I banded baby lovebirds this morning. There are 2 in one nest, a normal green like mom and a blue pied like dad. In another box are 3 babies... second generation born here!!! There are 2 normal green pieds and 1 normal green. Their parents are a normal green male and a lutino female who was born here nearly a year ago.

The blue pied has a lot more yellow on it than the one pictured. At first glance, I thought it was a lutino like mom.

Apparently, mom carries the pied gene. The lutino coloring hides it completely.

Good morning. Thanks Julie, you certainly had a good trip in Ireland. I take it that you were on an organised tour. We drove ourselves around. We missed the National Stud Farm, although we had been told it was worth seeing. So much to do in so little time!
Yes lamb is expensive here now. Local supermarket special this week has lamb mid loin chops for $15.99 (Save $9). I did not buy any!. I generally go to a wholesale butcher and sometimes he has the cutlets 2Kilo for $40 (normally $24Kilo)
Bananas are still $10 or more but are coming down. Expensive because we could not import (bring in diseases) after the storms etc. destroyed crops
Mamacita, food and clothes are more expensive here than US.
Having lunch with Belinda and Laura. I will bring Laura back here and tomorrow we will go to Newcastle by train and stay the night near the beach with my sister and her two grand daughters. (2 hours away)

Heidi, your sun room must sound wonderful!!

I have a doctor's appointment on Wednesday and the results from the blood tests should be in by then. I imagine then we shall figure out what tests are necessary to determine why the wonky results every time I have an ECG. I am sick and tired of medical appointments. I still have to go for x-rays to find out why my right arm and shoulder are so sore - I had put that on hold when I thought I had heart problems, BUT THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH MY HEART (tee hee). Sorry for shouting Suzy, hope you don't have a headache.

Hi June, glad you are getting to spend some time with Laura.

I don't know the prices for lamb here - I've never eaten it. Our banana prices are very reasonable, 59 to 69 cents per kilo.

Heidi, love your Liriodendron avatar!
Theresa, hope you are now fed and that the blood work gets you some results.
Susie, how are you enjoying the school holidays. I just wish the weather was a bit warmer.
Ken got the lawns cut yesterday and I have been catching up with some ironing and other jobs that have been neglected for months.

I'm not getting my work done today. I'm spending too much time in the sun room watching the birds. I just rotated some toys for the lovebirds and budgies (to keep them from getting bored) and gave them fresh egg food for feeding their babies. The finches are ecstatic over their new home and there's lots of new pairing up and nesting activity. Even the canaries are happier because they have much more room to themselves (4 of them in a cage 36 inches by 18 inches by 60 inches.)

Bananas are still expensive here but I couldn't tell you how much they are because I have bypassed them for so long!

Brenda, hubby has just had some books delivered from Amazon.

I got a message on my phone on Sunday evening from Beth saying she had had a fever for two days and could I come and look after her! I sent back that I couldn't come as Dad was on the machine, but told her to do all the things I would do if I was there. She didn't have any paracetomol in the house, so it looks like I may have to make up a care package for her :(
She said she hadn't been able to sleep for a couple of nights and everything hurt, poor bugger, so I told her it sounded like flu. She was going to try having another bath. Was very happy to hear next morning that the fever had broken and she only had a sore throat left, which she was more than happy to live with! We both agreed that fevers suck big time.
The drawback of moving out, no more hot and cold running Mum!

Gail, sorry you can't go and take care of Beth. I am sure she will get better but it is always better when you have someone to look after you.

I got out of jury duty after spending most of the day there. I was called into a jury pool at appx 11:00 am. We went in and they started questioning us. After lunch the finished the questioning and had us wait in the hall. We went back in around 3:30 and they pulled 7 people to serve on the jury. The rest of us were told to "have a nice day"

Went with hubby to doctor for finger today. He really did a job on it. It is a bad fracture, and not something that could be operated on easily. He will be splinted for 3 more weeks and then go for a follow up.

Afternoon friends. Not sure why I have been absent today, just dragging here. I had a 3 hour nap, could go back to sleep. Doing only the basic necessities at the moment. I was surprised to find the computer had not been turned on today. Biggest accomplishment ws to go to pharmacy to get the prep for test, must do that tomorrow.

Joy is on the way down here, hope she gets here before dark, we need to cut weeks up to door of storage building. Although it has turned warmer today, I will need to get my fall and winter clothes.

I read, prices of lamb were shocking. I have no idea here as I do not buy it. I have never had lamb in my life. Bananas are 69Cents a pound, and that is double just a few years ago. I would wait for the sale, and get them at 33 cents a pound!

Broni, glad you have moved out of your bad patch, whatever the cause. Hope all is smoothe sailing for you now.

Must get dinner together, I can mention it cause I do not have to kooc, it is planned overs for us tonight.

Hugs to each of you, with extras. Till tomorrow.

MizT, hubby had never had lamb until he met Aussies (he was 34), converted after his first baked dinner! We have lamb whenever the budget says we can, which is not as often as I'd like.

Tami, glad you didn't get on a jury. I think juries are punishment for innocent people - you get to live with the horrors you hear forever although you've done nothing wrong. I hope the splint works on hubby's finger...

June, school holidays have been fairly quiet. Alie was exhausted at the beginning and so has spent time just catching up with herself - apart from the 2 gigs in Wollongong with Forever Archie - and preparing for the gf this Thursday, and the eisteddfod Friday, Saturday. She did get to see her bf yesterday.

I haven't done anything yet today. Time to get my finger out (as the expression goes)...

Morning all - well it's still just morning here but not in the Southern states.
Interesting to read all the comments on lamb - I think it's the definitive Aussie meat - we used to have an ad on telly (Naomi Watts before she made the big time in Hollywood) turning down a date with Tom Cruise (this was before he married her best friend Nicole Kidman) because her Mum was doing a lamb roast for dinner!! We all understood that concept completely.

Gail - I can understand your daughter wanting her Mummy when she was sick. I always wanted mine and I notice that Karin will often ring me up if she's sick - must be a comfort thing. I do what I can for her and when her kids were babies I would go and lend a hand.

Hi all! I'm alive but nothing much is happening worth discussing.

Tami I'm sorry I missed your special day and I hope you really enjoyed it.

#2 went back to work on Monday. His boss took one look at his arm and sent him home with a "come back on Wednesday". He has been having so asked hubby to find out at his physio visit. They gave him the name of a specialist physio but he can't get in there until next week. He went to visit the local physio who has told him to take this week off as well. His boss agreed as you need 2 working hands to be a carpenter.
Silly boy! When do 22 year old males grow brains? I really hope it's soon.

We come to the end of a lovely fall day here in Alabama. It was nice and warm today, and cool and breezy tonight. Good sleeping weather, I shall need my blankie.

Joy was down, we did get my clothes from the storage building. the battery yoperated weed eater managed to get a small swath to the door and cleared the steep of a bush that was blocking progress. She brought in 4 bags of things, and took 3 bags of things out.

Good night friends, am not looking forward to the prep tomorrow. I bought lemonade, and apple juice and green jello. Have not figured why it is clear liquids BEFORE the prep, but will do as instructions say.

Hugs to each of you, with extras all around. Till tomorrow.

Good Evening, Fellow Sudokuaholics! I hope all of you have had or are having a good - no, make that GREAT - day!

I'm finding the discussion of prices quite educational! I don't remember EVER having lamb as I was growing up - lived in a small town of about 4800-5000, which was the biggest town in the county. I don't think either of our 2 grocery stores carried lamb. I had it for the first time my first year out of college, the second time about 8 or 10 years ago at a wedding reception, and most recently on our Ireland trip. (So I have NO idea of prices in our stores, which doesn't stop me from being appalled at the prices charged in Australia.) Banana prices are also prohibitive for you; our prices are about what Mama reported. Hubby is supposed to have a banana every day with some of his medications; I wonder if the price could be deducted on taxes, as it is "prescribed" by the doctor. We never thought of that here, as prices are "reasonable," but I can't imagine what we'd do if we lived in Australia.

Broni, I'm so glad to hear that you have made it past the rough patch. I understand your indecision about working full time, but also understand how a few extra dollars can make an impact on your life. I know you'll make the right decision when BRUCE calls!

Cyn, what's the verdict on hubby's shoulder? Sure hope it's something not too serious and the pain will soon dissipate!

Brenda, congrats on selling the car on eBay - and receiving a better price than expected! I hope Rolanda has the same experience with S's car!

Theresa, I hope the results from the blood tests are good! Keep us posted, please.

Heidi, will IH find a way to ship lamb to Australia? (At least the shipping would make the high prices more understandable.)

Heidi, I loved your TOPP about banding the lovebirds! I think it's one of the most colorful TOPPs we've had - and enjoyable because we're so interested in your birds!

June, yes, the Ireland trip was a planned tour (sponsored by the alumni association of the college we attended). This was the second time we have traveled with them - both times only about 18 people, which makes for a great group. I think every other couple had traveled 3 or more times with them; one couple had traveled about 20 times with them. Apparently they have been sponsoring trips since the mid-80's. We've only been aware of them for about 4 years. Trips are usually well-planned and reasonably priced.

June, I hope you and Laura enjoy lunch with Belinda. Have fun on the train trip to Newcastle and overnight stay near the beach with your sister and her two grand daughters.

Theresa, I hope the doctor appointment yields acceptable results. Then I hope you will be able to find the cause for the sore arm and shoulder. I'm SO glad there is nothing wrong with your heart!

Heidi, Mama is SO right! You deserve a relaxing day to enjoy the birds! I'm so glad you're getting a chance to watch them enjoy their new habitats!

Gail, I'm so glad to hear that Beth is feeling better! We've been hearing (barely) from the newly married D who has had bronchitis, laryngitis, sinus infection and who knows what else. I HATE when that happens and she's 1200 miles away - not that I could do anything other than maybe run to the store to buy some fresh food and whatever else she needs. Yes, she has a husband, and he was equally sick. Loved your comment about "hot and cold running Mum/Mom."

Tami, I'm glad you weren't seated on a jury and could go with hubby to his doctor appointment! Wow, so sorry to hear how serious the break is. I hope he'll follow doctor's orders about splinting and care!

Vicki, I hope S#2's arm improves quickly! Of course, at 22, he is irreplaceable, as were most of us at that age! BTW green grapes were on sale today for 99 cents per pound here. I hope they will be priced as reasonably for you!

Viv, I hope tomorrow will be sunny and bright in your neck of the woods!

MizT, I'm so glad you and Joy could cut the weeds down and get out to the storage building for your cool weather attire! I think the "clear liquids" before the prep is to have less "darker material" to flush out during the prep. I hope the day goes well!

vdV, great for the first draft of the paper! I'm assuming "the painfully large writing job" refers to your dissertation. I left a couple of suggestions on that other page. You CAN do it!

Julie - verdict on hubby's shoulder is that the joint has gone 'fibrous' probably from years of hard physical work. He's on strong painkillers and cortisone tablets (3 per day for 3 days, 2 per day for 3 days, 1 per day for 3 days) - if that doesn't work he'll have to get cortisone injections into the joint. Sounds painful but I hope something can be done to ease it - some nights he's nearly in tears from the pain if he moves it the wrong way.

Back from town. I had to go to the nearest Greyhound bus station to pick up a corner cupboard I bought on eBay. It's beautiful.. amish made and painted. I ran a few other errands as long as I was there. Be proud of me. I didn't buy any birds. I'm on the market for another lutino budgie (to replace the one Mandy ate) but nobody had any. I saw some pretty finches, but they didn't look like they were in perfect health. I don't want to introduce any diseases here.
