To all the caregivers, I give everyone of you a lot of credit. I don't want to think about what the future holds. I am thankful that my parents are still in good shape and have their mental facilities. My dad has some health issues, COPD, but my mom makes sure he does what he is supposed to.

How old are your parents Tami?
My mum is almost 92 and really it is in the last 2-3 years that she really is in need of care!

My dad will be 83 in about 2 weeks. The only thing I will say about my mom is that I am 29 and she is 39. That is my story and I am sticking too it.

My dad would have been 95 in August (he died when he was 78). Which makes my parents about 10/12 years older than yours..
From my experience with my own Mum, and Friends with similar aged parents.. it is around mid to late 80's, in a blink of an eye, that they become frail and is in need of care, but they fight it 'vewy vewy hard' To Stay 'Independent'! and they are vewy selfish... it is all about 'ME'!

Morning all,
MizT, I have just borrowed 2 books from the library and am looking forward to having an opportunity to read them. I saw the author interviewed on TV and she was promoting book 17 of a series of books about the same character. I figure if she'd made it to 17, they must be alright and borrowed 2 of them, number 5, and a 'between the numbers' one, which means there are at least 18 of them! It was Janet Evanovich by the way.

Heidi, I hope there are no leaks when you turn the water on. I'm told cockroaches are a way of life where we live because of all the sheds and animals. Doesn't matter if they are normal, hate the blasted things!! I have a friend whose hubby cheated on her, well, kind of, backed out at the very last minute from what I can tell. The very last minute. 2 years after she found out she still can't let it go and it is eating her up. She made the decision to stay with him, but can't move past it. If I have any advice at all it is, whatever you decide, don't regret it. If this has been going on for a while I suspect you'll find out from the woman sooner or later. Unless she's married too.

I have had one speeding ticket - and I wasn't driving! Hubby was, but he didn't send the letter in saying it was him in time so it's on my record... grrrrr... I'm fairly anal about staying within the speed limit. I find the times I tend to speed are when I'm doing flow of traffic speeds and forget to look at the speedometer.

Theresa, if a care home is the best thing for your in laws, then your hubby really needs to look at things in the excellent way Mamacita described, as a loving gesture. If they are angry with him, then I don't really believe it is 'them' if you know what I mean, and he could focus on the younger years... How nice of your daughter to think of you when she went shopping! What goes around comes around...

Cyn, I think cruise control unsets as soon as you hit the brakes. It used to in our car anyway, when we had a car flash enough to have cruise control - which has been a while...

Pretty young deaths in my family, I've outlived my father by more than 10 years so far.

That's a tough one Heidi. As a widow she may be enjoying her independence and just enjoy a bit on the side, or she could be looking for a new husband. I can't call it.

Suzy, I have read many of Janet Evanovich's books and I enjoyed them. Besides liking long books, I also like series books like those I do hope you enjoy the ones you gound at your library.

Anybody read "The Clam of the Bears" series? Bong books each and about 6 or 7 of them. I had to tell AL what was happening every night, or when we traveled in the car. He was working long hours and did not have the time I did to read.

Bed time here, so sending hugs till tomorrow.

Off to get Alie from school. It's the first performance of the school musical tonight - first time they've done one in 7 years! It's on for 3 nights and there is a matinee too, that one for Primary School kids. I wonder if they did that today as a rehearsal for tonight? Alie didn't even know they were doing one???!!!

This is great, and we touched on this during my course. The whole system needs to change to really apply this, but it would have been nice to see more about how it could be applied within the current system - that is, how does it affect me as a teacher NOW.

Morning all. Coffee is ready, pour yourself a cup.
Suzy, you will do fine, even teaching agriculture. Just remember you are smarter than the kids. I have read a few of the Janet Evanovich books. I am assuming you are talking about the Plum series. They were good just have not had time to get more. Hope Alie has a good time doing the musical.
Broni, hope the stress ends soon. Come in here and vent anytime you want. We have lots of shoulders for you to lean on.

Don't remember much else that I read. I will try to stop back this afternoon. I am taking 5 boys to the movies today to see Kung Fu Panda 2. There is a theater by my house that is $1 on Tuesday. It should be an interesting experience.

Hi all! Suzy, I should have made myself clearer about the cruise control (last page - that's what I get for taking all day to read these pages properly). The actual function goes off on braking but in my car, the little light stays on the dashboard until the switch is flicked back or the ignition turned off. Since I don't know what I have hit to turn it on, I have no idea how to turn it off while driving.
I just have to tell myself -

Morning friends, Just in from watering my pots of flowers. I think I said before, I did less pots this year, but it was just the right amount!

Cooler, relatively, out this morning. I need to buy more 'skitter repellent, so I can stay out in the cooler parts of the days. Unfortunately, the mosquitoes like to come out then. Would love a coffee on the porch.

Has anyone tried those OFF brand mosquito repellent that is a clip on? It seems to have a solid jel of the repellent, and a tiny fan, blows a bubble of repellent around you without having to lather up with stuff.

SUZY, how could you read the first of the "Clan" books and not hunt out the others? I have bought a few of them at library sale, when I find them for $1, and have reread at least one of them. I do not care if this is fiction, I like to believe there were many people throughout history who learned new things, then willingly taught others, for the betterment of humanity.

Cyn, I sort of figured that was what you meant, would be a major malfunction if you could not disengage the cruise control by touching the brake. On our cruise control, there is a button you hold in while you take foot off the accelerator. I think button is on the end of the "stem" that clicks up and down for wipers.I would like the beep beep! thingy that reminded me if I was going to fast, it can creep up on me. The 40 MPH road to town, I travel about 50 in the green van, MY vehicle, while it is rural road. I follow the limit once I get to civilization again. It is the white van, Al's that really gets me in trouble!

Ever had a car that just "likes" a certain speed? It seems to handle better, run better, at a speed. I have had several, and even with tires balanced, aligned and everything in top running order, the car just seemed to purr at it's chosen speed, and would seek that speed almost by itself.

BRONI, I hope the stress subsides quickly. Have some good stress relievers on hand? A nice walk, cup of tea or something, a deep cleansing breath, relaxation and meditation exercises, a soak in a tub?

TAMI, hope the boys enjoy the movies. I think having $1 movie matinees in the summer is brilliant! School age kids need to be entertained, keeps them out of mischief. I do hope this goes well, you are brave to take out 5 young men. But you have skills, you may have to bring out your "teacher" voice hehehe.

YEAH ALLIE, hope the musical goes well all performances. Sending good wishes for them all. SUZY, YEAH teach, you will be fine. If they ask questions you cannot answer, it is time to teach them how to look for answers on their own. One of my cousins did that. She was a terrible speller (dyslexia runs in my extended family), and did sub teaching for a bit. Student asked her how to spell a work, they got out the dictionary. HER spelling improved too!

Sorry if I missed anyone, morning meds kicking in, and my fingers are not answering the call to type. I T

Thunder , lightning and rain today. It isn't cold but really wet, don't have to water the pots today they are getting a good soaking naturally.
Have had an expensive morning... the car is now paid for and the insurance is sorted. Had a nice surprise from the insurance company. I am transferring my current insurance to the new car but they are giving me 7 days insurance on the old car for free just in case something goes wrong on Saturday when we will be picking the car up. It is too far away to go midweek, though I am very impatient and want it now.

That IS nice of the insurance company, Brenda. Someone in charge has some common sense and realizes that delays can happen out of your control, and you shouldn't suffer for 'em.

The night with Hollie was NOT fun. The thunderstorm didn't end until 5 am, and she was out of control the whole time. I wouldn't let her back on the bed after I cleaned up her mess, and we struggled over it 'til 5 am. She got revenge by pooping on the bedroom floor several times. Once the storm ended, she fell asleep. It's supposed to storm again tonight. Oh, joy!

Poor Holly and poor you Heidi, it's bad enough that you have to deal with her through t storms but to have to clear up poop indoors too.
Not sure how our dogs are dealing with the thunder. Elaine (my daughter) has bought a kennel and run for them at school so she can take them with her on the nights she goes to agility training, this will save her 60 miles travel a week. This will be their first time in the kennel whilst we are having thunder storms. It doesn't normally bother them at home, so fingers crossed they are ok.

thought for today:

Everlasting friends can go long periods of time without speaking and never question the friendship. These friends pick up like they just spoke yesterday, regardless of how long it has been or how far away they live, and they don't hold grudges. They understand that life is busy, and, you will ALWAYS love them.

Heidi, have you thought of diapering her? I think you could make a reasonable facimili of a doggie diaper from a large todderler diaper. I have been thinking about it. You can get some diapers locally fore the next storm. I would cut a slit in the FRONT part of the diaper to accomicate her tail. This would give a larger back part of the diaper to absorb down under.

I would make a home made "tab" like on the diapers, using packing tape and an old credit card.l roll out the tape on the credit card, this is the "tab" part. then continue to roll out a long section, attaching it to one side of the slit, cross ways. put the diaper on, sliding the slit up under her tail, . tape the home made tab. then pull up the diaper from under her and attach the back to front with tabs.

I had a friend that put her husbands old jockey shorts on her dogs when in heat to keep the drip, and diapers she made when they had tummy problems.

Just my idea, hope I have thought it through well enough to work. ANYTHING to keep the floor and bed clean!

Miz T. They sell doggie diapers but they are usually for females in heat. The diaper could be a good idea. Might need to use a small adult diaper, depending on how big Hollie is.

Broni, of course you can come to the movie with me.

The theater we are going to is small by today's standards. Only 5 screens and it does not play new releases. It is $3 a day, or $1 on Tuesday's. It is located near a huge retirement area so Tuesday's are usually packed. I am hoping the 4:00 show will be less crowded, all the "old people" will be at restaurants for the "early bird" special

Hollie does go outside to relieve herself, and with a dog door, she goes out when she feels like she needs to. She only loses control during storms. A diaper would prevent her from doing her thing if I wasn't around. And Collies are modest. They don't like people to watch. Even tho' they like to watch me in the bathroom.
