Julie, we lived in Ottawa before moving to this small town. At the time I used to feed the squirrels by hand. They would come to the patio door and wait until I handed them a peanut, and then they would come back for more. I tend to talk to animals and like you say, it's almost as if they are listening. We have another black cat outside also and it won't take long for me to tame him. I can get about two feet away from him. I just don't know what to do with him when I catch him. All the rescue shelters are full up. We definitely cannot take another cat. He looks exactly like the one we brought in last, the black one named Splotch with AIDS. Perhaps they're brothers.

Tami, will you be working at summer school this year?

Tomorrow is a PD day for the girls. They are having a sleepover tonight and let's just say there's lots of screaming and squealing and running and girlish giggles coming from next door. I am off to bed, assuming that I can sleep with the noise. I don't want to spoil their fun. Catch you all tomorrow, or earlier if I can't sleep.

Oops, wasn't watching the numbers. I'm just too tired to find something inspirational, so I'll just repeat what hubby's grandma used to say. Blessed be nothing for there's no bother to it.

Theresa, it's my fault. I didn't look at the numbers and left us sitting at the bottom of the page.

Here's a quote from "Unknown":

True friends do not value you for what you can do for them – they simply value you.

Good afternoon folks. Wet, cold and miserable in Melbourne today. Don't really mind.. it decides what sort of activities I'll be doing.. definitely NOT in the garden.

Heading out to do the shopping and have decided to see if I can slot in a film.. sick of all the work I'm trying to do qaround here.. haven't seen a film all year. CANNOT believe May is almost over..

Will try and get back with a few of the comments that have sprung to mind.

Bean, so sorry about the rain, but shopping and a movie wouldn't be too bad, I'd think. Have a great day. I'm SO sorry I missed you while I was typing!

Julie, I am not sure when the 'Granta' article was written as I haven't seen it. The link I posted was the one which was done a couple of years ago.
Another lovely day here, sun shining and birds singing.

Sounds nice Rolanda. I love chicken soup.
The parade of vintage clothes was a huge success. I got so many compliments is was worth all the work.
That is the good news. Before I left I was looking for my handbag (the Burberry one I bought in Vietnam) I had it when I came home from shopping last night at about 5.30pm. When Ken got home just after 7pm he asked where his other set of keys were. Yes some b**ger had come in while I was home and taken my bag and Ken's keys. We have changed the locks, cancelled all cards, Cost me $23 for a new driver's license plus I had been to the bank before I came home as it is a grandson's birthday next week so I wanted money to spend. It was quite a big loss. I also have a lot of cards to be replaced. The remote for the house alarm was also on Ken's keys. The door was shut but not locked as Ken did not have a key with him and he then makes a big fuss about getting in.

Morning all. Coffee is ready, help yourself.

June, Glad that the parade was a success but really sorry about the break-in. It can be a real pain in the a** to replace everything. Big hugs to you and Ken. Hope things are smoother now and no more problems happen.

Oh no, June, what a horrible thing to happen. It's such an invasion of privacy and would leave me with a sick feeling in my stomach!

Oops, morning. I am going outside with a coffee. Beautiful day so far but late afternoon showers and T-storms are predicted. We are supposed to go to a fair this afternoon with D and SIL and the kids. I'm not sure if I'm going or not, depends on my back and shoulders and the weather. Only a slight twinge so far in the low back and shoulders, so it's looking pretty good.

Evening all,
No update from Stella or Ian, so no idea what is happening! Don't they know that sticky-beak minds want to know!!!

Theresa, I know what you mean about customer service. Many years ago hubby and I bought a car stereo. We'd been shopping around and had finally decided to buy. We went to the shop we'd chosen, only to be completely ignored and treated as invisible. We left and went across the road to a competitor where we were treated as if our purchase was the most important of the day. I came home and wrote a letter to both companies. The second company wrote back that they had tracked down who had served us and he was credited in his employee file. We never heard from the first complany. I was so glad I'd written when I heard that the man who served us was recognised.

Victoria, only a week to go, be strong!

Julie, I'm not sure how I'd feel about swimming with ducks. They are very messy birds....

June, I'm so glad all of your hard work was recognised and enjoyed! But what a bummer that you have been robbed, that's again isn't it?? Bugger, bugger, bum!

Tami, hope you get to leave early!

My teaching today was so great compared to the other school I was temping at! They have very long lessons, only 4 a day, so I had 3 classes, the other one was a school assembly. The first 2 were brilliant. Not perfect, but the majority of the class did their work without the noise levels reaching too high. The last one I was warned about - worst class in the school, they were so sorry. The first half of the class (it was an art class) was actually not too bad. They kind of lost it in the second half, but it still wasn't too bad. I mean, they dropped metal chairs which made a lot of noise, they were hard to keep in their seats, and all of the usual guff, but compared to the other school it was still a breeze. Next Wednesday is supposed to be worse than the other, bad, school. I'll let you know.

They had a biggest morning tea fund raiser today and I went along to the end of it. It was a mistake. It was too soon. Next year I'll try again.

Julie, your duck in the pool story was so funny, even more so beause I have seen something similar. Where we lived before, there was a duck threeome, one female and two suitors, who were always together. They at first lived aross the street in a pond. 3 families were feeding them bread and rackers, one for breakfast as they left for work, Al and I for brunch, and neighbor who owned the pond fed them a late lunch when they came in from her daughter's half day at day care. They started meeting that family at the driveway near garage, and that lead them to discover the back yard pool. they would waddle down the driveway, past the pond, and swim in the pool.

Busy day ahead, no more time to comment. I the first new tire is on the vehicle, the flat in the back to go to the tire store for replacement and mounting on other side of the front. I must pick up a prescription, then go get temporary tag for the Kia. Of course the tire store and pharmacy are north, the court house is south, and I will be driving the old car, unless I stop by and swap. I would pass within 2 miles of the house, the extra drive might be worth it.

Hugs to each of you, with extras. I hope to check in again later today.

Hi all. It is 11:30 and I am already home. I even ran a few errands on the way home. It is great when the principal is out of town and no meetings are scheduled. I am allowed to do my lesson plans at home so that is what I am doing (my lesson plans for the year were done months go). Have a service guy coming to fix the water line in the fridge, glad I took the extended contract. My mom was going to come over, but now she can stay home. Kids are not happy. Grandma was going to bring McDonald's for lunch. Mommy told them to make their own lunch.

Good news about Stella, Tami. Thanks.

I overdid it, and am going to lay down for the rest of the day. I've read, and care, but am hurting a bit too much to comment much. I didn't get my dressing changed last night because there was too much blood. I'll start it bleeding again if I try to pull off the saturated padding.

We are under a severe thunderstorm alert, with the possibly of high winds, heavy rain, large hail and even a tornado. That is for late afternoon or early evening. It is now late afternoon and the sun has more or less disappeared. Hubby went with D and SIL and the kids to a fair near Ottawa. I decided not to go because my back is a touch sore and a fair means being on my feet a lot. Plus I admit to being a big chicken and not liking the weather forecast one little big. Cluck, cluck, cluck!

TAMI. good to know that Stella was not ill, thanks for the Stella and Stella son updates. Wishing him a safe surgery and a speedy recovery.

Well, I got the tire taken care of, I have 5 roadworthy tires now. Temp tag is done, I did that first, setting priorities. that had to be done today. AND I did drive the Kia to get the tag, it is a longish drive. After driving both in one day, the KIA is a LOT better driving car :). Should be, the old one is 20 years old!!

Hot and hotter here, for first time I have had to turn on the bedroom AC in addition to the larger living room one to help with that late afternoon heat gain I get in this house.

I talked myself out of buying a pizza while in Clanton. they have the Little Cesar's $5 take out pizzas, and I usually get one when I am down there, about once a month. It will lame 3 or 4 meals for me, and satisfies my pizza craving for another month. but with the tummy problems, decided to pass on it.

Joy's closing was postponed a few more hours, now set at 4:30 PM. Second postponement. I do hope they get all their ducks in a row.

More hugs, till later.

IH went back to the plant today, leaving 3 more crucial errands for me to run. None of those places had drive-thru's either. I brought Robert along to lift and carry everything for me, but my leg is hurting more today than the last 2 days. I really want to get this dressing off of it, and put on a fresh one, but I'm worried about starting the bleeding again. ( I am supposed to change it after 3 days, and it's 4 now.) I'm not allowed to soak it to loosen it, so I don't know what I'm gonna do. Hmmmmm... maybe I should go to the urgent care center and have them do it? They're much closer than my GP or the hospital, and will be open on a holiday weekend.

Theresa.... Mother Nature can be extremely dangerous when she wants to be. Being concerned about going out in potentially bad weather is not being a chicken. It's being prudent. Also, as we get older, our bodies can react badly to weather changes, and exacerbate anything that's already aching. If you start really hurting while everybody else is having fun, concern for you can put a damper on everybody's fun, too, besides your own. I think you made the right call.

MizT, hubby bought me a pizza before he left for the fair so that I would not have to cook - it is so humid here. I am listless and have a headache, but that's just from the humidity.

When we bought this house in 1986 we had a very specific closing date where we had to be out of our rental unit on the same day or pay another month's rent. In the afternoon I phoned the lawyer to see when we could pick up the keys and I was told the keys would not be available until the next day, the day after closing. I was so frustrated because I had to handle the whole move, hubby could not get time off work. I phoned the people that owned the home, which I wasn't supposed to do, and I blew up at them. I told them we would be at their lawyer's to pick up the key that day, and if they didn't like it too bad. I said, "If necessary we will break down the *&^%$# door because as of today it is our *&^%$# door to break down." I got a call from the lawyer about 15 minutes later and was told the keys were ready to be picked up. I guess it pays to lose your temper now and then. I can probably count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I've lost my temper like that; I tend to be a fairly easy going person.

Heidi, if I were you I would go to urgent care. I had been looking forward to going to the fair because I'm a big kid at heart and I love a lot of the midway rides. At least I say I'm a big kid at heart; others say I'm childish.

I love going to fairs, too. I prefer going by myself, or taking friend's kids, so I can play some of the (rigged) games. I hate going with IH because he's such a hopeless stick-in-the-mud. I don't think he was ever a fun-loving kid.

I found out Stella was sick for a few days but nothing serious. I will post when I see an update about her son.

Heidi, if I was close enough I would go to the movie with you. I would also go with you to the fair, or let you take the boys. I love chaperoning our field trip to the fair every year. My favorite game is the water gun races and I beat the kids every year. A few years ago it was me against 19 students. The guy running the game was teasing me and telling the students they were going to beat the teacher. He had more fun teasing all 19 students when I won.

Theresa, I think you met me and not Heidi. As a teacher, I must prepare my lessons and turn in my plans to the assistant principal. My lesson plans look like this: Monday, students will work at their own pace on virtual geography class. Tuesday, ditto. Wednesday, ditto, etc. Me doing lesson plans is a joke, at least this year.

Good morning all
Theresa - hope the severe weather warning turns out to be a fizzer.
Heidi - hope you get that dressing changed. Getting help sounds like the best option. Then go to the movies - sounds good!
June - what a horrible thing to happen. It's such a personal violation - not to mention the inconvenience of replacing cards and licences or the loss of money.
Tami - I like your lesson plans.
Hope those silly doctors decide which of Stella's son's internal bits and pieces they want to remove - poor kid hasn't eaten or had a drink for days!

Meant to tell you that the results of my squishy thing are in and it is all clear.
They came on the day when my ex DIL's brother wife, aged 46, passed after her battle with the disease. I am grateful each time I get that all clear.
