Theresa, Aussies are sports mad. In a 30 minute news program, 15 minutes of it will be sport updates. Depending on the season it could be football (rugby league, rugby union, aussie rules), soccer, cricket, tennis, golf, Olympics, you name it! I've been married almost 20 years and hubby has watched very little sport - until they started a channel here that covered American sport - even though he didn't watch it when we lived there!

Hi Victoria - my daughter loves the Body Shop. I'm assuming it's the same ones we have here. I know the feeling where it seems like being at work is almost like a rest.
Rolanda - it's truly amazing what "motivation" can do.

Suzy, my husband is not a huge sports fan, except for boxing. He used to do a bit of boxing. He was also a competitive powerlifter in his younger days. He probably has about 30 trophies, if not more. He still lifts weights and goes for runs, etc., to keep in shape. Obviously he has more energy than I do.

Theresa, I like hockey but haven't been paying attention to the olympic games. I have been watching the skiing. I live about 15 minutes from where the Florida Panthers play. I have been to a few games, when I have been lucky enough to get free tickets. NHL is also out of my price range. The orthodontist that we use for the kids braces is one of the team doctors for the Panthers. We have gotten tickets from them for 2 games so far.

Guess what was just delivered???? My new laptop! To replace the one I killed with coffee.... No coffee near this one! Time to take it out of the box and see what it looks like!!! Yay!
I'm so excited I forgot what else I was going to say. I'll have to read again and say it on my new laptop!!!

Theresa, I also like boxing and have been to several professional matches. I have a good connection at Don King Enterprises and get free tickets. We have taken the boys twice so far and they love it.

Zusy, good luck with the new laptop. What kind did you get? A laptop is on my wish list along with new nehctik appliances and a new wet sloshy machine and a hot spinny thing. I will try to buy at least one new thing with my summer camp money.
My computer is acting very sluggish tonight. Maybe it is telling me it is old and I should buy a laptop.

I use my laptop at home but hubby is looking to replace his computer as it is really slow. Now that #2 has bought an external hard drive and removed all his movies etc it may run faster - at least it has more memory now.

My school issued laptop is very slow. I know it is going to crash soon. The tech specialist reloaded a lot of the programs hoping that it might prevent any problems.
I am going to say good night now. It is almost past my bedtime. Hope tomorrow is a good day for everyone.

Hello lovely people.
MizT - good thoughts go to Tanya. Any more updates?
June - so pleased all is going well and that you got to Petra - as I said the other day, I've always wanted to go there.
Theresa - that dream is probably nowhere near as sinister as you might think!
Got interrupted and forgot everything else I had to say!

Oh yes - Heidi - sorry about losing the calf. You've had some bad luck in the past weeks, haven't you.
I mainly use my laptop - our big computer is dreadfully slow. We got someone to look at it and he got it working better but it's got sluggish again.

I'm back and on my new laptop! It won't be much quicker than the old one for the internet as that is a provider problem - well, living in the boonies problem. It's very cute though and will be quicker with everything else. It's a DELL with intel core duo and Windows 7 - yay! No more Vista!! That was the only good part about killing the other laptop. That and being able to give the hard drive away to someone who needed one and couldn't afford to buy one.

I didn't know they sold PCs without Vista any more? When I was looking at laptops for IH last year, I saw nothing but Vista.

Tami, in this house computers come before everything else. All the other things that are falling apart have to wait.
I'm going to use an external hard drive to store a lot of videos and photos from now on. It does slow the computer down to have the memory too full.
When I lived in the US I used to love wandering around the Body Shop. We don't have one down here but when we visit Sydney I always go into one for a wander. I rarely buy anything, but I look and smell!

As you can guess we are now officially broke. I was careful though and worked out the budget before we bought.

They never actually admitted Vista had a problem though Heidi... just came out with 7 very quickly. From what I have heard, if you have a super duper computer with tonnes of memory etc Vista was actually okay.
I just spoke to my mother. I call her a couple of times a day to see how she is going. She is going home tomorrow! That will be the 5th day since the surgery!!! Apparently she will be taken home by ambulance (3 hour drive) and given one of those alert thingy's to wear. Considering she dislocated twice last time I'm a little nervous about her going home so soon... she assures me she will be fine. Blasted woman!

Suzy, is there someone at home to look after her?
My MIL spent 3 weeks in rehab at the hospital after her knee op before she returned to her retirement village. She is in assisted living but they have to go to the dining room for their meals.

MIL had a knee replacement and was nearly 80 at the time. At 86 she is talking about having the other one done. I don't want to know about it. I think she is too old but it's her choice.
Hubby and I were the only visitors she had in 10 days in hospital and during the 3 weeks in rehab hubby's oldest sister came from Canberra. I went to see her in rehab every afternoon after work as the hospital was just up the road. The other son and youngest daughter (who both live only an hour away) couldn't find time to visit her.

Vicki, I thought she was going to be there for 2 weeks - 1 week in hospital, 1 in rehab. She says she is too good for rehab.. She lives alone but her neighbours have said they will be checking on her and helping her out all the time. They seem to live in each others' houses so I'm not worried about that kind of support. I'm worried about her falling during the night etc. With the alert thingy that should work out okay, but... you know how we daughter's like to worry!

I'm glad she has such good friends who live close. That must be a relief for you to know that she has people who will look after her plus the alert monitor as well.
My mother refused to wear the monitor (she doesn't like things around her neck and never has any pockets). She does have a phone beside her bed though.
MIL has a button beside her bed that she can push for 24 hour assistance. Unfortunately, most times she has fallen she hasn't been near enough to the call button and has had to wait for someone to find her/hear her.
They certainly are a worry when they are so independent.

Same with being a Mother, worry about the child.
The child messaged me the other day, in the afternoon..
Hey Mum, appreciate you care for me, but you do realise that Iam nearly 21, and capable of looking after myself!!!
This was in response to a message I sent 2.00am in the morning, after not getting a response to the message at 11.30pm - are you coming home or staying at friends place to sleep.!!
He did email me to say he was sleeping overnight..sent around 1.30amish, I discovered when I turned my pooter on around 8.00amish.

Hubby's sister and brother just don't seem to care. If we're lucky they visit her once or twice a year unless they want something. His sister visited on the weekend because MIL had promised to give money to one of my nephews for his 21st.
Sorry, I have real trouble with this SIL who has said some very nasty things about me in the last few years. She is currently getting divorced and my MIL wants hubby and I to "make" it up with her. I feel we are owed an apology first, especially as we never said or did anything to cause the problem in the first place. My MIL wants to leave me a ring to hand down through our part of the family. SIL thought she should inherit it when her mother dies and this has caused all the problems. She hasn't spoken to us in about 3 years now.
Most families have some sort of problem, I suppose, although my sister and I reckon our family is too wishy-washy to get that upset.

Rolanda, I don't worry too much about my sons anymore. I have asked them to send me a message if they are staying away unexpectedly. Mostly they forget (I never hear my phone beep either).
I never hear them come home anymore. I only know they are there in the morning because their doors are closed.

Vicki, I agree, 86 is old to be having surgery if you can avoid it, particularly surgery with the type of rehab knee surgery needs! Not that I would have known how much rehab is needed if it wasn't for our resident new-knees person in here!
One hour away and they couldn't visit once in 3 weeks.... I see what you didn't say...

My last post was written before I headed off to pick up the younguns from school. I forgot to hit send before I went!
My family is so messed up you wouldn't believe it! I used to stress about it, now I figure life is too short.
Vicki, I didn't get a lot of the stuff my grandmother wanted me to have when she died, some of it went to my SIL, some to my step-grandfather's new wife.

The one thing that really gets my goat is when someone says they will be there at a certain time and don't have the courtesy to give you a call or text letting you know they are running late and I mean over an hour late.
As for family, a certain ex-wife made my life hell for over a year after JD's passing.

Hello, again! Just in case anyone is worried, I was not in the K room all this time. After flinging, there was, of course, gninaelc up and sehsid, then some time reading the Sunday paper, long phone conversation with D#1 in MA (about 2 weeks until grandie#3 is due), then some hubby time. We watched a DVD of the old Ed Sullivan Show musical acts of the 60's.
Hi, June, Broni, Gail, Theresa, Heidi, Suzy, Tami the Troublemaker, Rolanda, Victoria and CynB! Hello also to MizT, Mamacita, Suzanne Bean, V Vici, V Viv, eaa, Stella and any others I've missed who might pop in for a visit!
June, we are anxiously awaiting pictures! Your trip sounds wongerful!
Theresa, YUMMM! Oh, the thought of home-made cookies! Yes, I know if they were here, I'd be having a fight with myself right now knowing that I shouldn't have any. But they still sound delicious!
Heidi, I'm so sorry to hear about the bull calf that didn't make it. It's a tough decision, but probably the best to sell the cow. I hope there will be no more problems this calving season!
Theresa, what an awful dream! I hope you never have one like it again! Can't say I ever got into hockey or really understand it. I hope your fingernails aren't bleeding from being chewed!
Rolanda, so sorry that the weather is heating up just before the March caravan trip! Snow has started here with 6 to 8 inches predicted by tomorrow night. Good luck to the car shoppers!
Victoria, you certainly had a busy weekend! Find your relaxation where you can! I hope all goes well with in-laws. Unfortunately, those who think they KNOW everything tend to be the ones who can't DO anything! All the best to your MIL and whatever decision she makes about her knee operation. As to rehab after, my doctor said I had to have at least 90* bend by 2 weeks, but I'm 25 plus years younger than your MIL and was determined to be able to play and run with my grandies. I suspect the requirements might be a bit different for someone who is 86.
Hmm, discussions about yummy cookies, fish and chips, no wonder I feel hungry! The discussions about new computers and laptops tempt me when the computer reacts so slowly.
Suzy, your Mum is amazing to be going home so quickly. Thinking all the best for her and glad to hear that she has good neighbors who will be able to check in on her!
It's nearly midnight. Having been up for almost 20 hours, I'm about to fall asleep at the keyboard. On top of that, CRAFT's has set in. All my best to everyone!

I agree with you there Broni. It's just plain rude.
I'm trying to loosen the apron strings. I just wish my MIL and my mother would loosen the apron strings a bit more. They both still worry about their children who are all over 40 (in MILs case the youngest is 56). I keep telling them that if you can't change/do something about a situation then there is no point in worrying yourself sick about it.
