you names, but they did not publish it. The internet writings now do help to make more of a civil, or police case, the only good that comes of that.

When I was in school, the most "writing" entered the picture were notes being passed around, calling someone fatty, a pig, or a dog or such. I do not know what has happened to our children of this generation. there has always been jockying for place in any society, Pecking order as it were, who will dominate a group and who will follow. but not to the extent I am seeing now.

As one friend of mine is apt to say "Some people's kids"

Yes, I think that may be a contributing cause for the increase in bullying and worse. Noone is held accountable for thier actions, all is forgiven too soon, children never learn because there are no lasting consequences to what they do. Parents take up for them (not MY child, they would never do that), get them off without punishment, the schools and the law do not punish them, and they never learn. There has to be a cause and effect relationship for learning. I do this, and that happens, and it always happens that way. Children test it to see, and if it is not a consistant unplesant reaction to thier actions, they will continue the action. I bully someone, and I get punished for it, I stop. I bully someone and the consequenses are not unplesant to me, I do it again and again and again. OK, off my soap box now.

MizT... There has always been bullying in schools. When I was in Elementary school, I used to get beaten up regularly. And back then, people in authority would either look the other way, or say that we had to work it out for ourselves (Ha... fat chance) or just not believe me. Plus, I was an abused child at home, so parents would tell everyone that I was a compulsive liar and nobody would believe me.
Nowadays, teachers are trained to look for signs of abuse, and the kids are believed. In that regard, it IS better now.
I find it mind boggling that any school now would not only NOT suspend kids who bully, terrorize and harass others, but actually allow them to receive awards for good citizenship! I think a well worded letter needs to be written to the school superintendent, and another to the local newspaper. To the latter, no names need to be mentioned.

Hello all. Very smoky here this morning. Supposed to rain here today, I hope it does. Not sure where the fire is. We had some lightening last night and a few drops of rain, apparently not enough.

How are you this afternoon?
I'm still buzzing around trying to catch up on the news and doing the puzzles.
Sure don't like all the bullying that's been going on. Makes me want to go down under and some bully butt! But then, that is how they probably came to their ways. We learn by example and I wouldn't be surprised if their parents are abusive.

How awesome is that!!! I would just die to see one of those critters in my trees...but nothing for them to eat here.

Suzy - I know you're going to be beating the pavement (or gravel, as it were) today...will be keeping good thoughts for you and your deliveries.

But MizT, the party was not going on at 2 am OZ time. I just looked back at some posts, and I think Gath has found a pattern. I am clueless as to why then? That's noon my time (east coast USA). Perhaps our fearless leader can figure out this mystery.

Heidi, you were very right, the party was not going on at 2 am site time. I did look back 3 days and found we had commented on problems between 2 and 3 am site time.

Maybe that is why none of the Aussies ever complained??

I am NOT here! Today is the 20th anniversary of meeting hubby, which means Gath and Kim have to become parents today so I can win the competition!! BTW, once Gath is a dad, he'll be up at 2 in the morning!

Heidi, I say something similar to people who talk about the 'good old days' when neighbours new each other and helped each other and talked to each other bla bla bla.... I point out that some things just weren't talked about and that was very very bad!!!

Koala Update - rang the Koala people yesterday, they wanted me to let them know if he was still here this morning but he has moved on overnight. Hopefully he's headed back east to open bushland. Too many dogs around - that's probably why he was in our tree, we don't have a dog at the moment. At least the dogs around are calmer today - they were unsettled yesterday, they knew the koala was there.

Thanks for the Koala update - glad he moved on so you didn't have to have them come and extracate the poor guy. Hope he's heading to the wilds, too!

Viv - read about John on Easy and am keeping him in my prayers. Glad he has you to keep an eye on him.
