Wow, what a bomb to drop on us, Viv. It sounds scary, but I'm SO glad that they've found the problem and have a solution. I've heard from others that have had knee replacements, and they all wish that they'd done it sooner.... the results are so good. I'm also glad that they aren't delaying the surgery too much. Two weeks sounds about right for scheduling an operating room, and fitting it in to the surgeon's schedule.

Did I not visit or comment at all yesterday? All the posts after mine on page 429 are new to me.

Long hard day yesterday. I left at 10 am, home at 7, and part of the day I did not even have a chair to sit and rest! I had asked that Joy's desk chair not be loaded till last, it was my comfy chair at her house and movers could accommodate, but somehow one of the guys took it up early anyway. Close to the end I had to go to the car, idle and turn on AC and sit there. GOOD cooling system in the Kia, it idled in outside temps of mid 90's with feels like temp near 100, cooled the car and the heat gauge stayed steady as a rock, no hint of overheating. A real test of the system and it passed.

I was exhausted and hurting badly by time I got home, a hurt that pain meds did not help for a long time. I did the voltaren rub, and that did help and was able to go to sleep. It was really my fault, knew it in the middle of doing it. I picked up a box on the Kitchen counter and moved it to the pantry, to unpack it. It contained canned goods, and was really too heavy. Back went into spasm, and I had nothing to help in purse. today I am sore and tired and achie all combined, but totally worth it! I love Joy's house, the only thing that bothers me at all is the dining room. it is dark, no windows. Happens in a town house, with the shared walls, something is gonna be windowless. they did put in a beautiful tray ceiling and a lovely chandelier, with lots of light, that helps. I think she needs mirrors on the wall so light from Kitchen bounces around. We will see. OH, just found a mirror I have had stored forever, since I moved into the mobile home 17 years ago? I will take it, next I go, she can use it somewhere.

Been out to water my flowers fore it gets any hotter. Humidity is climbing today, but it could be worse.

I will try to check in again later and start comments. Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Have to tell everyone the conversation I had with my parents today.

Called my mom and asked them to come tonight for dinner. She asked why and I answered, why not. She said let me ask dad. I said just put dad on. Dad picks up and I tell him that they are coming to dinner tonight. He asks why and I reply that it is a holiday and we are going to grill. I tell him to come at 4:00. I hear my mom ask what is going on and dad tells mom that they are coming to my house and be here by 4. Problem solved. I don't ask my parents to come over, I just tell them when to be here. Saves a lot of problems.

Tami is right, Heidi, it was meant to be.

Tami, who could you possibly think would accuse sweet little innocent you of breaking the site?

The temps here are wonderful, MizT. Wish I could share them with you. Hubby installed the AC unit yesterday and I haven't turned it on yet.

I read in the news today that the young man hit by lightning has died. He was only 18. Why would anyone go out cycling in weather that was predicted to be bad? What a shame. His poor family. He was a university engineering student.

Theresa, what a shame that they took shelter under tree to put on rain gear. Perhaps there was no place to be other than under some tree?? About the why go out, young people never think it will happen to them, invincible at that age, most of them. I am so sad for his family and his friend with him. that survivors guilt can be so hard.

VIV, good luck on your surgery, do hope it goes well, I know it has been said by others, but be religious in following rehab exercises exactly not more, not less. they know what they are doing for long haul. Too much too fast can cause damage, too little will not work either. Hugs to you, and be sure to let us know couple days fore you go in. Some of us are old, or take meds that make us forgetful of time.

heidi, agree, you must have needed the sleep. I do hope you feel better for the nap. People should understand missing the meeting, knowing you had surgery. If not, their bad.

I will be cooking again in the AM or tonight if temp cools down some. House is comfortable now, but ACs struggling to keep it that way. Do not need to add heat. that is one thing I will not have to worry about when I move, plenty of cool air , can cook whenever I want.

I am picking blackberries. there are a TON out there, but most are red, only a handful a day so far are ripe, that I can reach. It is such a thicket, and ground so uneven, also they grew up around and through a wood pile, Al's scrap wood. NOT gonna step through that. I am wondering if they will ripen in larger numbers daily later, or if birds are eating so many of them? but surely they would not eat just the ones I can reach, they have a better way to get to the ones in the middle of the thicket hehehe.

I have a large list of things to take Joy tomorrow. she had help last night and today. She was up until dawn again today , so slept in. she needs fans, upstairs is major hot today. hottest day of the year so far, and the cable guy was in attic, letting hot air into house. I am taking her 3 fans that her Dad had in the shop, the mirror I found, a trash can for yard waste. city provides the one for regular trash pick up. OH and a swiffer duster and the shop va, and 4 plastic outside chairs, the big ones. she has never had a swiffer, and lets dusting go to long cause it is tedious. She needs 2 of them, one upstairs and one down. OH taking a caddy to hold cleaning supplies, deep sided plastic tray with a handle sticking up in middle, to take cleaning stuff room to room. As a friend says, OOMHIY (out of my house into yours)

This friend cannot throw away things, it is just not in her. Not even donate to charity. but she will spend money to mail things to friends, give to family. She has TONS of good junk in her basement, from years of yard sales. Pickers would have a ball in her basement, she has a lot of collectibles.

Thanks Greg.

Viv, you will definitely be in my thoughts next month. I have met several people with knee replacements and they were definitely not sorry.

MizT, our blackberries should be ready around the end of next month. The flowers have just dropped off and little white nubbies are showing.

I am making a stirfry and there will be plenty left over. I also made a double batch of rice. Now I won't have to cook for a few days.

I almost stepped on the chipmunk this morning. I was heading inside through the back door and he came charging out from under the wood pile. When he spotted me, he ran like heck, telling me off in "chipmunk" all the way. I guess he won't be my friend after all.

, Everyone! I'm here earlier than usual because we must be out of bed before 6 tomorrow a.m.

Gail, I'm so sorry that I forgot to comment last night on Chloe and Trent. What wonderful news that they arrived safely and in good time! So it's a three-day trip to their new abode? Does it take more than 25-30 hours? Is there air transportation between your 2 cities? I wish them both well in their jobs and in setting up a household! {{{{HUGS}}}} for you and hubby!

Theresa, I'm so sorry the cats decided you should get up early this morning! That's just not fair! What a shame that the tornadoes caused so much damage, including the 200-year-old church!

Suzy, has Alie decided she needs to study music in the U.S. - or a trusted teacher - or ?? I'm sure there are excellent music programs in Australia. For a bit of perspective, you could tell her that our Ds studied classical music in the U.S. Throughout high school they kept their academic grades up, which was helpful when it came time to apply for scholarships, which were based on BOTH their academics and music. I'm guessing that she shouldn't even think about studying in the U.S. without scholarships. What are her career aspirations? (Oops, is that too many questions?)

Suzy, it seems early for Tahli to be teething, unless she's like ours. They could even dent a rattle, but the first tooth erupted at least two months later. (By the way, our pediatrician always claimed that teething does not cause diaper rash, but it certainly did for our children.

Bean, I hope your busy weekend means you were able to get a lot done! Looking forward to your visit tomorrow!

Tami, does Harley often wake up your family? Theresa's cats and your dog! I hope you have had a restful day!

Hi, Viv! Counting down the days for your total knee replacement! Hoping all goes well and your recovery and rehabilitation set records!

Well I have just lost a long post... now I don't have time to rehash!!

Sorry... hello friends...:D

Have lost half the day because I was up early [dogs] and then snuggled back into bed to warm up and promptly did a 'Heidi'.. like H. I obviously needed the sleep..

Can't remember what else I had elaborated on tho I had seconded Tricia's comments to Viv.

Long comment to you Tami but who knows what it was now...

Hi Cyn.. very clever U-tube but methinks someone has far too much time on their hands..

Trying to remember the comments i didn't have time to post yesterday.. without re-reading.. I don't think it is going to happen..

A friend of Lachie's is heading over from across the pond in September [probably].. he told her that this place should be a last resort as somewhere to bed down because of the state of things.. no phone, internet, toilet in the front yard [luckily we have a spare in the laundry].. handbasin on the floor..leaking washing machine and skylight... the other day he asked if anything in this house works... Oh dear.. NOT GOOD!

I did suggest he not tell her that I had to flip the mattress in the spare room because the puppies got in there when they were young and had great fun investigating what makes up an inner spring mattress.. TOO LATE was the reply.. oh well..

Best get back to clearing out a few more boxes..

Puppies can think of so many things to get into, can't they? I had one who specialized in plumbing. He was really good at crimping pipes and cutting off water to various places. Believe it or not, he grew up to be a service dog for the handicapped. It's the bright ones that can think up so much mischief.

It was Heidi.. the antlers were also musical along with the flashing lights. The residents thought he was wonderful. He must be almost 18yo now.. we got him the year Lachie started school and the vet said he was over 12months but under 2.. wonderful little Heinze variety of a dog. I doubt he will see out another year.. but Pete said while he gets so much fun galloping around the park then he will continue cleaning up his mess.. half blind, deaf and now becoming incontinent. Poor old boy.

Heidi, you obviously needed that nap. I suspect it was better for you than going to the meeting would have been, though I know you wanted to go.

Tricia, I'm so sorry the movers packed the only comfortable chair early. You did the right thing to go out to the car and turn it on to enjoy some air conditioning! I'm glad the voltaren rub helped when your pain meds didn't! Joy's new dining room sounds lovely, if only it had a window. I think mirrors may be an excellent way to bring more light into the room!

Tami, I think you have the right approach! Sometimes it's easier to be told where you need to be and at what time than to make decisions! I hope you all had a nice dinner!

Theresa, I'm so glad the temperature is better for you. I think you may need to share it with many of us! It's good that the AC unit is installed for when you will be needing it this summer.

Prayers for the family and friend of the young man who died as a result of the lightning strike.

MizT, I hope the birds don't eat all of the ripe blackberries that are within your reach. Your list of items you're taking to Joy is quite comprehensive and things she no doubt needs! I'm sure she'll be thrilled! (I like OOMHIY, just hope our Ds don't intend to do too much of that, though I've already heard baby items mentioned as something that will be coming to our basement from one D so that they're here for the other D when the time comes. Maybe OOMHIY is only good when it's beneficial for both parties.)

Thanks for sharing the youtube, Greg.

Theresa, the stir fry sounds yummy! Too bad you nearly stepped on the chipmunk. Maybe if you explain what happened you'll still have a chance to tame him/her.

Just passing 10:30 here, so I about to get ready for bed. Thinking of all of you, even if I have forgotten to mention you or respond to a post. , prayers, positive thoughts, healing vibes and {{{{{HUGS}}}}} for all! Good Night and have a happy tomorrow!

Looks like the interruptions while I was typing let a lot of comments slip in, so I'll take a quick look.

Bean, so sorry you lost a long post.

Hmm, that's Bean, Theresa and Heidi who were awakened early by pets. I'm beginning to see a pattern. I'm glad you were able to get a nap, which was obviously necessary, Bean!

Oh, dear, seems Lachie may have provided TMI for the friend, though it's often good to have fair warning. (That's what we give to anyone planning to come to our house - fair warning. This is NOT "House Beautiful" or even "Better Homes and Gardens".)

Bean and Heidi, I think if we had a dog, I would rather have a smart one, even though they're lots more work. They keep you on your toes, it seems.

Heidi, we have some chipmunks you can have! They burrow around the foundation. We have friends whose steps leading up to their house collapsed because of all of the tunneling done by chipmunks. But they ARE cute. (And possibly intelligent? One year when I was a "housemother" for a summer music camp in Vermont, a couple of chipmunks would come out of their burrow and stand and listen to the kids practicing their violins.)

And now, I am definitely going to get ready for bed. Good Night, Everyone! Wishing you good weather and happy days in the coming week!

I will post briefly as it is time I get back to work. Hubby and I made a three column list of to dos this morning, MUST, HOPE and WISH! The must has to be done before Rolanda gets here so we will be well on schedule for the October Outlaw family gathering here, the hope list is what I would also love to have done BR (Before Rolanda), but they will be sacrificed if we run out of time but will get done before October. The third list? Well, I can dream, can't I? We can cross one thing off the first list, we know have outside lights, esp near the stairs :)
Bean, sorry love, I just don't have any spare time at the mo :(
Julie, I think it was you who asked about the travel between here and Darwin. The distance is 3800km (2400m), 44 driving hours! Yes there are flights there, but I don't think they fly direct, but that is what we will do, rather than drive!

Evening all,
Haven't been on the computer until tonight! I've read everything but now need a Julie post to remind me of what I have read. Bits I remember...

Julie, doctors need proof, nurses will make do with evidence and there is ample evidence that nappy rash and teething go together. It's all over google, and we've probably all experienced it - I know I did with my kids.

Rolanda, 15th isn't it? I should have written it on my calendar!!!

Gail, I'd be flying too and I'm probably 1000 or so km closer than you are... Mind you, I've got a couple or few hours until I can even get to an airport...

No pets woke me this morning. I had to get up early to work the coffee van again.

MizT, would benadryl have helped? I'd love some blackberries too. Unfortunately all of the ones around here have been poisoned. :(

Gail, how is your painting going? Which list is it on?

Viv, big hugs and thoughts...

SUZY, I did take a bit of benedryl, forgot to mention it. thank you very much for reminding me, so pleased you remembered

Ahhhhgg, humidity! I walked to auto to attach temp tag to back inside window. It is as cool as it is gonna get today, but humidity high, and I came in drippy.

Rolanda, hope you are well by weekend, for your long weekend trip to cottage. chair, book and cuppa is a good prescription for the lurgy. Hope Peter is all well too, no fun taking man flu on a holiday!!

Gail, I like the MUST HOPE AND WISH categories. A good way to set priorities. Good luck getting through them, but remember, people are oming to visit you, not your house! Is it is not ready to be condemned by health dept, it is fine hehehe.

house smelling good, egg plant lasagne in oven.Have to tempt Joy to eat.

BEAN, loved the dogs as mousers story. Smart dog to learn with one "payment". BTW, I am free Wednesday, no wait, that is my Tuesday, sorry, have plans, would love to drop in for a movie hehehe.

HI GREG, I must remember to go back and look at the YouTube video. did not have time when I first saw it.

Theresa, stir fry sounds good! What did you put in it? I love doing planed overs, especially in summer. Microwaving the planned overs is so much cooler than cooking.

TAMI, loved the conversation with your parents. now I never question why someone asks me to come to dinner, just need the when and where hehehe.

Theresa, so sorry to hear about tornado damage nearby. I have not heard about tornadoes in Canada before. Is it because they are rare, or because our news does not cover them?

OH SHOOT, not thinking and got my cup of coffee before my one hour after med. hope just this once will not hurt.

Gail, I understand about having daughters so far away. Two of mine are over 2,000 miles away, a 3 day drive or a long all day, 12 hour plane trip, with travel to and from airports and layovers.

OK, if I go back any further, it will be such old news, no one will remember what I am talking about hehehe. Besides, I must pack the vehicle, shower and wait for Joy to phone around lunch time. Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Glad my kitty likes to sleep in mornings, she is getting older needs her rest. that is unless I have neglected to put food in her bowl before my bedtime, for her midnight snack. she will wake me for that.

heidi, would not be easy to find you a chipmunk here, Scooter keeps them policed.

Julie, it was not the only comfortable chair that was packed away fore the end, it was the LAST chair in the house, too.
