My dietician said 6 small meals.. 2-3 serves of Carbs for the 3 main ones (Breakfast, Lunch Dinner) 1-2 serves of Carbs for the snacks (mid morning, mid afternoon, evening).. These meals are to be 2-3 hours between each of them. This is to keep the Blood Sugar level even.
15g of Carbohydrates = 1 serve.

Gail, the recipe for making her own favorite meal, handwritten on a neat recipe card with all of Mom's secret tips and a grocery gift card to buy the main perishable ingredients. If it requires a spice, cooking tool or utensil you know she does not have, throw that in also??

Long day today, 3 hours in traveling, 3 hours measuring and marking out furniture outlines on floor with masking tape, lunch out at oriental place (unfortunately cause of my mouth I think, not as good as the first time). I got home around 4, slept till BIL phoned and woke me 2 hours later. Had a bite to eat, went to sleep in my chair for another hour till Daughter Tanya phoned me another hour later, then back to sleep to be awakened at 9:30 PM by someone phoning about the ad I had in local advertisement paper (The Mule Trader and yes, on occasion I have seen mules offered in there, in the farm section). I offered a bag of worn jeans for $1 a pair, and a bag of Khaki pants for $2 a pair. Some teen it sounded like is getting his back to school clothes cheap hehehe.

Rolanda.... When I first read your post at the top of the page, I thought I read 2-3 serves of CRABS, instead of carbs. I think my eyes are tired.

Not really here...wqandered in to grab my netbook and charger and couldn't resist turning it on... I am SO HOPELESS! I'm never going to get out of here and on the road to Geelong..

I love all the ideas for a care package. I sent one to my sister whern she moved to WA a few decades ago. I included a replica of my favourite mug so she could have a cuppa with me...

Heidi I think the crabs sound much more interesting. I refuse to count carbs. If I eat intuitively my system tells me what it wants and needs.. it is when I ignore what my body is telling me and gobble up what my eyes are feasting on that I get into strife.. I eat with an awareness of the glycaemic index but do not let it govern me. A little in moderation goes a long way to stop irrational cravings which is what happens when I totally restrict or deny myself things..

Totally agree with the 6 little 'meals' per day..if I can remember to eat I actually function quite well on that.. my problem is I get absorbed in what I'm doing and suddenly realise that half the day has gone without having eaten!

On that note I'd best stop tapping and pack this, grab my toothbrush and hit the road..

Hi, Sudoku Friends! I'm getting kind of a late start tonight, but will try to make it through all of the posts.

We left the house about 10 this morning, drove to Chicago, got a quick bite to eat, then visited with D and the new puppy until about 4 today. (Puppy is almost 4 months old miniature schnauzer.) Unfortunately, SIL was gone the whole time - working on/organizing the classroom he'll have this year. All next week will be meetings, with about .5 day to work in his classroom. The students start the following week.

Suzy, thinking positive thought for your house guests from this week. Hopefully some stability will be in their future. So glad that the 4-year-old at least had a few days of calm and structure. Has the mom been to the police about being followed and picture being taken by his family?

Suzy, how thoughtful of Don to plan a special get-away for the two of you! Too bad you couldn't enjoy the next day browsing in the area, but you definitely want to take days of teaching when you can. BTW, I hope all family members are feeling better and on the road to recovery!

Tami, it sounds like you could be facing a challenging year at school!

Theresa, I hope the headache has disappeared! Just wondering how well you need to know a cat before you can check under its tail . . . ? It sounds like your storage solution on the sunporch will work well.

Nola, it's always nice to see you post! I hope you're enjoying your job! Keeping your sister in my thoughts and prayers!

Judy, seems like you've had a busy summer! I hope your Mum enjoyed the birthday celebration! Happy Birthday to Judy's Mum! Also, Happy Birthday to number 1 child! Did you think of an amazing gift for her?

Heidi, you're right; IH seems to lead a charmed life, at least in some respects. (Although much of his good fortune ultimately seems to be because of you insisting that he should do something.) Do you think he appreciates his good fortune?

Cyn, we're glad to see your posts when you can get here!

Suzy, I also saw the same story about the mother dog rescuing her puppies! What a shame that one of them didn't make it, but good for her for saving the others!

Gail, you're continuing to make good progress with your painting! Keep up the good work! So sorry that I am currently brain-dead and can't think of anything else to put in the care package for Chloe. You've already had some excellent suggestions!

Rolanda, your TOPP was obviously a good topic. I enjoy reading abut ways to eat when diabetic or pre-diabetic. I suspect I'm heading in that direction.

Bean, like you, I can get going on smething and totally forget to eat. The idea of 5 or 6 small meals a day seems do-able. Enjoy your weekend away!

I need to head to bed. I am making more corrections (and hoping I have found all of them) than I should need to do. , positive thoughts, {{{{HUGS}}}}, healing vibes and prayers for all!

Laura, her father, other grandmother and Belinda and coming for dinner tonight for Laura's birthday (next Monday). Belinda has had a friend make a fabulous birthday cake. Rather expensive but I know Laura will love it. Will post pictures tomorrow. I am taking the easy way out and will order either Chinese or Thai. I have been busy doing a bit of house cleaning.
As Suzy says, it is windy and cold. A change after days around 20*c early in the week. It has actually been snowing about 70k from here.

Morning ..........

Gail, I got a silly little thing from my sister one time, but it meant a lot and I've kept it for years. In fact it made me teary-eyes when I opened it. She gave me a little box and inside it was an eraser, a penny, a marble, an elastic, a string and a chocolate Hershey's kiss. There was a handwritten note inside that said:

Anti-depression kit

An eraser to make all those little mistakes go away.
A penny so you will never be completely broke.
A marble for those days when you're sure you've lost all yours.
An elastic to help you stretch beyond your current limits.
A string to hold it all together when it seems to be falling apart.
And a chocolate treat to remind you that someone cares for you!

Chaka is here.
They got lost following GPS instructions instead of my directions. Once they got here, they were intimidated by the number of dogs and were concerned about introducing her at once to the pack. Especially since she was acting very aggressive at the shelter and outside the fence. I explained that that behavior is typical for collies. They love to bluster when they're safely behind a fence. Mason was acting aggressive on my side of the fence, too. So I called the dogs and locked most inside the house, so Chaka could come in the yard. She got along fine with the first few (including Mason), so I released a few more, and continued that until Chaka was in with the whole pack. She's getting along fine. She just followed me into the house and is having a blast bird watching. No problem.

Hi all. Stopping in for a minute before I fling food at the beasties.

WARNING, VENT COMING...
My mom is going to drive me to the funny farm. We went today to help pack and throw stuff out. The mover is coming Wednesday. Her neighbor came over to help. I was working in my old bedroom when the neighbor came to me and asked me if I had any Valium to give my mother. I told her no, but I wish I did. My mom is being psychotic right now and my dad is not much better. He got mad at my husband because hubby did not want to take old, rusty tools. He has a tool chest and doesn't need the rusty pieces. He did take a bunch that were in good shape. This is going to be a looooooong week.

I don't know if you remember, but some months ago I mentioned about D's friend who had a baby who died shortly after birth. Her friend came to see D a few weeks back (her friend lives out west, but her parents live in Ottawa). The baby had had the cord wrapped around her neck 4 times and around her abdomen 3 times. Apparently it is something that happens very rarely, the length of the cord is longer than usual. The baby was resuscitated twice and then the decision was made to take her off life support. The doctors told the parents the baby's life expectancy was short and she would be in a total vegetative state because of the lack of oxygen to the brain. The parents got to hold the baby who died quietly in the mother's arms. They have a picture of her, and she looks just like a doll. They are trying again for another baby as the doctors convinced them that this would not happen again, the odds were just too great.

D gave her friend a bracelet locket with a picture of the baby inside.

They are such a strong young couple.

Just spent the last hour and a half driving around the pasture that the cows are in (34 acres) looking for a newborn calf that mama had hidden. IH was freaking out because he'd seen a bunch of vultures circling the pasture. I told him that placenta and afterbirth will bring scavengers in, it doesn't have to be a dead animal. I finally quit as it was getting dark. As soon as I got back in the house and started supper, IH called to say that mama finally went to the calf to nurse it. It's nice and healthy, but he couldn't tell what gender it is.

Greetings to All!

Happy Birthday to Laura! It's too bad she had a tummy ache, though it could well be related to having he first birthday without her Mum! I'm looking forward to the picture of her cake, June! How nice of you to invite her Dad and other Grandmother to the celebration.

Theresa, I agree with Rolanda and Gail! What a wonderful idea for a birthday gift, especially when you need to celebrate miles apart.

Heidi, I guess I can understand the rescue people being a bit hesitant when first seeing your collie family! What a great idea to introduce Chaka to the others a few at a time. BTW, I also think Chaka is beautiful! She will feel so much more comfortable without all the mats.

Tami, I wish I could be there to help, even if it were just to distract your Mom and Dad while you got some packing done. Maybe you can tell them that if you don't get the packing done, the movers will decide what should be moved and what should be packed. That way, you can blame the movers for anything that doesn't get delivered to their condo.

Broni, so sorry it's been a tough week for you. Pop in any time for a {{{HUG}}} or friendly word of two!

Theresa, what a sweet gift for your D to give to her friend! Will be thinking positive thoughts for her and her husband as they decide if they want to try again for a healthy baby.

Heidi, I'm glad the newborn calf was found and its mother was finally nursing it. It's not a surprise though that you will need to wait until you see it to know its s3x.

June, loved your comment about lifting its tail! LOL!

Theresa, I also loved your innocent response to June's comment!

Time for me to head to bed. Sending lots of healthy vibes, {{{{HUGS}}}}, positive thoughts, prayers and Take care, everyone!

Hi all.
Suzi...loved the link to the dog that rescued her puppies. You wonder what goes through there mind when someone is taking the pups away to be checked.
She took them to the best place for safety.

Gail..you have some fabulous ideas for Chloe's b'day parcel from the sudokuists.I couldn't think of anything outstanding.

Cyn..I was also wondering about Broni and then she showed up.

Broni..Many hugs to help you cope.

June.. to Laura for tomorrow.

Tami...PARENTS..hang in there. It might still get worse hehe.

Theresa..I hope it helped the mother to talk about her baby girl to your daughter. What a beautiful present for her.(the locket)
I must not have worded it correctly when I mentioned I often have 6 snacks instead of meals. But I also miss meals if I am not hungry.(Missing meals is not got for diabetics.)
You asked about Judy....well.
She had a fall at night and couldn't get to water.Crawled to kitchen for water, fell again.Crawled to lounge and that is where Renae found her in the afternoon.
She got her water and phone then contacted me.
I gave her a shower, and then she fell again getting her out just as Renae arrived for the 2nd time,so we called an ambulance.Judy in hospital on fluids and AB's.

What has really made me angry and upset is this.
Vent coming.
At work we are not meant to take personal calls except for emergencies.
I was to clock off at 2.30pm when she rang work to tell them that Judy needed me.It was minutes past 2.30pm.(I never finish on time and almost daily do an extra 15-30min).The RN said 'Is it personal or about a resident'. Renae said it was personal but very important. The RN refused to put the call through to me.
Most days I call in to check on Judy, but today I was tired. I drove 15klm home then had to go back into town to find Judy in such a mess.
