I figure if I have my health, can pay the rent and I have my friends, I call it "content."

I was busy today. I hooked up a trailer and went with Robert to pick up his new motorcycle. He found a good one for only $600. But it doesn't have tags so it's not street legal. If he had tried to drive it home, he would have been ticketed. After I got home, I took the finish mower out and mowed the area around IH's lab. He says it's never looked better. After that, I planted a wisteria to grow on the fence in front of the house. I'm now preparing spareribs for supper.

Busy days. Daughter and grand daughter here yesterday going through old photos (and there are many hundreds) as a friend will put a 'book' together for her.
It did mean I missed my older daughter's birthday and I felt bad as she lives by herself and did not have anyone to help her celebrate. I did note that a few here sent her greetings on FB. Thank you. She is out today doing some dressage otherwise I could have visited today.

June, wish your daughter a happy birthday for me as I don't think we are friends on FB.

Off to bed for me. Hope everyone has a great day/night wherever you are.

Nola, my heart goes out to you and Judy. I do know how devastated you must feel for it to be back so soon. Lets hope for a treatment to work this time as there are new drugs or combinations being used all the time.
Congratulations on your results and hope for a pay rise for all your efforts.

Hi all.
I have only spoken to Judy once since she told me by phone, but as before, she seems to be taking it very well. She has a lot of faith in God which seems to make it easier to accept what ever happens.
I am sure I would not be as brave.
June...happy birthday to your other daughter. Some times you just cannot spread yourself thin enough to meet every ones needs.Don't feel bad, as you are doing your best.

Greg and I filled the garbage bins both ordinary & recycle, from junk in the shed this morning. It looks so much bigger & cleaner and it didn't take long either.
I have lost my enthusiasm now for mowing. It took too long for the grass to dry out after the heavy dew.
I'll try to call in later. Enjoy your day everyone.

Afternoon all,
Once again I have been reading but not commenting. My brain isn't functioning at its best at the moment, sorry.

Theresa, looking out for the comments about how the wedding went, it would have been hard on so little sleep!

MizT, sorry about your painful hips but glad the meds are helping today.

Nola, I didn't go to my graduation either - too far to travel and I'd done it all before. I suppose I should have as the first time I graduated Uni I was 2 days out of hospital and on another planet, but it doesn't seem as important now I'm older. I hope you are at least going to go out for dinner to celebrate - we did! Hope all the paperwork gets sorted quickly!!

Tami, I feel your frustration at not being told about eye problems! If Dana had told us earlier it may have made a real difference to her eventual outcome...

Heidi, I had to read your comment a few times to make sure I read it right. Gil complemented you? Now I'm waiting to hear what he wants..Bummed I missed the spareribs, nearly $30 a kilo here but I look at them longingly every now and then..

June, I think your D understands that she will have many more birthdays to share with you, while photo sharing is an important thing! I hope she had a great day!

Nola, sometimes little things, like filling a couple of bins, can make all the difference to how you feel!

Thoughts, hugs and wishes to June, friend and little one, MizT and Al, Nola and Judy, and of course anyone else who needs them!

Here is an excerpt from an email to Forever Archie..

So i played the watermelon song to the A&R Manager here at Warner and he thought it was great.. everyone who popped their head's in the door while it was on, he would say "They're FOURTEEN!" :)

So i'm going to give him your other two tracks to check out too... and the sooner we can get him some fresh stuff the better :)

Had a 'discussion' with hubby today. Told him his father needs a kick up the butt for not teaching how to look after tools. That his drill and the leftover nails were left out all night and were now covered in dirt from a hole the dog's dug. I said 'you are like a child with your tools.' I feel bad for saying it, but he is!!

Hi everyone, hope you're all well.

Big hugs to those who need them, especially June and Nola's sister.

Suzy, wow, Forever Archie is doing great!

Qld folks with kids - My boy is appearing in Ben 10 in Toowoomba at the moment. Not sure where they go next, but they'll be in Qld for the school holidays ... I'm sure they're great! (Ok, I haven't seen it ...) ;D

Hard Rubbish collection starts tomorrow, so we've been emptying cupboards and chucking stuff out - what a great feeling when it's finished! The house and garden look quite a bit better. :)

Suzy, he does have a page but doesn't use it much - I'll have to find out if he uses another name ... At the moment he travels quite a lot, so doesn't get to use his computer much. He sends us pictures of the snack bars in his hotel rooms ... I don't know why! Guess it's his weird running-gag ...

Morning all. Funny kiddie story. The boys had cookies after breakfast. I decided I wanted one too and could not find the package. Looked in pantry, garbage, fridge and still no luck. Called boys downstairs. My brilliant older child put the cookies in the freezer

Tami, frozen cookies are good, thanks for the offer.

Just up here, no coffee yet, and I am wondering why hehehe. Perhaps I should go make a pot, ya think??

Coffee cup now full, Al has his cocoa, we are off to a good start.

We had more rain yesterday. Our area was lucky, we had a nice gentle soaky rain. Nearby areas had buckets of rain, I think I heard 3 and 4 inches in less than an hour, with the subsequent flash flooding. My front grass is coming back green, but splotchy, some areas did not survive the dry and being cut too short. It will fill in, that grass is good about sending out runners.

Al is resting up after such a busy week, I think he has recovered somewhat now, Hope he gets a few more days of rest fore he goes back to the shop. It is so terribly hot out there, it would sap the energy of a well man. ;He does take frequent breaks in the office which has AC so that helps. Said he had to get moving to get his strength back, He is not one to "do exercises" as instructed, rather do something useful, said making things in shop was his exercise.

I have been enjoying my petunias twice, both inside and outside. I was not able to get the wave petunias I had previous years, and these I have get too leggy, always growing longer/taller to bloom on the terminal tip. Nothing in the middle, so this year, I have been cutting them back, and taking the trimmings inside. they are short stemmed blossoms, but I have a wide mouth bud vase, and I keep adding water daily. Usually the bloom opened is followed by the bud opening, so the cut flowers do last a bit. I have had blooms on my kitchen sink for over a month now. Those hot pink blooms contrast nicely with my African violets that are blue with white edges. Makes kitchen duty almost fun hehehe. The pots of petunias have rewarded me with more blooms, too, sending out new shoots on the sides of the cut stems, more blooms outside too a win win.

OK. tile to get something done. I need to thaw and cook chicken, see if hubby can eat that. Catch you later today.

Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Afternoon all.

My internet was down all morning - how did people survive without internet before? It was one of the longest mornings of my life!!!

Yesterday everything went well with one hitch. When it was time to go to the church, hubby and I were going to take his mother (his dad wasn't going). I asked hubby to put his mom's walker in the car and she said, "I won't be needing it. I haven't told your sister yet" (the bride to be) "but I'm not going." I just looked at hubby and said, "Let's go." I had to get out of there as I was afraid I was going to say something, and it just wasn't the day to do that. His sister was not happy to learn that her mom was not going, but she accepted it for what it was and moved on. But the wedding went very well - both hubby and I remembered everything we had to do. The luncheon was well attended and there was tons of food. Even though it was a "best wishes only" luncheon, many people did bring gifts, and practical ones for two people over 50 getting married to second spouses. We got them certificates for nice restaurants, someone else got them grocery store certificates, gas certificates, to mention only a few. They were blending two households when they got married, so they certainly didn't need regular wedding gifts. All in all a very nice day (except for the incident at the beginning.

I was wondering if anyone else got a message from a new member. I hate to mention a name, but I am questioning the validity of the message. I tend to be a somewhat naive individual, but ... could I send the message to a couple of you as a PM to tell me what you think??? I think I need help on this one.

Thanks June, I wasn't sure if it was a language problem or not, but it made me a bit uncomfortable.

Tami, aside from the fact that the bride's parents refused to go, it was really nice. This is the daughter who looks after her parents on a daily basis, takes them to appointments, gets their groceries, etc.

Theresa, did she give a reason why she did not want to go? It is a shame she did not attend the wedding but I am still glad the rest went well. You deserve a nice quiet evening after all the work you did.

Tami, first she said she wasn't feeling up to it. Then she said she was afraid she would fall and spoil the wedding. The family thinks she was jealous in a way. She has been against the wedding from the beginning. She is of the opinion that her daughter has enough of a life with them and helping them, that she shouldn't need another husband. She just can't understand that her daughter needs a life apart from them. She is just being very selfish. She never used to be like that, at least not as bad. Hubby and his sister have some hard decisions to make sooner rather than later.

What a selfish decision at the very last minute. It would have been nicer if she had discussed with this with her daughter beforehand rather than dump it in your laps to be the bearers of bad news!
I am glad the day went off well in every other way.

No Gail, he didn't. He hasn't left the house in probably a year or so. He could have gone in a wheelchair, but he refused. But he told his daughter he wouldn't be going about a month ago, and he told her he would be there in spirit. That softened the blow a little bit.

I think hubby's parents are depressed about getting older and losing their independence. It almost seems like they have given up and are just waiting to die. My sister-in-law has the same doctor as her mother, and the next time my MIL goes to the doctor, the doctor is going to be brutally honest with her. The doctor is going to tell her that if they don't start taking better care of themselves, the doctor just has to sign one piece of paper and they will be sent to a long-term care facility. It sounds brutal, but I think it's what they need. My MIL has stopped taking her diabetes medication (without the doctor knowing about it) because she thinks she knows better and she doesn't need it any more. Yet there are times she gets dizzy and I'm thinking her blood sugar is out of whack.

Once the doctor "threatens" my MIL, I am hoping she will be more amenable to, for example, having me come down a few days a week (and spending the nights as well), to give my sister-in-law some help. With hubby's 2 jobs, he just can't do that. Hubby was flabbergasted I made the offer and he was quite touched. So instead of looking after my daughter, who doesn't need a lot of help any more, I may be looking after them. It will be tough, but something has to be done. These people were like parents to me and I care very much about what happens.

Yeah, it sounds selfish, but she sounds elderly, and elderly people can be selfish without realizing it. Just like young children. And it beats her making a jealous scene at the wedding. It's past, so needs to be forgotten.

BTW, my sister-in-law lives right next door to her parents. We are close enough to be sisters, so at least I would have company if I do move to the country.

Sorry to be so long-winded today, but I just wanted to get it off my chest.

Cute story, at least to me. My youngest insisted on making a fruit salad for me for lunch. Blueberries, a layer of cheese, raspberries, a layer of cheese, strawberries, a layer of cheese, topped with 2 pieces of cantaloupe. None of the fruit was washed. I sat there and ate it and told her how delicious it was and it just hit the spot. She was so proud.
