Hi everyone!
I've been thinking of you all and want to send lots of hugs.

MizT, I marvel at your strength. I can't believe how well you seem to be coping with all this but as they say being forwarned is being forarmed.

Rolanda, I've been thinking of you and your Mum -by god she's a stubborn one isn't she!

Suzy, what can I say.... Dana, nits and a baby on the way....oh dear, if she can't look after herself then what hope is there for the baby. I scratched my head after I read that story.

Sorry I haven't been here for a couple of weeks, I've had a few busy weeks and also been sick. I have a hacking cough that hasn't shifted in a week so I'm off to the docs tomorrow to have it checked out.
I had the day off work for Kevin's birthday yesterday and we took MIL out to lunch. Somehow the day turned out to be about her and not the fact that it was his birthday. We came home, flaked on the bed for an hour or two and then went out to dinner with the boys.

Gail, sorry but I won't make the Melbourne Christmas party. I'm going to visit my sister instead. I must contact Amelia and tell her we're heading her way again.
Sis's birthday is the 19th and Mum's is the 23rd so she's flying down on the 17th and hubby and I are driving. We'll stay a week and then head home before picking Mum up at the airport and taking her home.
What have I done? A week with my mother in November followed by 2 weeks at the beach over Christmas! So long as she doesn't talk politics the whole time I may just cope.

Good evening friends. Getting kind of late here tonight. Joy was here, got big hugs and snuggles with her dad.

That dern elephant is back, consider yourself warned.

More things are falling into place. Al's brother has asked for the cat once I am ready to move from here. they have become great buddies lately. Joy had asked me if she could have her father's money clip as a momento. I saw no problem with that, asked Al about it and tonight he gave it to her. so much more meaningful for Dad to give it now. Al also gave his brother thier father's pocket knife. Hubby has carried it since his father died, even though it is barely legal, long enough blades. Al told his brother it was time to let go. the Chaplin came again, and agreed to speak at the funeral, because the minister Al wanted, a long time friend, has health problems and might be able to come or might not. During conversation with chaplin today, Al said "It will not be long now". Patients often know, but i do hope it is longer than he thinks. A few things today made me cry, but it is OK to shed tears, it is a sad time.

I did read, but mind did not hold thoughts tonight, Maybe cause of the lateness of the hour? Hugs to each of you, with extras. Till tomorrow, no wait, it IS tomorrow already, just past midnight

It is a very sad time but I'm so glad Al is able to tie up loose ends and get visits from family and friends etc. It will give you peace of mind later that he could do that.
One more important thing I meant to tell Joy is the overriding reason why I did my part of the eulogies for my parents is that I wanted to say those things and not just listen to somebody else read them out. They were my thoughts and my words.

Welcome back Vicki, I wondered where you had been the other day.
Rolanda - I got called up for jury duty once. Twice I went through the whole process of getting into the courts in the city - a long process from here on public transport - and twice got knocked back on panel selection. One was armed robbery and I can't remember what the other was, but not murder, maybe assault. Both times I was relieved because the defendants looked scary as.

I was so proud to be able to read my part of the family eulogy for Mum, even though I hate public speaking I just kept it in my mind that I was doing this for her.
I was just thinking, I will have to do it again for Bill when his time comes, I am his only child.

Life seems to be getting in the way here, I am reading everything but haven't commented much lately. I would love this year to end, we have had enough sorrow here to last a lifetime. My heart goes out to all my friends who are and have suffered loss/illness/pain etc. and you are all even though we have never met in person.

Back home. I did get the ceiling of the laundry painted this morning. I can now do the walls when I go to her place next time. I did have a bit of trouble getting up and even more so down the steps on the small ladder. I was very stiff when I got home after sitting in the car for 1 1/2 hours. I think an early night will be in order tonight.

Tricia, I am so glad you can come here and talk about what is happening with you and Al. I found it such a comfort to be able to do so, and at the same time read what is happening in the other peoples lives.
Because Sharon was a member I was a bit restricted as she did not want me to say too much at some of the earlier stages.
By talking about things I think we are also able to draw strength from those around us. As they say it never helps to bottle things up.

I have a rotten potato in the bottom of my pantry somewhere. I can smell it but cannot find it. At the moment I do not feel like getting on my knees to take everything out of the bottom of the pantry! I think I will close the door and do it in the morning!

Evening all,
Gail, I'm missing the Xmas party too (don't lecture me or I might cry). Combination of not getting called in to work and a 'thing' for Don's work.

MizT, I hope you are right about Al being wrong about how much longer you will have him around. It is good to get everything organised while it is all still theoretical and it is easier to think. I wish one of us lived closer to you so there could be a real SA person nearby... Hugs and wishes traveling across the airwaves to you..

Rolanda, I don't envy your son being on a criminal trial jury. I was very glad to not be selected when I was called up.

June, I wish I had your oomph. I can't seem to get motivated to move at the moment. I'll have to get something done tomorrow as a friend of Alie's is coming over on Saturday. Should happen more often so I get more done.

Morning all. Coffee is ready, help yourself.

June or Gail, which is worse: rotten potato or skunk?

Dylan did a pretty good job of pitching. He was able to strike out 2 boys but does not have the best control, yet. He has a powerful throw, but lacks the control needed. He is working on it.

Today should be a quiet day, tomorrow will be busy.

Good thoughts and vibes going out to all who need them.

Tami, skunk hands down!

Dylan sounds like a good pitcher who just needs practice/experience. I hate to say 'natural' because all good players are that way because they practice.

My favourite pitching story. Dana was one of those players who could have been a good pitcher with some good coaching and practice. The hall of famer said so. But she was never very good at it. One day she was playing on the under 16s team, mostly guys. One of the guys on the other team was a state rep. Full of himself. He was overheard (by Dana) saying to his team mates that girls shouldn't be allowed to play. By coincidence he was next up to bat, also by coincidence as Dana was the only one on her team who heard, she was sent in to pitch. 4 strikes he was out!!! It was beautiful!

Tami I don't have your number but still have you on SKYPE. I hope you are getting the weather sorted out over there. I do not want rain all the time, which is what we have had for all our holidays in the UK this year.
Suzy, June makes me tired just reading all the things she does for others. I was doing all that sort of thing FOR my mother when she was younger than June is. (My mother went into a nursing home at the age of 70 so I didn't have to do much heavy work for her) I'm the same as you with motivation to getting the swearing done. If someone is coming everything gets done, my house is fairly tidy at the moment as I had friends over last Saturday.

I agree skunk smells a lot worse than rotten vegetables. I've only smelled it a couple of times on the road after tone has been hit by a car hours before.

I've just got back from taking our little red car for it's first service. I was told it would take an hour and a half so it would be ok to wait, two and a half hours later and it was ready. I took my knitting with me and knitted a tea cosy while I waited. Baby knitting is on hold until I get back from holiday.

I've gotten so used to skunk that there are other smalls I like less. It's just that skunk is stronger.

MizT... I can't believe how quickly this has happened to Al. I bet you can't either. I plan on being there for the visitation (if you have one) and the funeral. Could you send me directions how to get there? I just wish this could be under happier circumstances.

I just lucked out. I found 66 rolls of hay for sale nearby, and bought them. They will make the difference in getting through the winter. Now I won't have to sell off a bunch of cows.

Hi All,
While the sun shines brightly here, my mood is rather gray after reading todays news. I have been sure to check every night to keep an eye on Tricia and Al...sorta blanket covering and relishing the calm, beauty of their interactions. I don't want them to end, yet know that they must...today, with Al's comment, it seems he has found that he has done his work and is just about ready to choose his rest. It saddens me greatly, yet I am bursting with joy that he has been able to do this with Tricia's help...that I find simply wonderful.... May his flight be as he wishes and the landing gentle!!!

Heidi....you are a special person and I'm glad to count you as a friend...because you have shown what a friend is. I do hope your health holds so that you can be as painfree as possible for a good while. Glad you found some hay too that will help make life easier for the year end supplies.

Cyn and Gail, you both have sent Joy such great help in how to approach the task at hand, but more importantly, you both have added to the knowledge of how helping others and reaching beyound one's comfort zone only makes one stronger and helps them to feel better about themselves...those of you who think you couldn't do what we have watched the amazing folks on this thread do are wrong.... you have been shown the way and I have no doubt you'd be up to the task... someone, Suzy , I believe commented on the remarkable folks who are in this group....I can only concur!!!♥♥

Oh, and to me, while rotten veggies are bad...I'd rather have that to clean and air out then the skunk smell...that seems to linger for much too long....
May we rejoice in this day and be glad in it. We are given hard times as a way of becoming stronger and more appreciative of the good things that always come our way if we but look.
Walk with love in your heart and peace will follow.

Heidi, I also thought of you possibly driving down to Tricia. I just looked up the distance and for me it would be a 12 hour drive. Don't think I will be able to do that, with school and the kids, and all.
