Tami, my family lived in a two bedroom house. My parents have one, my two sisters and I had the other, and my brother slept out in the hallway (curtained off).

Julie, the rule at our place was also to come in when the street lights came on.

Thanks for all the stories everyone. It sure brought back a lot of memories.

It has been horribly dry here. The grass in the lawn and pastures has been crunching underfoot. I even had to feed some hay to the cows yesterday. Well, it is raining, and thundering right now!!!! All the drywall for the walls is inside the sunroom right now, so won't be damaged. But, boy, do we need this rain!!!

Memories! I had forgotten about the bedrooms! We also lived in a 2 bedroom house and I shared a tiny little room with my brothers. I think it was smaller than our bathroom is now! It fitted double bunks, a cot and a small cupboard. It didn't bother us though. We didn't do anything in there but sleep. I got my own room when I was 8 or 9 and was terrified at night.

MizT, your space story is amazing!!

Great news Heidi!!!

Hi My Friends.
Great stories, thank you.
Atari 64 computer.
My brother(3 years, 11 months and 26 days older than me) asking me to hang on to a live wire, couldn't count how many times I got caught out. He also used to have a couple of the old wooden wall phones you wound up, we would stand in a circle holding hands and everyone has the electrical current running through their arms.
2 bedroom house, when my Nan came to live with us I slept in the caravan and brother in the bungalow down the back.
Zusy vent!

Good early morning, fellow sudokuaholics!

My goodness, some of us lived in small houses or close quarters as we grew up, even sharing bedrooms. Many kids nowadays just don't think it's "fair" to need to share a bedroom.

Heidi, we also used a fingernail or other sharp object to "carve" the ice on the windows as it built up in the winter. WOO-HOO for your new sunroom and all the drywall keeping dry inside. I'm glad you're getting some rain for the outside, though. Are all of the dogs keeping calm?

Rolanda, I would gladly share some warmer temperatures with you if you would share some of your rain. How have you been feeling?

Broni, we had an Atari 64 when our children were younger. The games seem so primitive now!

Nearly 1:30 a.m. here, so I need to head to bed. Good Night, Everyone! Sending love, hugs and positive vibes to all!

Think my memory is failing me Julie, it may have been a commodore 64, no games just DOS based. Sleep well.
Rolanda, hope things warm up soon.

Vic 20, then Commodore 64! Back in time...

Mum, Dad and 6 kids in a three bedroom house, lots of bunks. At one stage, I shared the bedroom with my parents, but it was not a particularly good time in their relationship, towards the end as a matter of fact. As soon as an older sib moved out, Dad moved into her room.

I remember hearing about Commodore 64s but I don't think I've ever seen one...

I asked hubby and the first computer he ever used was an IBM Fastdraft. I was right about the first one he owned himself - 286.

Gravel on dirt roads!

I fell on one once and cut open my knee. Dad took me to the doctor (the hospital was over an hour away). Hmm, says the doc, I've run out of local anaesthetic, but if you and my wife hold her down... Needless to say I didn't get stitches. I had tape, a big bandage, and something that held my knee rigid - which is how I went to my very first day of school.

Okay, I'm just not enjoying this weather any more. The forecast has changed. It was supposed to be 29C with a 60 percent chance of rain ... now it's 31C with a 30 percent chance of rain. Humidex advisory in effect again. Hope to have an air conditioner tonight; hubby has found a place that is not sold out and will go after work to pick one up. Day 5.

BTW ... morning everyone.

Hubby took me for a drive last night in the car with air conditioning.

Theresa... Why do I think that if your husband was the one overheating, that you'd already have that A/C?

The drywall is up on the first wall already. That's easier than it sounds because there's very little wall. Two feet of wall below the windows, and narrow bits between the windows for structural integrity and load bearing. I decided on this type of structure instead of the greenhouse style sunroom because of all the straight line winds and tornados we have. Winds over 60 MPH are common here. Winds over 100 MPH occur regularly.

Good morning June and Heidi.

June, hope your trip was enjoyable. How did Laura do on the plane?

Heidi, to be fair to my hubby, I didn't tell him until Wednesday that I just couldn't take the heat. This is the first year that I've actually had problems breathing properly. He went to a few places on his lunch hour yesterday (all sold out) and phoned a bunch more. Finally found a place on the other end of the city that has a few left, so he'll be going there tonight after work. I do get cranky though because the heat doesn't bother him at all. How annoying is that???

Hubby is going to have supper on the run tonight as he is hunting down AC's. My SIL is having a night out with the boys (poker). He deserves it as he has been doing all the work at his house because of my daughter's condition. I will go to my daughter's tonight and we will have pizza ... girls' night. That's pizza twice in a month!!!

Heidi, those are strong winds that you get on a regular basis. Is your area prone to tornadoes?

Yikes Heidi! 60 MPH cause damage! I can't imagine 100 MPH!! I would say 60 MPH occur regularly here (as in my specific location), but not 100 MPH!!

Yes, this area is prone to tornadoes. I actually had to curl up on the ground once when one went right over the top of me. I don't care to experience that again. (BTW... the Magnolia tornado siren went off 1/2 hour AFTER the tornado hit!)

Suzy... by regularly, I mean at least once a year. I don't think I could handle 100 MPH winds more frequently. But they do have the advantage of trashing trailer homes around here. Sort of Mother Nature upgrading the neighborhood.

I didn't get much sleep last night. The dogs were freaking a bit from all the thunderboomers. I tranked 2 of them, but they all were a little nervous, and wanted comforting.

Heidi!!!!! Um ah!!

Our new little kitty doesn't like loud noises. We haven't had a thunderstorm since she joined us, but if I take her outside and a loud car goes past or a helicopter goes over she starts to shake. I think the caffeine in the cappuccino I had at Pride reheasal is starting to wear off. Hopefully I will sleep tonight....

Hallelujah ... I hear thunder in the distance. Could it be?

Just came back from neighbour's place to make sure she was okay. They are the ones who loaned my daughter the wheelchair. She was sitting outside and I thought maybe her hubby had gone out for a while, so I was going to help her get in because of the dark clouds rolling in. Her hubby was sitting beside her, but was blocked by their verandah railing. So they didn't need me, but were thankful that I was keeping an eye on them. That's what neighbours are for.

Just before that I got my daughter and grandies' lunch started. They are having corn on the cob and cold cuts, so I cleaned off the corn and got it boiling. Put away her dishes, took the dog out, fed the dog and gave her fresh water, fed the cats and gave them fresh water, gave one cat his medication, gave my grandie her medication, rinsed the dirty dishes for the next load in the dishwasher, took out the garbage, took out the recycling. I don't mind going there because they have air conditioning, so I really dawdle with all the little chores. (Tee hee, there is method to my madness, or is it madness to my method?)

Well, I think I will soon shut down the computer. Please let it storm.

OH NO, it's starting to clear up. Wait storm clouds, come back. I said this even though I do not like storms. This is the 5th day of the heat wave, so I have a feeling if we do get a storm it will be a doozie. Will be hiding on the stairs if so ..... I'm such a wimp.

Hello, so nice to be here. Doesn't look like anyone else is around though. I hope everyone is well. All is good here. Chelsea(my niece) is here for the summer again. It's going to be hot here today. Good thing because I promised we would go to the beach. We are finally getting some summer weather here, but it looks like it will be cooler next week. I guess I should get busy so we can get to the beach. Take care everyone.

Hello all...nice to see you here Rena.
I had good intentions of getting back here the other day but..
Loved all the old memories we have.
Growing up, we had an outside toilet and I remember a girlfriend stay once and she was petrified of going out in the dark.We used candles (no lights out there). We had a white cockatoo who said "hello" and my girlfriend came rushing out screaming.I thought it a huge joke.
I'm glad everyone seems OK,stay cool up top, warm down south.
Catch you another day.

The walls are up, now!!! Starting Monday morning, they'll start with the tape and mud, filling in all the seams. Then trim around windows, installing electrical outlets and light fixtures, then paint.

Nola, I wonder if your girlfriend ever forgave you?! That was hilarious!!

Theresa, I know exactly how you felt when the storm clouds rolled away. I have had that feeling! I laughed at your description of all of the little chores you did so you could stay in the air conditionning!

Big day here today - Ally's birthday party. Yikes! I hope someone shows up! The whole invite thing was done via text message... Weird. The good news is that the sky is clearing so she will be able to have the fire outside that she wants and toast marshmallows.

We have run out of wood for our fire and can't get a delivery until next week. Hubby could spend the day down the back of our property collecting some, but it would all be soaked anyway after the rain so I decided to buy some wood from a petrol station. I checked out the bundles they had and decided the 30kg bundle was the best value. When I went inside I said 'I'm trying to decide whether to get 30 or 60 kilos.' 'We don't carry 60 kilos' says the guy behind the counter..... I didn't laugh at him, it was hard, but I didn't laugh.

I have the best friends on the planet! Yesterday was a bit rough here, I was a little teary and didn't want to go to our usual coffee meeting in case I cried in public, so I called them and cancelled. They got takeaway coffee and brought it to me!! I felt so much better after they left.

Morning Rolanda and Broni,
I agree about not having to rush anywhere... I have had a lovely quiet morning. Unfortunately my peace is over. Ally has a performance with Pride this morning, only a short one, and then we have a party to get ready for. Ally is having to rush because I woke her up and then went to have my shower. When I went back she had fallen asleep again!

Evening Sudokuland. I slept in very late today and it has me totally off schedule. did a few chores, paid some bills, and flung some food.

Hubby is coming in now as I type to eat what I flung. I will try to get back later, hugs to all.
