Good afternoon, Mama. It's a coolish day here - perfect autumn sweater weather. Or perfect napping weather!!!

My injection site is pretty well healed and most of the bruising is gone. I have a doctor's appointment on Wednesday and more fasting blood work on Monday. I am starting to feel like a pin cushion!!!

Morning folks, a cool start to the day today. I was right, Al was cold overnight, he said. His blanket got wet last night, the moist air tubing had water in it, and he used a quilt instead of his polar tech blanket. Probably why. I did turn on the heat just one cycle to take the chill off this morning. I put on sweat pants and jacket today, but jacket got to warm. I need a long sleeved shirt instead.

Mama, Teresa, good to see you both this morning and thanks to both for doing the TOPP post. I checked in earlier and left again, did not have a good quote, and too sleepy to look one up.

Hugs to each of you, with extras.

The parade is over. The good news is that nobody was injured. Otherwise it was a disaster of biblical proportions. My nice new harness did not survive. He even snapped the hames (the metal pieces that fit on the leather collar for pulling). This is a horse that I've driven all over the place through heavy traffic (including a funeral procession 2 days ago). He threw one tantrum after another, and reared and bucked every time we had to stop or start (every 10 to 15 feet). I had a bunch of pieces of leather with me in case, and I had to do a bunch of emergency splices.
I had a feeling it was going to be a bad day when I was getting ready to catch Challenger, only to discover that we had a loose heifer heading for the road. I had to get her caught and back in with the herd before I did anything else.

Oh Heidi, after all your preparations for this day.
Was there large crowds along the route, who maybe scared Challenger?

Heidi, so sorry that the parade turned out as it did. I was glad to hear no one was injured. How about you, did you hurt your back trying to control him?

Heidi, sorry to hear about the parade. I was hoping that it would be a good day, but was not to be. I am really glad that no one got hurt.

Challenger was acting up a little before we left for the parade. I do think the noise bothered him. It bothered me, especially when the fire engines started howling.

We did make it through the parade, and a lot of people oohed and aahed Challenger. He's a flamboyant horse.

Heidi, I'm glad you both made it through at least! Wonderful news about GH and hubby. They are also hoping to be here in November for the Chrissy gathering.

Tami :)

Daylight savings!!! That explains everything!

Whew, I just looked, and we do not loose daylight savings time till November 6. I was thinking it might be sooner since the Aussies were changing already.

Not much going on here, I am just draggy. I do hope finishing the antibiotics in 2 days helps, but that is right before the endoscopy/colonoscopy and anesthesia, I might get back to normal someday. Anyone want to do the prep for me?

Heidi, hope you enjoy the visit with grasshopper and hubby. I remember you enjoyed their visit before.

Time for bed here, see you again tomorrow. Hugs to each of you with extras.

It's a quarter past midnight in Illinois! Good Evening, Everyone!

This is just a quick post, as I'm too tired to read & comment. (That's the reason there hasn't been a comment about Ireland yet - just too tired to think and get my thoughts on paper. I'll try to get to it this coming week!

Suzy, what are the results of the band competition so far?

Heidi, I hope the weather was as beautiful in Kentucky as in my home town! How was the parade?

We got up EARLY this morning to get to my youngest brother's place, then headed to our hometown (about 2.5 hours drive) for a cemetery walk. Another brother joined us about half-way through, then a sister, her daughter, followed by my other sister & her husband as we neared the end. We knew where some of the grave sites were and had approximate locations for others. Then we met an aunt in her mid-80's and went for a late lunch and some of her reminiscing, which helped fill in some gaps. Only our oldest brother wasn't able to join us - and this was all organized since about 5:00 yesterday afternoon, when I asked my youngest brother who just turned 51 if he had plans for the weekend.

Tami, congrats to our nephew for passing his bar exam! What an accomplishment!

I need to head off to bed for now. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, , positive thoughts and prayers for all! Good Night!

Afternoon all,
Great topps, both of them!

Theresa, as long as bodily fluids don't start leaking out of all the holes...

Heidi, all that preparation and you couldn't prepare for blaring fire engines. Who would have thought? I'm glad it worked out okay though.

Wow, visitors all round. Excuse me while I turn green...

Tami, congrats to your nephew! That's a major achievement.

The band competition - we knew the girls hadn't made it through very quickly, a lot more quickly than the judges apparently! They took forever and ever to come back with the results!!

Alie just threw a teenage tanty and asked me to remove all the photos of her off facebook except for the most recent ones. I figure that she doesn't like her hairstyle in the early photos since they didn't bother her at the time, so I hid them all from her. As far as she can tell I took all the photos off, but I kept them on. Sort of feel guilty, but not really...

Everyone!

Great TOPPS from both Theresa and Mamacita on this page!

Theresa, I hope the fasting blood work on Monday and the doctor appointment on Wednesday go well!

MizT, is the cooler weather welcome - or too much of a nuisance for Al (and you, until you find your clothes for cooler weather)?

Tami, I hope your birthday was wonderful and you were spoiled by the Beasties and hubby!

Heidi, what a shame that all of the noise and hubbub set off Challenger. That's just too much extra work for you (on top of the extra work of corralling the loose heifer earlier in the morning). Thank goodness no one was injured! I hope you can rest today and think back on any good parts of the parade! Take care of yourself, young lady! What wonderful news that Grasshopper and hubby will be visiting you next weekend!

MizT, I truly hope the endoscopy/colonoscopy goes well and don't envy you the prep! (I think that's the worst part, at least so far in my experience).

Suzy, I hope the girls weren't too disappointed that they didn't go through to the next level of competition! It must be difficult to judge such diverse groups! I'll need to look on that other site for photos.

Heidi, I'd love to join you for the trip to the local apple orchard. (There aren't any local apple orchards in my area any more; all have closed over the last 10 or 15 years.)

Mama, love your last comment. Life is good!

And now, drumroll, the Ireland trip! (Warning: this could be long and convoluted.)

We arrived in Dublin (kind of mid-east when you look at a map), had a 4.5-5 hour drive to Killarney in the southwest of Ireland. It was broken up with a visit to a small town to see authentic cottages with thatched roofs, bite to eat, and the ineveitable gift shop. We didn't spend all of the trip on reduced-access multi-lane highways, so got to see some of the countryside and smaller towns, including the little village Barack Obama visited this spring. (Apparently there are some relatives there.)

We had 3 nights in Killarney, a very nice city of about 50,000 to 100,000 (sorry, I can't remember). We had day trips from there, including the Dingle Peninsula (north of the Ring of Kerry and possibly more beautiful area). From Killarney we moved east and stayed at a manor house/hotel/golf course called Dundrum House, dating back to the mid-1700's (updates, of course). We did some day trips from there and were allowed to go to the 9-hole putting green for a "mini-tournament" so we could all say we played golf in Ireland. We then drove back to Dublin for 4 nights and some more day trips, including a full day on our own. One of the highlights was Trinity College and the Book of Kells. We visited several castles, including Blarney, Kilkenny and the Rock of Cashel. As we were telling my youngest brother (who has been to Ireland) about our trip yesterday, we were amazed at how much we remembered of the information various guides t
