Good to see you back Judy.. glad I didn't feel like this last weekend.
What did you have planned for date night Gail? Bottle of wine, some candles and take away if you don't have anything that doesn't need cooking.. Snuggle up if it is cold down your end of the house.. sounds like fun...

Pretty chilly with the wind today and now wet and muddy again. Don't like Lachies chances of flying tomorrow..top of 12 and showers..

Time to go find some tucker..and then an early night.. catch you all tomorrow.

Date night is steak night, we have already bought the meat, and just lately, takeaway is out of the budget. Bubbly is cold though, and going down a treat...can one live on bubbles alone...YES!

Morning all. Coffee is ready, help yourself. It has been hot by me, but it is hotter for Heidi and Tricia. The feels like here is usually at least 5-10 degrees higher than actual due to our high humidity. That makes it worse. It is just hot and sticky.

I had done two loads of washing. Made 3 dozen muffins and a banana bread and Hubby rang and asked if I would bowl this afternoon. We played mixed pairs. Pairs means I stand for three hours and walk the green twice as many times as other games. I must say my back was not happy! I have to bowl tomorrow as we have a fund raising day (hence all the cooking) so I have been taking it easy tonight.(although I have made another easy to make cake)
My hottest day was in Melbourne, the day Sharon was born. 110.6*F. The nursery had air conditioning but not the rest of the hospital.
Nice to see you back Judy.
MizT, pleased that you have found somewhere cooler to stay.

Sorry that your power is out, Gail. Hope you're warm enough for a lovely Date Night!

We've just been watching Rob's birthday DVD's - 'The Twilight Zone'. Some things look really good, and some ... not so much! Fun seeing household names before they were well known. :)

I slept in this morning, and was woken up to a delightful phone call. Sadie is in season and they got the first breeding early this morning. That means that her black & white pinto foal will be born in 11 months. I am SO excited!!!!! Serenade's foal WILL have a playmate! And I should have a nice little riding horse in a few years.

Heidi, congrats on Sadie's foal. Why am I suspicious that IH invited you for lunch? Is he hiding something or can he be nice?

Heidi, I bought Harley a 31 lb bag of Beneful for $14.50. I asked why it was on clearance for so cheap and found out the store was overstocked. They only had one bag. If they had more I would have called you. I also gave them a $1 coupon.

That's a REALLY cheap price for Beneful! Around here, I can get a 10 lb bag for $17.99.

I just helped out Gil and Don. They're still having problems with the neighbors dog killing their sheep and goats, and they're having awful problems with guard dogs. A friend of ours has a donkey jack that hates dogs, and was raised with sheep and goats, and offered to let them have the donkey. I just picked it up and it's in my horse trailer right now. (It's a cool aluminum trailer, and it's parked in the shade right now.) In half an hour, we're delivering it to Don's place. While we were loading the jack up, he caught sight of a dog and tried to go after it. He really does NOT like dogs.

To add to my good day, I just got an email that Serenade is probably bred, too. The Vet will be checking her next week, but everything looks good. There's no sign of the uterine infection, either.

We went to a local restaurant in Magnolia. It turns out that he wanted to talk to the owner about golf courses.

The donkey is very happy at Don's. He's getting along fine with the goats, and is friendly to Don, who knows nothing about equines. They will rapidly learn that a donkey is smarter than most humans.

IH likes to take me to that restaurant. He's learned that my favorite item on their menu is also the cheapest thing on their menu.

Oh, yeah. I lost the replacement temporary tooth today. Fortunately, I have a dentist appointment to get the permanent tooth put on on Monday. Temporary teeth, for me, take the word 'temporary' very much to heart. They rarely stay on for more than 4 days if the dentist puts them on. I can usually get them to stay on for 3 or 4 weeks.

Gree6ings friends, I just got the computer, BIL can stay online for hours at a time hehehe. Falling asleep at the keyboard, so this will be short.

Yes, it is cooler up here at sisters, I credit all the trees for the cool. Thier house is cooler inside also. they have a water exchange heat pump, instead of air exchange. Right near the house is a cave with a creek running out of it. BIL bought the cave, the land just happened to come with . The water coming out of the cave is always 62 degrees, MUCH easier to use 62 degree water, instead of 100 degree air, for the heat pump exchange. They get an added benefit in this drought and heat. Water is pumped up to house utility room, run through the heat pump, and then usually sent back to the creek. With the drought, it is used to water trees, flowers, lawn, shrubs around the property. BIL just moves the discharge hose about a few times a day.

According to forecast, today is hottest day, tomorrow should be a few degrees cooler, only 100, instead of 104. Monday will get us back into 90's. I may go home Monday afternoon after thems begin to fall for the night.

Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Greetings to all!

Welcome back, Judy! It's good to have you posting here again! How nice that your D#2 and her hubby have returned to Melbourne! I certainly know the feeling! Our D#2 has just moved back to Illinois with her husband! It's so amazing to realize they will be living just over an hour away!

Gail, NOT date night! Say it isn't so! Hopefully your power returned on time to return some normalcy to your life!

Bean, your ideas for a date night without power are great. Was Lachie able to get some flying in, or did the weather intervene, as you guessed it might?

Gail, hooray for the bubbly! I hope you'll be able to have the steak tomorrow!

June, I hope the bowls with Ken went well and hope the bowls tomorrow for the fundraiser (and the bake sale) are a huge success!

Heidi, what wonderful news - the kind of phone call you like to answer! How nice that Sadie's foal will have a playmate! So glad you could follow the good news with a meal you enjoy and didn't have to make!

Tami, you got a great deal on the Beneful dog food - AND used a coupon too! What a bargain hunter!

More good news from Heidi! Serenade is probably bred and the donkey who hates dogs will most likely keep predator dogs away from the sheep and goats! Not-so-good news that you lost the temporary tooth.

MizT, it's great to hear that you are more comfortable at your sister's house. Great science lesson on why her house is cooler than yours! Hopefully the cooler weather will soon be on its way!

Time to head to bed! Feel free to share these healing vibes, , prayers, {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, and positive thoughts for all!

Morning all. Coffee is ready, help yourself.

Rolanda, I hope the toe is feeling better soon. It is not fun when feet, or any part of the feet, hurt.

Heidi, now I am curious, what is your favorite on the menu??? Glad that the donkey is settling in. Does the donkey have a name or are we just going to call him 'Donkey?'

Careful there Rolanda, I can't have my compliment giver hurting herself!
Heidi, our cooktop is gas with an electric ignition, but we can override that and light it 'old-school!'. It was the torchlight that was the problem, as hubby said, 'we obviously use our eyes to cook' :)
Instead of cooking the rib-eye steaks possibly not to their highest potential, we decided to have something else. We flattened some other steak we had and minute fried it, put it on leftover hamburger buns we had, added some salad and instant (yummy) semi-date night dinner :)

Gail, sounds like you made the best of a bad situation. We have all electric appliances so when we lose power we have to use a gas grill. The grill came in handy when we had no power for a week after a hurricane. Oh, yeah. We did runaway and go to Disney World for a few days. I wanted a hot shower

Hi folks.
Lots of posts to make me smile today as I read.. except for the thought of the topsiders melting in the heat. So not good. Must remember to avoid this time of the year if I ever get to cross the water.. Some shocking visions of wind damage over there..hope all our friends over there have escaped damage.

Lachie managed to get the best part of an hours flying in today. The resolution and quality from his new camera is wonderful. I was in the laundry and I was startled by the sound of an aircraft tht was VERY close..and then I realised what it was.. I REALLY enjoyed seeing what he sees from the cockpit..particularly the landings. By the time he landed the visibility was pretty poor. No windscreen wipers and the droplets where streaming up the windscreen. Laughed at Steve leaning forward and trying to improve the visibility with a good wipe..

We have a pretty dismal weather forecast here for the rest of the week. Should get a few jobs done inside.
Love and hugs to all.
Thank you all for bucking me up when I was feeling so despondant & fed up this week. This next week is going to be MUCH better..well..that's the plan.

Tami.... the donkey's name is 'Jack'. He's not the normal grey color, he's solid black, and in good condition. When I unloaded him from the trailer, IH wanted to deworm him. Fortunately, I had a couple of tubes of horse dewormer in my truck, apple cinnamon flavor. Jack liked the dewormer so much that he clamped down on a tube and wouldn't let IH have it back. It was really funny watching the two of them having a tug-of-war with the empty tube. I finally tickled Jack's jaw so he would release the tube. Donkeys are very intelligent creatures, much smarter than horses and Jack is obviously a smart one.

Am I the only one here who can cook a steak outside on a charcoal grill using a flashlight (torchlight) to check it's progress? I've lost count of the number of times I've cooked on a grill at night in the dark. With practice, you can cook steaks to their optimum potential. Easy-peasy.
