MORNING STELLA, nope not sleeping in, COOKING here. tomorrow is the birthday party (for my daughter who has arrived in Alabama) and the "meet the fiance" day, so I am busy, making large quantities of squash casserole, and potato salad. We are doing a "southern cooking" menu for him, a born and bread Californiaian hehehe.
Turnip greens, black eyed peas, Squash casserole, potato salad, chicken and dressing with the chicken cooked inside, the way poor southerns feed a LOT of people with one little chicken. Sliced ham, sliced tomatoes, cornbread, and sweet iced tea rounds off the menu, with both a blackberry and peach cobbler pie for dessert, and birthday cake too. Do you think that might be enough to feed 16 people?

STELLA, at first glance, number of coins has to be an even number of each. My mind is on cooking, not puzzles, and still a bit foggy from the meds yesterday.

MizT, that sounds like enough food to feed an army! I'm sure everything will be perfect! Have you met your daughter's fiance yet?
BTW, you are right about the number of coins, 10!

HI DEBBY, come on down, and taste away! Better still, arrive tomorrow for the party. Everyone was always welcome at a dinner at My Mom's house and my sister now carries on the tradition.
Progress report: Squash casserole ready to bake, will take and bake at sister's house tomorrow, everything in it is already cooked but the eggs, so will not take long in the oven. First batch of potato salad almost finished. I must make 2 versions, one that is reduced fat, and one that is regular. Not a biggie, just mix part in different bowls. Leave out the egg yolks and use reduced fat mayo for the "healthy" one. I decided to boy the birthday cake. I must get to the store early to pick something and have them write HAPPY BIRTHDAY on it.

Stella, no I have not met Ian the fiancee in person. I have talked to him on phone, seen pictures, and heard so much about him, so I feel like I know him.

MizTricia - Thank you so much for the invite! I feel that way at my house. There is always room for one or two more. We have raised five children and someone was always bringing someone home. (And they still do.) I love my house filled with laughter!
Our neighbor next door has 6 children and they come over to play on the swingset. I love to hear the children outside.

Family of good cooks here. One cousin in GA is making the cobbler pies from fruit she had put away in the freezr when in season. Chris always makes the desserts, and she is good. Tanya's favorite cousin's wife makes the dressing and cornbread. Dressing was always Mom's assignment before and Joann has taken over nicely. My sister is doing the peas and turnip greens and ham. Al's brother insisted on bringing something, but his helath is still not good, told him deviled eggs would be fine. Sister's daughter bringing in the paper plates and napkins, she had TWO family parties widely scattered, one Saturday for hubbies family in Georgia, so she gets excused from cooking this year.

Sister is about 70 miles, or hour and 15 minutes if I drive hehehe. Hubby keeps just under the speed limit and takes him longer. most is freeway driving, they live just 2 turns from the freeway exit. we are further away here.
Yes, they arrived last night. arrived at airport HUNGRY,(not time for eating on layover , barely time to make next plane) and so they stopped to get lunch/dinner on the way out to my sister's house. Tanya took him to Cracker Barrel, a chain for southern comfort foods, for some other southern favorites, fried okra, and fried green tomatoes, and fried chicken. We do not do a lot of fried foods now, to many with high cholesterol or other heart problems.

Stella, special in that she is here to share it with my side of the family. Huumm, I will have to figure how old she really is. Thirty five, today, actually. Party tomorrow since that was when her cousins could come, they had plans for today.
NO, engagement is not "offical" yet, he has not given her a ring, unless that is to be birthday present this year, but I am not counting on it. they talk of marriage in the future, but no date.
They are staying at my sister's while Ian is here, I do not have room for both of them here and sister does at her house. Daughter will arrive at my house on Monday after taking him to airport.

and know it will be a wonderful party
tomorrow to celebrate! Be sure to take pictures and fill us in on Monday. Please drive carefully!
BTW, tomorrow is hubby's birthday! Thanks to all who have included him in thoughts & prayers! There has been no further bleeding since it stopped in the hospital in Vienna, & the gout that developed after we got home is nearly gone. (The ER doctor said it was due to his multiple medications and the two units of blood he received while in the hospital.) Lucky guy gets to have another colonoscopy next week. He has seen 4 doctors in the past 2 weeks (not counting the ER), and is getting a clean bill of health so far.

That is all good news, Julie. It seems he's had so many tests that if there was anything wrong, they'd be picking it up! My hubby can sympathise about the gout. It took him about four weeks to relearn how to walk properly due to the way he had been hobbling when his toe was double its normal size. Has he been put on to long term gout meds or does the dr. think it was a one-off?

Good thanks Rena. Two of the chicks are in the nest. Brunch is done and dusted. We only eat twice on a Sunday usually, so it will be a light dinner tonight.
