Good morning all! Hubby broke down, 5 miles before getting off the highway coming home from Boston. (about 45 minutes away) Something happened to the tire, the bearings maybe, and it couldn't be driven. The car had to be towed and I had to go pick everyone up. Unfortunately, that is our one good vehicle. Our van is 16 years old and on its last leg and the kids' car is 19 years old and has been on its last leg for a while. The garage it was towed to is closed for the weekend, so we have to wait until tomorrow to find out what is wrong with it. This really messes everything up. We're not sure what to do tomorrow regarding gettin Max to school and hubby to work, no less Bryana to her orthodontist appointment. We have to think of something today.

Here is an email I recieved that I thought was appropriate for this site:

Sisters

A young wife sat on a sofa on a hot humid day,
drinking iced tea and visiting with her Mother. As they talked about life, about marriage, about the responsibilities of life and the obligations of adulthood, the mother clinked the ice cubes in her glass thoughtfully and turned a clear, sober glance upon her daughter.
'Don't forget your Sisters,' she advised, swirling the tea leaves to the bottom of her glass. 'They'll be more important as you get older. No matter how much you love your husband, no matter how much you love the children you may have, you are still going to need Sisters. Remember to go places with them now and then; do things with them.'
'Remember that 'Sisters' means ALL the women...
your girlfriends, your daughters, and all your other women relatives too. 'You'll need other women. Women always do.'
What a funny piece of advice!' the young woman
thought. Haven't I just gotten married?
Haven't I just joined the couple-world? I'm now a
married woman, for goodness sake! A grownup! Surely my husband and the family we may start will be all I need to make my life worthwhile!'
But she listened to her Mother. She kept contact
with her Sisters and made more women friends each
year. As the years tumbled by, one after another,
she gradually came to understand that her Mom really knew what she was talking about. As time and nature work their changes and their mysteries upon a woman, Sisters are the mainstays of her life.
After more than 50 years of living in this world,
here is what I've learned:
THIS SAYS IT ALL:
Time passes.
Life happens.
Distance separates.
Children grow up.
Jobs come and go.
Love waxes and wanes.
Men don't do what they're supposed to do.
Hearts break.
Parents die.
Colleagues forget favors.
Careers end.
BUT.........
Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how many miles are between you. A girl friend is never farther away than needing her can reach.
When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you have to walk it by yourself, the women in your life will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the valley's end.
Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you...Or come in and carry you out.
Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters,
daughters-in-law, sisters, sisters-in-law, Mothers, Grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins, and extended family, all bless our life!
The world wouldn't be the same without women, and
neither would I. When we began this adventure called womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we would need each other.
Every day, we need each other still. Pass this on
to all the women who help make your life meaningful.
I just did. Short and very sweet:
There are more than twenty ange

SA3ers.
There is just something about your own bed isn't there. I had THE best night sleep last night after two flip-flop nights in a motel room.
Can't stay long, so I will come back later and fill you in about the weekend, suffice it to say, a good time was had by all.
Youngest daughter has an appointment with the chiropodist this morning so I shouldn't be here...but it's an addiction!

Stella, sorry to hear about hubby's car. If the last service on it was less than a year ago, I'd squawk at whoever did it. If the bearings were inspected and packed right, they shouldn't go out like that.

MizT, Ruby and Suzy, somewhat on the lines of what you guys were saying.

I'm sick to death of the commercials that scream at you, that are annoying and the political campaign ads. I'd like to meet the person who invented the mute button for the tv and give them a big old hug. Hubby was laughing at me last night while I kept pushing the button off and on.

Have just been watching "a year with the Royal Family". When the people were getting their invitations to the Royal Garden Party it reminded me of when we got a registered letter and when I opened it there was an invitation to lunch "in the presence of HRM Queen Elizabeth II"
It was unbelievable. Rang Hubby and said we have just received an invitation to have lunch with the Queen. He told me not to be so stupid!
We did have lunch with her along with about 400 other people.

Good morning all! Dreary day ahead. But the temp is warmer so the snow is melting, somewhat.

Ruby, that is our relatively new car since we bought it new in '04. Can't afford another car. We'd have to get a second mortgage. Haven't heard any word about it yet, but keeping fingers crossed.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Everyone, the day here started off bright but chilly. I decided I would hang some of the washing outside to dry, next time I looked out of the window we were having hailstones so I brought the clothes in damper than they went out, so much for saving energy, I now have to dry them in the dryer.

Bean I hope you find a the perfect property. Is this to retire too or is it for a holiday place?
Stella with all the traveling you do, taking kids places or just going to watch games they are involved in you need to have a reliable car. I hate been stranded at home without a car.

Hi everyone...Just to call and say 'I love you all'. The 'Sisters' email is a popular one and with good reason...Women do need each other and comfort each other, throughout life...Its perfect for this site
The ever faithful vdV can be our honorary sister, if he is willing to accept the offer. That same status can be conferred on any of our male visitors. Since they are secure enough in their manhood to visit and interact with us ... they fit right in!

HI and mAen Sudokuland. Yep, I had a bit of a lie in this morning. I just could not get to sleep last night. Then busy today, had to pick up a few things at the grocery, like COFFEE and colas for hubby. Diet colas, with no caffien, huumm, colored flavored water hehehe.

Weather watch again tonight, storms that went through Oklahoma with tornadoes yesterday, same system will come through our area sometime tonight or in the morning. We have gusty wind today. The kind that rattles the tin roof on our back porch, noisy, unsetteling.

Neither kitty likes the wind. they come running inside and asking that we turn it off for them. When we cannot, they just stay close, right under foot if we are up and about, lying at our feet if we stand still, or in our lap if we sit. At least they will be close at hand when we go to shelter whenever we go tonight.

I really hate the storms that come at night, much rather they be day time. but I do not always get my druthers!

Later, friends,

Morning all
June - started looking down Gippsland way because of the higher rainfall and because half of my life was spent in goldrush country [Maldon] or saltbush plains and desert [Deniliquin]. Wanted a change and I love the country down thata way. But...
price has sent us north and are now getting into the high country....Man from Snowy River Country.....every photo I look at that has snow prompts immediate enthusiasm from my son.

Brenda..I like the idea of retiring but I suspect that buying this dream will ensure I never retire....unless hubby takes early retirement with a big payout to finance dream / gets a package & does the same / I find the end of the rainbow...

The older I get the stronger the urge to commune with nature gets and my need get back to grass roots....I want somewhere were I can plant and grow lots of trees. I love trees and just want to help reforrest the planet...every little bit helps. At least the air on my country retreat will be pure. I love to paint and to write [when I'm not on this wretched computer] and it is an artists retreat I dream of.

Hi Bean, out of interest I was looking up properties available with trees and water in rural Victoria. Saw a couple that I would have liked. Of course one has to have the ready to buy! One daughter has 10 acres and that is enough for us to cope with. (No partner)
I grew up on 230 acres which we only sold about 8 years ago.
Bean, We had lunch with the Queen at Hombush Olympic Stadium in 2000. Ken was in charge of NSW Baseball at the time and there were people there representing the administration of the different sports involved with the Olympics. My chair was next to the red carpet and we were about 4 tables back with a clear view during lunch.
