Meghan will not be home. She is spending her spring break doing community service. The group from her college is leaving on Saturday to go to the Appalchian area to build a house and such. All of her friends are going someplace exotic and restful. She works so hard, she could definitely use a break, but she wanted to do this. I was going through her room to look for her work boots and there was a stack of typed papers, several hundred sheets. I thought they were articles she had to read for one of her courses last year. No, they were her notes that she typed for one of her classes! It blew me away! I hope she does find some time to rest and have fun!

d1 is studying earthquakes in science at the moment and was able to tell her class that she was 'in' the Northridge quake in 1993. Of course she was only a few months old at the time, but she did get to hear all about it from her father and me.

Hi all. Just popping in for a minute. If I stay longer, nothing will get done.

Gail, I posted the pork chop recipe. Really almost any stuffing can be used. I use this one because it's simple.

Brenda, glad you made it through the quake ok. We've had a few minor ones that moved things away from the walls, but no damage.

It's 19 F (-7 C) outside with a wind chill of -1 (-18). Last night we started out with sleet and mother nature topped it off with snow.

Will try and get back later if I don't freeze to one spot.

Stella, Hubby is home last just about every night, seeing clients.
On Wednesday Nights the Show Room is open till 8.00pm. and he didnt get home till after 9.00pm last night.
Today he is installing, he may be home early, or he may be home late.
(Hubby is a Cabinet Maker)
No I dont wait for Hubby to come home to eat.. I eat with the Boys, usually around 6.00 - 6.30pmish
Always ate with the boys when they were little.
Thought it was important for them to be eating with Adults at the dinner table.

Earthquakes, back about a year ago, there was one out in the Gulf, oh, 400 miles or more from me. I happened to be sitting in my recliner, feet up, and I felt it. It was a long rolling one, I felt like I was on water, and a gentle swell pushed me up and back down. I mentioned it to my hubby, he did not feel it. I had mentioned it BEFORE I saw about it on the news, and happened to remember the time, time was the correct time. A strange feeling for sure. Very much like being in a boat.

Just back from a ride along with hubby, he had to go into town and I had not been out in over a week, begged a ride to " get out of the house". Too cold to go and sit on the porch, but car ride was just fine.

Seems we had storm damage a lot closer to home than I thought. A huge tree down, and just missed the house of a neighbor down the lane. I mean, the tip little branches must have scratched down the end wall of thier house, THAT close. then further down the lane, a huge old oak down along the side of the road, in the cow pasture. Couple smaller trees down on roadside, and gee, I did not hear a thing, being out in the dome for shelter. We do not even hear the wind out there most times.

ooh MizT, that was close.

Brenda - they tell us it's impossible, but I'm sure we heard the Northridge quake coming, which was just as well as we could have ended up with a television sitting on our tummies and a chest of drawers on our feet

Good morning all! Arctic blast hit us and it is 5*F with windchills in the negative. The heavy snow brought down some trees in the forest. Max and I took a walk yesterday morning in the woods and a lot of the paths were blocked. I'll have to post some of the pictures.

Gail, have a great time at your sister's birthday party. Hope she has a fun 60th! Hope your Mum is doing well too!

Rolanda, have a great weekend in the caravan. You're a regular camper! Enjoy!

MizT, good thing the damage missed you. Your dome seems very sturdy and insulated!

Hubby has to bring Meghan a bunch of supplies. I guess they sleep on the floor in an unheated building, so we got her a little blowup pool float to sleep on. She had a list she had to get, including googles, work gloves, wipes, tissues, etc. Some of the things she didn't even know what they were or what they would be used for, like Gold Bond powder. Who knows. I just hope she doesn't get hurt!

Julie and Becky, did you get much snow or cold temps? Our weather seems to have come from your direction. Winter is holding on fiercely at the moment, but that's to be expected in February. I imagine the temperature will be really warm in Florida when we go down in April. Max was so excited when I told him he would have to wear shorts all of the time!

Hi everybody...
WOW...haven't I been missing out on a thing or two......

It is SOOOooooooo good to have the computer back up to speed. Haven't worked out what the bog download was that effectively put us off air but we are going to try and be much more CAREFUL!!

MizT - we don't have much in the way of shakes down here but I do recall way back in the 70's when I was young and carefree lying on the floor in my sisters flat watching the walls move thinking that I really didn't think I'd had that much to drink and that I'd better give up the 'Black Russians'.

It was with great delight upon hearing the news the next day I realised that I didn't have to stop lubricating my tonsils in such a delightful way..

Rolanda could you please shuffle that warm weather over here with a bit more speed. We are off to an open air LEAP DAY CONCERT tonight and we don't want to get too cold or rained upon. I am wearing a jumper for the first time in months.

Zoos Victoria is part of a worldwide taskforce established to raise funds to save frogs from extinction and all proceeds from the show at the Melbourne Zoo tonight are being donated. A very pleasant way to help [providing we don't get rained on!!]

On that note I'd better get off to bed or I'll never manage to get out of bed in time to get the picnic hamper packed before I have to leave in the afternoon.
Lachie is off to 'La Mama' in Carlton for dinner before a play and so it is just hubby and I to cater for....shouldn't be that hard......
Salad, frittata and fresh fruit?? [& BUBBLES]
Ciao for now

I've just said goodbye to the gardener. He has worked wonders in the garden, now we just have to keep on top of it and get the veg seeds planted to go into the old rabbit run (area about 10ft by 10ft)

Brenda, glad you escaped earthquake damage and have your garden prepared. Just a little work with the hoe and rake and you'll be ready for seed. What do you plan to plant?
Suzy, we had two little earthquakes last year and I (and everyone I talked to) heard the first one coming and going. The bump sounds increased and then died out quickly. There was certainly time to jump out of bed if you wanted. The second one, however, was just one bump.

Stella, I guess someone thinks d1 is going to get chafed. I know she'll be tired and sore. With the way they orchestrate those builds (knowing the labor is unskilled and inexperience) she shouldn't get hurt if she follows instructions.

That lack of a 'd' on inexperienced is killing me.

Stella, if y'all are going to Florida, I presume you'll come down I-95. About 15 miles before you get to the NC/SC state line, wave to the west to me.

BEAN, your menu sounds very nice for a picnic. I had to look up frittata , was unsure what you were going to be eating. A mighty fancy word for a crustless quiche! I make a nice quiche on occasion, and buy my pie crusts in the freezer section, in lovely little aluminum baking pans. So fast, easy and hubby really likes them. I let him continue to think they are only for "special"

Well, I am off, again, must send the Mexican Pie recipe to oldest daughter. She phoned today, I mentioned it ( she is really into cooking and recipes at the moment) and she would like to make it also.

Everyone cross fingers that my grandson gets accepted to Coast Guard Accademy! He may not know till mid June, and the suspense is getting to wear thin for him and his Mom. It is rather iffy at the moment, as he did not decide that was what he wanted to do early enough in his highschool years to plan all that needs to be planned to ensure acceptance. OH MY, I did not know what all one must do today to get accepted into college of choice. It was much different when I was in school and when my girls were in school. If you had the SAT scores back then, you got in. NOW, SAT's seem to be just a screening process, still need the scores to be considered, but so very much more considered in adition to scores. Live and learn.

I'm glad you said you heard the earthquakes Ruby! The 'scientists' in LA used to insist that it wasn't possible, yet we were equally sure we had heard that one coming! Now I have finally heard of someone else who has heard one coming! The bigger ones always seemed to hit LA around 4am - which meant that when the power went out it was really, really, really dark.

MizT, fingers crossed for your grandson! d1 is in Year 9 where most are 14-15 years old and is already finding that subject choices now limit options later. Crazy really. The wrong subjects in the last 2 years can keep you out of Uni/College altogether let alone out of the degree you want, no matter how well you do in the subjects you study. Here the only compulsory subject in the last 2 years is English, everything else you choose - including math.

Hi Suzy, Tricia, Ruby, Stella, Brenda, Julie, Rolanda, Bean , Becky and anyone else who drops by. Just called in to see what everyone was doing. Hope everyone is in good or improving health and the temperature where ever you are goes up or down to a more pleasant one for you. We have had a couple of days of rain but the sun is shining at the moment. Last day of summer and while Rolanda in Perth has had a very HOT summer ours here in Sydney has been a lovely cool one.

SUZY, yes, what courses you take is most important. I am also finding some things such as what you did as community service are important, not just how many hours community service you have. It needs to be unusual to get thier attention, but not connected with some group too conservative or too liberal for the college of choice, not something radical, or trendy. It needs to be a " good match" for your school of choice.

What sports, too and that can be so uncertain, what they are looking for at the time your application comes up for review. Did they graduate half the fencing team, and so far, not enough students who can fence have accepted invitation? or rowing? or any other of the more unusual sports. Oh they get enough applicants who are top football, baseball, and soccer players, probably track and field too, maybe looking for some of the more obscure, like triathlon or something. So it would help if you had been on half a dozen teams of some " different" sports. I mean this is soo competitive. Just more stress than a high school student needs I fear.
