Here are 2 quotes from Thich Nhat Hanh:

“Attention is like sunlight and water for a plant. What we pay attention to will grow.”

“Waking up this morning, I smile. Twenty-four brand new hours are before me. I vow to live fully in each moment and to look at all beings with eyes of compassion.”

Morning all. Coffee is ready, help yourself.

Julie, great quotes to start the day.

There is no formal graduation for 5th grade, it is up to the school. They are having the end-of-year awards and inviting the parents. For Mitchell's, the principal of the local middle school came and announced that "you are all my kids now." Mitchell did not go to that middle school and neither is Dylan even though it is a 2 block walk from my house. They both got into magnet programs. Dylan will be in a STEM program: Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. He is excited.

Rolanda, so nice of us to fix it after Julie broke the site. Some one would try to blame me for it.

The Sheer Nightgown....

A husband walks into David Jones to purchase a sheer negligee for his wife.
He is shown several possibilities that range from $250 to $500 in price -- the more sheer, the higher the price.
Naturally, he opts for the most sheer item, pays the $500, and takes it home.
He presents it to his wife and asks her to go upstairs, put it on, and model it for him.

Upstairs the wife thinks (she's no dummy), 'I have an idea.
It's so sheer that it might as well be nothing.
I won't put it on, but I'll do the modeling naked, return it tomorrow, and keep the $500 refund for myself.'

She appears naked on the balcony and strikes a pose.

The husband says, 'Good Grief!
You'd think for $500 they'd at least iron it!'

He never heard the shot.

Funeral on Thursday at Noon. Closed coffin.

LOVE IT, Theresa!

The thunderstorms have skimmed past us to the west, so far. I don't know how long it'll be before they decide to ease on over to us. I hope soon. If we don't get rain today, I'll have to water young trees by hand.

Is that chair for anybody who needs it, Gail? You need to be getting your beauty sleep instead of dragging chairs around in here.

The weather this afternoon calls for the possibility of severe thunderstorms with the possibility of high winds and hail. We are under a severe thunderstorm alert. Right now it is very humid ... sigh.

I believe the last day of elementary school is June 26 here, so we go quite a bit longer.

Feel better soon, Broni.

Rolanda, it must be quite exciting to see the home you planned for going up a bit more each day.

The weather has been updated to include the possibility of tornadoes. Here we go again. This is not common for us, so two warnings in the space of about a week is rare. The tornadoes include the extreme eastern part of our province - I am about 60 kilometres from the Quebec border (east of us) ... does that count as extreme eastern part? Like before, I am home alone.

BEAN, I had to learn about grief, I was same way when my father died, cause that is what he wanted. he tried to tell us how to grieve for him, or not to grieve, had told us all our lives. It did not work for me, I had major problems till I worked through them with the help of a psychologist many many years later. then when I was between husbands (oh! that sounds wicked) I had a wonderful friend who was terminally ill, a long process for him, and he taught me both how to talk with a dying person, and how to grieve. I try to help anyone having a problem, cause I know how it influenced my life.

Rain has started and it's thundering in the distance so I better shut down in a bit. Still very humid.

I saw three chipmunks this morning, two smaller than one of them ... babies I guess. It was so cute, one of the smaller ones was watching me and after about five minutes his eyes closed; I think he fell asleep. He was about six feet away from me. At least he didn't chastise me.

Okay, it's getting closer. Hope to catch you all later.

That was one nasty storm that rolled through, and there are more to come. Apparently the storm alert has been heightened to a warning and will continue all evening. The rain came down so hard that the storm drain outside our house is covered in about 6 inches of rain. The thunder and lightning were so close, almost all the cats were trying to stay near me - something they have never done before.

Here is a news piece I just heard about:

Ottawa police say they are investigating after what appeared to be a human foot was found in a suspicious package sent to the Conservative Party of Canada headquarters in Ottawa.

Hazerdous materials handlers were called to the 12th floor of 130 Albert Street after the package was found. The coroner is now en route to assist with the indentification.

The Conservative party is the party that leads this country at the moment, with Stephen Harper as the Prime Minister.

JUNE, congrats on your win, double congrats cause you are not a sports person and still won your semi final. I think you are leaving out something though, you need a water bottle to your back? Overuse at the bowling? Or is it just you got bone cold?? I forget it is winter over there.

HEIDI, we could use some rain too. Is your rain from that Tropical storm moving up the ooast? A weather system came in, turned it away back out to sea before it reached us. I wanted a bit of rain from that.

JULIE, problem is he was NOT thinking hehehe. the young man who removed my chair was the trainee, and boy did he need some training! I figured right away he was the free mover.

JULIE, yes, it is a good thing to store away in memory. Could come in handy in an energency. who if us keep a fully packed emergency kit with large wound dressing? Most households have sanitary napkins, or bladder control pads. With all the disasters, tornadoes, tsunamis, hurricanes, emergency medicine and being prepared is on my mind a lot now.

Broni, are you feeling better? Hope the tummy bug has been chased away.

TAMI, interesting to see that middle shool starts at grade 6. When my girls were going, Elementary was grades 1-6, middle was 7, 8, 9, and high school was 10, 11, 12.

JULIE, I am hoping it is a good sigh that Joy's casual date is thinking of Joy some now. that relationship has been strange for me to understand, but it is her's, not mine.

TAMI, congrats on Dylan getting into the Magnet school. STEM sounds interesting, subjects I enjoyed, well never had engineering, but the math and science were my thing. I know you are proud of both your boys. Will the boys be on the same bus? Same building? Do I remember correctly it is some distance and a long bus ride for Mitchell?

GAIL, goodonya, finishing half the big room. Is that just cleaning, sorting, rearranging and such or were there painting and other remodeling projects going on? WAS there painting? WERE there projects? so which do es one use??

I phoned my doc today, mouth is still not well, and nurse said I should go to dentist, as they had treated it so many times already. I asked if ENT or dentist would be best, she said toss up. Well, ENT is covered, only $10 co pay, so easy choice. I am going to ENT in the AM. It is almost on the way to Joy's, I can do the appointment, drive about 5 min and be at her house. I think it is about to see a specialist, I just needed to know which one.

OK, back to a few chores, get things ready to take to car in AM. I still did not finish comments, that is what happens when you get a life???

Hugs with extras, till later.

Tricia, school was similar for me. K-6 was elementary, 7-9 was Jr. High School and 10-12 was High school. The boys will not be on the same bus. Dylan was going to the middle school Mitchell went to they would have been. He found a program he liked better. He will be much closer to home. Mitchell is almost 25 miles away. Dylan is only about 5 miles away. The program he is going into did not exist for Mitchell. It is a new program.

Heidi, that is how it was for me too, no K as part of the public schools. If you wanted kindergarden for your children, you paid for private. My parents could not afford, not with 4 hildren within 5 years, stair steps.

More blackberries ripening, I picked a few, back said no more, and I was swarmed by mosquitos! I see, I can go in evening when it is in shade and cooler and be eaten, or I can get up EARLY cool of morning without them, or midday in hot hot sun. GEE, everything needs to be done in the cool of the morning.

I am off to sample the zucchini lasagna I made Sunday. I will make lunch at Joy's tomorrow. she has some leftover take out, with shrimp and lobster bites, yummy. Her friend was to take her out to eat, "we never made it" so they got take out from grocery I think.

Good morning everybody!
I haven't been here in the last few days, been busy - so I have just read through 3 pages. There's been talk of chipmunks and horses, nappy rash and teething, storms, the grieving process, school years, a human foot in a package (ewww) - along with Broni not feeling well but recovering, June winning at bowls (congrats) and Gail's to-do list BR - I'm ploughing through mine slowly and the event is fast approaching - 9 days and Rolanda will be here!!

Hi, Everyone!

Tami, thank you for fixing the site (even though I really didn't break it). It's nice that Dylan's school has an awards ceremony for the fifth graders - and nicer if you can go! Congrats to Dylan for choosing and getting into the STEM program. Science, technology, engineering and math sounds like a great focus! Is he also looking ahead to a high school program? (It's only 3 years away.)

Theresa, the sheer nightgown "story" is a keeper! Very funny!

Gail, CONGRATS! Please tell us more about what was done to get the big room half finished. Was there painting involved? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Theresa, so sorry you need to deal with storms with wind, rain, hail and possible tornados. At least you and the cats have each other to provide company while dealing with the storms! How fun that you saw more of the chipmunk's family members! I hope they got in out of the rain!

Tricia, I think you're right about grief and learning how to deal with it. I hope your encouragement will help Joy find a way to make time to get help.

Theresa, a suspicious package with a foot at Conservative Party headquarters doesn't sound good. I haven't yet heard or read anything about it.

Broni, good for you! Already feeling better and off to work today! I hope the day goes well for you!

MizT, I hope the ENT can help to provide some relief for your mouth! Hopefully your pain meds are working for everything else!

Tami, I hope the bus situation for Dylan's school will be better than Mitchell's. I can't imagine you needing to deal with 2 late buses and still get to school on time! Will there be anyone else from Dylan's class going to the STEM program?

MizT, I hope you can beat the birds to the blackberries and avoid the mosquitoes! I hope the zucchini lasagna was as good as it sounds!

Cyn, we have missed you and are pleased you were able to join us for a bit today!

Rolanda, hopefully the rental inspection went quickly and you were able to fit in everything else from your agenda!

Bean, I hope all is going well with your projects!

Will be heading to bed soon! Positive thoughts, healing vibes, prayers, {{{{{HUGS}}}}} and for everyone!

We are expecting cooler temperatures as the week progresses, and will hopefully get some rain. We had about 15 minutes of very heavy rain the other day, but it wasn't nearly enough to help out. Hubby hopes to plant some (replacement) landscaping items tomorrow. We bought 3 rosey barberry, 3 boxwood and 1 wine & roses weigela to fill in places where other shrubs aged and expired. We'd be happy to get some rain AFTER he is finished!

happy to report that the severe weather alert message system, text messages to cell phone, works nicely, just as advertised. It is good that the ring tone I selected is loud and long enough to wake me from sleep. Not so happy to report it worked at midnight, just as I was dozing off hehehe.

I am a bit like Teresa, in that I do not like severe weather at night, when I am alone. I would not like power to go off while I am sleeping. It would be scary to wake to total darkness. I could not find either of my flame-less battery operated candles, would have left it on tonight!!

It was a fast mover, storm is far south of me now, but I am wide awake with adrenaline pumping. Where do we go when we cannot sleep nights?? Of course, SUDOKULAND.

Good afternoon everyone.
Nine sleeps... wow!!
It will be so good to 'meet' you Rola .. as if I really need to.. do have a few years worth of hugs that i want to share though :D

It's raining again! Oh well...cest la vie..

Tricia grief is a complex issue. I have studied it, counselled in it.. but when it comes to personally dealing with it ... ell, you need a friend to share it with. You cannot deal with it all by yourself. What you don't let out festers and can overwhelm you.. Journalling has always helped me. There is nothing my journal doesn't understand. Bit like this special place we all share here..

Must fly...

Hi all! I'm just dropping in to let you know I'm still alive. I'm looking forward to meeting Rolanda in 9 days time.

I'm taking my mother to look at some assisted living units the day before I meet Rolanda. They are near to where I live (within 10 minutes drive) but not the same centre where MIL lives. I've told my mother that these ones are better as they have a community bus that will take the residents to nearby shopping centres. While she won't shop, she will be able to go to the bank or have a cup of coffee.
I don't actually expect that she will want to move into any of them but she has told me she's ready to move so I'm doing my bit to help.
I'm going to a baby shower on Saturday (baby is due mid July - sex unknown). I've bought some flanel wraps. I also have to collect another young friend and take her along. She is also pregnant (baby girl due late July) so I'll have to buy another present as they don't live in Brisbane anymore.
I'm quite looking forward to the day - I enjoy a good girlie chat since I work and live with men - even the dog is a male!

Have a great night all!
