Hi everyone. Just stopping in for a minute. Watching tv with hubby. I have not been around because my computer is still acting up and I can't keep taking Mitchell's. He bought it with his own money and I am trying to respect that. He is sleeping now and knows I am using it. I will have to buy a new computer, hope mine lasts until the summer. The hard drive is wearing out and that is why it keeps freezing up on me. I read the posts but don't remember most of what I read. Good wishes to all who need them. I will try to come back soon. I miss all my friends here.

I too would like to know the name of the book, MizT.
Hi Suzanne. Sorry to hear your aunt is still upset. Hopefully over time she'll come to realize her request was impossible for you to carry out.

hello to Broni, TTT (and bye TTT) and Theresa. Thanks for the sympathy & understanding on my Aunt Sandra. She doesn't realize that I have a lot of things to take care of if I was going to go to Florida. The thing is, there is a lot of family on the east coast (including my Uncle Tony's brother & sister & their families). This seems to fall on my mom & I because it is my mom's sister...

I really felt guilty last week when my mom went to Fort Lauderdale last week (she lives outside of Tampa). She & my dad are on fixed incomes. Sandra's health insurance would cover someone to come to her & take care of things for her for $15 an hour, BUT she wanted us to drop everything and she would've paid for our airline tickets ($800+) for either my mom or me to go there. Ok, is it just me, or does this make no sense to anyone else?

Suzanne, it's in our nature to feel guilty, but trust me, you have nothing to feel guilty about. Your aunt had other options that made much more sense. Perhaps when people are not well they make demands that they might not otherwise do. I'm sorry, I can't remember if you told us, but how old is your aunt?

It makes a little sense, Suzanne. She didn't want a stranger taking care of her.

Well, I think I'm going to see if I can get some sleep. It's a bit early for me, but I've been sitting at the computer for a long time today and my brain is mush and refuses to cooperate.
Good day/night to all.

Suzanne, sorry I was called away when you were still here. Hubby wanted me to join him in watching TV, and he does not often ask. Really enjoyed what we watched ton8ght, he has TV attached to computer and can call up programs. We saw a NOVA show, about the treasures of Tibet, very interesting.

The name of the book I just finished is " The story of Edgar Sawtelle" by David Wroblewski. It was a 2008 Ophah's Bookclub Selection. Set in north Wisconsin, area around Lake Superior

Off to bed, sleepy . Good maeN friends.

Just received from Rolanda via text msg - Very stormy here. Lots of heavy rain. Continuous thunder and lightening. Our gutters downpipes soakwells not coping, the road out front flooded, up to our front garden. No electricity. Thank goodness I have gas cooking. Hubby is home, boy still at Uni!

Suzanne, you were right, it is my sister. She is scheduled for surgery in the morning, to repair the three breaks in and around her ankle...when she does something, she does it well! She is in my thoughts, I hope she is able to sleep well tonight.

BTW (touching wood as I type) my headache has subsided...but you didn't hear that from me!

Suzanne's aunt is around 74 or 75.
Just stopping in quickly before school. Four more days until spring break. My best friend from high school is coming in for the week. She is staying with her brother who lives less than 5 minutes from me. We will be spending most of the week together. She has already told me that she is kidnapping me. Won't tell me where we are going, just that we are leaving wednesday morning and coming home thursday evening.

How exciting Tami! I love the sound of that! With your schedule you definitely deserve a break, and who better to have it with than your best friend from high school?

Suzanne's aunt is a reminder to all of us - when we are older we need to remember what it was like trying to balance everything and not expect the impossible from those around us. I understand why she wanted Suzanne rather than a strange nurse, but.....

I will try to remember to respond to everyone's posts tomorrow. This evening has been 'trying', as anyone who has/has had teenagers would understand, so my brain, although refusing to shut down, is also refusing to operate in a logical manner. I have read and had thoughts though....

Good Maen everyone. Sandra will be 74 in May. The thing that bothered me about the whole situation is that she's lived by herself since my uncle died in 1988...She's fiercely independent. I also understand why she wanted my mother or I to be there. She just assumed I could drop everything to stay there.

Gail: I'll keep your sister in my prayers.
MizT: The t.v. special about Tibet sounds interesting. I find myself watching the History International channel when I can't find anything on. A few weeks ago they did a show on the Taj Mahal. Very interesting. They're re-playing the show about the Titanic that I was trying to watch the other night, so I will watch it today.

Gail... PLEASE let us know how your sister's surgery goes. I know exactly what she's going through. Several years ago, I broke my leg/ ankle. One compound break and a lot of hairline fractures, as well as dislocating the ankle joint. The surgery was nasty because every time they tried to put a screw in, they'd hit another fracture. For the first month, I was confined to bed or a wheelchair. Crutches weren't allowed because I wasn't allowed to let the foot touch the ground, even to rest it. Once I was allowed to walk on it, I destroyed 4 walking casts. They told me they'd never seen anyone so hard on casts. Once I got the cast off, they told me that I didn't need PT, cause I was already so active on it.

Good morning, still no time to write comments. Also I am trying to keep away from computer today. I was sorting out photos last night and ended up with a bit of a head ache (unusual for me) so trying not to use my eyes too much today. I do not want to get another one today.
Still deciding where I will go to bowls.

Morning all!
Rolanda, glad to hear you have power back - I hope you didn't stay up waiting for it!! One day late to work would be okay wouldn't it? I saw a news article with photos this morning and you were one of the lucky ones!! Unless you want to call the kids who won't be able to go to school today the lucky ones...

Tami, sorry to hear about your poor computer. It sounds like all of your free time will be spent backing up stuff. Sigh.

Suzanne, If Sandra is still mad at you then she hasn't had time to think this through yet. Hopefully it won't be long until you are forgiven for having responsibilities and all will be well.

Heidi, you sound like my mother. She was supposed to be in hospital for 2 weeks including a week of rehab. Within 5 days she was already getting around as well as they had planned she would after the rehab was done. They sent her home...

MizT, Oprah should not recommend books with horrible endings! These days I don't read for enlightenment, I read for pleasure - no sucky endings please!

Gail, thinking of your sister today and I hope everything goes well for her.
Suzanne, your Aunt is still young but does sound unreasonable. I would also tell her that you or your parents do not have the money available for the airfare. Then she could either pay it or 'shut up'. Please do not feel guilty. (she is only a few years older than me)
Rolanda, pleased you did not get any damage from the storm. I hope the rain was welcome!

Msg this morning-
First cab off the rank. Should be about 8-9am.

It is now 8.36am...

Love you sis.
Thanks everybody.

Heidi, sounds very similar. She dislocated her ankle, so that had to be replaced first...twice (it redislocated in hosp!). Now is the surgery to fix the fractures, tibia, fibia and something else!

Gail... please warn her that it will take forever for the swelling to go down. It's been 2 1/2 years and my ankle is still swollen like a balloon. The other ankle is slim and trim.

Morning all.

Zusy, no I didnt stay up till the power went on. The front light went on and woke moi up.
No huge hail the size of golf balls here, just normal size ones and not much.
Very Windy, lots and lots of rain. my patio flooded, the road flooded, gutters overflowed all around the house, downpipes not coping, sand seeping up thru the brick paving which means the soak wells didnt cope. Lot of Thunder and Lightening, some vewy vewy close together!
Big Tree in the Park across the road, split.
Boy went home with his mate, left his ittle vroom vroom at Uni, roads flooded! The other child left work to go home around 7.30pm, took ages to get home, he rung us and said he arrived home safely.
The Electricity was out for around 8 hours, coming on again around 1.30am.

Was talking to my neighbour during a lull in the storm, We both moved into our new homes within 2 weeks of each other. This is the worst we have seen as far as flooding goes. Never have we seen the road flood in the 16 years we have been here.

Oh and there was a gorgeous sunset last night after the major storm had passed.

Must get my act together, I said I would visit Mum and have a cuppa with her this morning. She is not coming back to my house today. I am still too tired in the afternoons to handle having her at my place.
