Broni, I keep forgetting to bookmark Julie's, but have found if you substitute 'everychildcan' for the autism bit in the address, you can get there. I have also searched for it and found it that way. Sorry I couldn't give you the link..

June, glad to hear you both slept well. It makes the whole day much better! That swimming complex sounds like the Bay and Basin one down here. The girls took a bus from school to have lessons down there. It is a long way if you just want a fun swim though.

Tami, that sounds like a good beginning to the year. I hope it is a good omen!!

Judy, my cousin wants me to help her trace parts of our family. It is hard as we need to go to Hungary (at least on line) and neither of us speak or read Hungarian. There is no one left in the family who is fluent in the "mother tongue". Also, we lost a lot of family in the holocaust so it might be hard to trace.

Judy, how could you think that was weird when you see how this place gets??

Tami, my ex-boyfriend lost his maternal grandparents in the holocaust. His mother and uncle were shoved under a table and hidden when the Nazi's came, and then smuggled out. They never saw their parents again. I think my ex said his mother was 4.

A lot of people went through that. To the best of my family's knowledge, my father's father was the only survivor. My grandfather was already in America and after the war could not locate anyone in his family.

It's horrific to think about. Around about that time in my life I bought the book Sophie's Choice. I didn't know what it was about but had heard that it was good. It felt like a weird coincidence when I realised what it was about. Even back then when I was young and not a mother her version of insanity made perfect sense to me once I learned what her choice was.

Suzy ... :D

Tami, there are quite a few sites dedicated to Jewish family research, and there may be people there who could help with translation.

I have quite a lot of Jewish ancestors, but most of them went to England generations ago, so missed all the horrors. Then some came to Australia, and their descendants are still here. I had to laugh about hubby's grandmother, who was SO proud of her family's First Fleet ancestor (a marine on one of the convict ships) and totally failed to find ANY info on his wife, who just "appeared" in Australia ... not only a convict, but a JEWISH convict! and quite an "interesting" character. But there it is - she raised a family here and they all did well - one of her grandsons became Lord Mayor of a Sydney suburb ... :D

Night everyone. Need my beauty sleep if I don't want to scare all the little kiddies tomorrow. Will be back tomorrow night to let everyone know how the first day went. This is my seventh year teaching and I think it is going to be a "lucky 7." I guess time will tell.

Good afternoon all.
Firstly - big hugs and good thoughts to June, Laura and their 'friend' - always on my mind even if I'm not always around here.
Judy - did you say you were coming to Qld??
Heidi - You'll have a great time with Linda and her hubby, whose name escapes me, but I remember him as having a good sense of humour and a typical down-to-earth Aussie. I'm so jealous of them - one day I want to get to Surreal Farm.

I have been voting as often as I can too.
Suzy - what makes you want to swear??
Oh, and 'Sophie's Choice' - I saw that when my kids were very little. I was so distressed by that for such a long time - I have never been able to watch the movie again.

Good Evening, Everybody! I hope you are all well and rested and happy!

Hi, Heidi, Theresa and V Viv (from page 315)!

We have had 3 long, tiring, but also invigorating days of demonstrations, classes and discussions about turning wood. We enjoyed it tremendously, won a couple of raffles, bought a turning tool and some abrasives for sanding, and bought a donated piece in the auction. Proceeds go to our club's education fund. An update on the Freedom Pens/Pens for Troops effort: at our club meeting Aug. 10 it was announced we had turned 700 pens. At the banquet last night (and following a couple hours of open lathe pen turning Friday night) that number had risen to over 850.

Heidi, thanks for the description of the banquet and the way you were dressed. Best of all was your description of IH's reaction when he received the bill for your dinners! Aren't you glad you decided to go with him?

I like your avatar, Theresa! I hope your daughter is doing well! Sending {{{{HUGS}}}} and positive thoughts and prayers her way!

V Viv, you have also had a wonderful banquet, it seems! Thank you for posting pictures! Congrats for doing so well with your Avon! I don't get to Easy often enough to know anything about The Phantom, so I'm not sure if I should take it as a compliment or just observation.

On to page 316 soon, I hope!

We had a great time! The Oak Ridge Boys really rocked. I was surprised at their new songs... much more rock and roll, with a touch of metal! Part of the show was recorded for the Jerry Lewis Telethon.

Julie.... It was an interesting evening with IH. Before we left, I let him know that I was carrying no money. I've dealt with him too many times. Then more than half way to the banquet, he discovered that he'd forgotten the directions to get there. We had to make several phone calls to find out where to go. When we got there, we were told that we had no reservation. They tracked down the person in charge of the event who told them that we did have a reservation, and personally escorted us to the table. But the highlight was the bill. I loved the look of shock on IH's face.

Finally back to read page 316 - Hi, V Viv, Suzy, MizTricia, Gail, Heidi, Brenda, Broni, Mamacita, MizTricia, Theresa, Judy, Rolanda, Tam the Troublemaker, and June!

Gail, thank you for the update on Becky! Becky, we'd love to have you come back when you can! So sorry to hear that things are still tough!

Heidi, that's a great picture of you! I hope you don't remove it soon!

Brenda, YAY for being away from home on holiday in the caravan! BOO for the less than wonderful weather! Oh, well, I hope you have a wonderful time anyway!

Broni, wondering how you have been feeling - and hoping the new system at work is now working and making life easier for you!

As always, Mamacita, it's a pleasure to have you visit and post a comment! I hope your headaches are greatly improved!

June, I'm glad you and Laura were able to have a discussion of fears! Did she bring up the topic herself? If she is able to talk about them, she's quite a mature young lady! Perhaps she takes after her very loving and responsible grandmother!

Good afternoon everybody...
Just passing thru... no news is good news...or so they say... or that is what I am telling myself!
Beanville is still a shamozzle but I am adapting to my lot... wish I could say it was with more grace but I'm not much good at anything other than the blunt truth.

There are some very good things happening in my life tho... love the singing.. we had our 2nd public engagement last week LOL We went along to an old peoples home and sang for them. At the end they had a request.. Edelweiss... we tried but stuffed up the words and dissolved into laughter... Quite a few of the residents were singing along with us and the staff commented on hour much less agitated those suffering with dementia were.

Lachie's first day at trade school today. He wasn't looking forward to it. He figured that after 13 yrs at school he shouldn't have to return... LOL He does enjoy the work in the bakery. We were talking about quiches the other day and different types of pastry and how they make it etc. That night he came home with a couple of savoury quiches for me. No, they weren't left over, he made two extra especially for me. Delicious but not not good for the expanding waisteline..

Must go... stuff to do before singing tonight..glad I popped in and caught the reference to Heidi's photo..good one Hi-d-ho LOL

Evening all!
Tami, good luck on your first day! I hope it is your lucky year!!

Cyn, I’ve never seen the movie Sophie’s Choice, only read the book. It ripped my heart out in my 20s, I couldn’t imagine what it would do when I was older and a mum! I am just starting to have to deal with taking glasses with my wherever I go. It’s very depressing…

Julie, 850 pens is truly amazing, especially considering the amount of time and work that goes into each one. Kudos to your club!! I’m glad you enjoyed the 3 days.

Heidi, the concert sounds like it was great! You’ll have to watch the Jerry Lewis telethon to revisit the experience…

Rolanda, I’m glad the birthday celebrations were so nice. Sending thoughts and wishes for your mum’s continued recovery!!

Bean, Congrats on your second gig!! I tell Ally that the most important singing she does is at the retirement home. It makes a difference in the lives of the residents. Ebob is doing one of her classes at TAFE (cert III nursing) and loves it. She says she wishes she could do all of her classes there. I hope Lachie has the same experience at trade school.

Hi All,
Have read but not commented.
Julie I am doing good considering, they keep on changing the goal posts at work daily but am old and wise enough(hehe) to take it in my stride.
Still have too many people living here which restricts my own time (yes I know my fault I should make time for what I want to do!)
Love and Hugs to you all.
Who was coming up to Brissy and haven't let us know, grrrr! Get on your bike girl!!!

A busy evening, had a chat to Broni, made a big pot of soup, some spag bog sauce which I have frozen for a quick meal, started to watch TV and then a phone chat with a friend and pinned some more of the aprons for Belinda. I guess I will go off to bed soon.
The best part was that Laura's Dad came and picked her up and I did not have to drive her home. At that stage I just felt too tired to get in the car. Laura will be in daycare tomorrow but I will bring her back here tomorrow night. She wants to be asleep in Pa's side of the bed when he gets home early on Wednesday morning (the plane lands just after 5am.)

Nice to see you Bean. So pleased you are getting so much pleasure from your singing.
I have been voting when I get a chance but it only seems to be once or twice a day.
Thank you all for the hugs. I wish to return them tenfold as they do mean so much to me at this time. The latest Chemo is really taking quite a toll on my friend. We just pray that this one does something to the cancer, not just make her so sick.

Good Morning Sudokuland! T0oday the dew ppoint is below 70, getting back to our normal humid weather, not the super humid we have had. No condensation on the windows today, I thought it would be better. forecast is for some " drier" weather, that will keep the heat index down some. About time!

JUNE, [[[[[[[[[HUGE HUGS ]]]]]]]]] to your friend with the chemo sick. Sending feel better wishes to her. More hugs to you, for being such a support for her, blessings to you both. Praying this chemo does rid her of the cancer.

Suzy, I need to be "mov'n rndots" today, I have stuff to do and it is not getting done while I am Velcroed to this chair.

BEAN, good to see you, hope you can drop in more often, we miss you when you are AWOL. The singing sounds fun, glad you are enjoying it.

Rolanda, your Mum is now home alone? I hope that goes well with her. Enjoy your nap, you deserve it.

Coffee cup is empty, need to remedy that and browse for breakfast. Hugs to all and extras. Till later.

Big hugs to you June. Think about you often and your friend and her chemo.

I chat to my friend that is having chemo every other day... [I really need to contribute to her phone bill - she's interstate ].. I leave it to her to ring because she knows when she feels like chatting. I seem to chat to her most days after she has had chemo and I am concerned for her and her family. For everyone fighting this battle.

I think the support you extend to your friend is ... I can't think of the word...like you.. quite amazing.
