Morning all,
Theresa, Doctors hate self diagnosis, they pull faces. It is so lucky that you saw that TV show...
We had a large yellow ball when I woke up, which surprised me because the forecast is for storms, but it has gone already..
Heidi, perhaps you should have let Gil pay for the mechanic to tell him about the PTO, he would not only be poorer, he'd look foolish.
Julie, your trip home sounds horrendous. I have had a couple of similar ones, both times I didn't make it home until the next day, but ended up staying with family or friends, one was floods, the other serious winds blowing down trees which blocked roads..

I just hate it when IH bad mouths that tractor. I HAD to prove to him myself that she's good and reliable, and he doesn't know what he's talking about. I still love that tractor dearly, and miss her. The only reason I sold it was because Don and Barb needed a good tractor with very specific qualifications ( a super compact with a lot of power for it's size, 4WD, front end loader, reliable, easy to service and with a low price tag.) I am very fond of them so I sold them my little tractor for a much lower than blue book price. And I can borrow her if I ever need her. But Robert is NOT happy that I sold her. He loved to drive her, too.

And Gil would NOT have paid the mechanic. The mechanics house call would have been billed to Don.

Time for me to have a panic attack (not making light of your serious situation Theresa). So much to do in the next few weeks. I have to have both the spare bedrooms cleared plus a lot of other things put away AND finish all the cards and presents. I have done quite a bit of gninori this morning and the sloshy thing is on.

That's a shame Heidi because he would have looked really really foolish both for not knowing what was wrong and not double checking when you told him.

June, I don't take exception to comments about panic attacks. Thank goodness mine are not stress-related or I'd be having one every day! Several times a day even!
Yes, it's the time of year to get all stressed out, all for one day or even one hour later this month. I too have to get a move on with shopping, etc. I'm going to be making cookies with the grandies once they are finished school before Christmas.
Time to fling food.

Good morning all
Heidi - I'm pleased the epidural seems to have been a good one. And, yes, the satisfaction of knowing you were right is wonderful! How nice of you to sell them your beloved tractor. ('Beloved tractor'? Does that sound right? Inanimate object!)
Theresa - my husband was off work for 7 months due to misdiagnosis. In his case, he's a smoker - which, of course, is the root of all evil. He had heart tests - nothing, Lung specialist - lungs of a 21 yo despite the nasty habit. They tried everything liver, kidney, intestine etc. His symptoms were those of Chronic Fatigue. Even sent him to a psychiatrist who said he was borderline depressed - well who wouldn't be after months off working in your own business and losing money. Eventually gave up, went to a homeopath, was diagnosed with a combination of Glandular, Ross River and Q fevers - all of which produce symptoms like Chronic Fatigue. 3 days (3 DAYS) - spray under his tongue, in pain or sleeping. Woke up on the 4th day - fit as a fiddle. Hasn't looked back for 7 years. Doc's didn't believe him! We have lost faith in them.

Cyn, a naturopath fixed me once too, I had lower abdominal pain and had 2 docs say they couldn't help me. A change in diet and a couple of months and I was fit as a fiddle.

CynB... The Native Americans believed that anything made for a purpose is alive. I have seen some very definite personalities in so-called inanimate objects. That little tractor is game. It has no quit in it. It's developed quite a fan club in the neighborhood.

SUZY, I know I am late replying to messages, but I hope by now your Brother's health problems have been sorted out. Thinking of him and you and your families. Yes, there is a cause for pain, and it should be checked out. I thought that was what ER did.
Brenda, I had not known there was so much snow in England countryside. I do hope roads are cleared soon and airports opened again.
Julie, what a horror getting home was for you. Nine thirty is late to be cooking dinner, sorry you had to do that.
Heidi, what you gonna do to entertain yourself while you take it easy? SNOW again, this is unusual for you this early isn't it? Glad you are doing better today.
Theresa, we had that bright yellow globe all day today, a nice sunny day but windy again and a cold wind chill. If you could stay in the sun and out of the wind it was nice, temp went to mid 50's.
Theresa, I have the same kind of panic attacks, my doc calls them adrenaline dumps, since I would not accept the term panic attacks, I am not afraid of anything when they happen! Never have found out why, but one of my meds for BP does help keep them in check. OH, have you ever had your blood sugar checked during one of the attacks? Mine was very high the one time I happened to have an attack while in the doctor's waiting room. They checked for all kinds of things. Said my heart rate was too fast to count until I calmed myself down a bit, she could could it when it slowed to 200!
That's page 452, I shall post fore I loose this, then it is food flinging time again.I hope to be back later. Hugs to each of you with extras.

I just spoke to my brother. He is doing well. Apparently he has had chest pains in the past, gone to his GP, who took his blood pressure and said everything was fine, but he always wondered. Well, in emergency he told his doc about Dad and me, and she did every test possible and has scheduled a stress test for next week. Everythng so far has come back clear so they think it might be muscular. He sounds very relaxed about it all and even made a joke that everyone else was getting too much attention. His 20 year old daughter just had surgery for varicose veins - can you believe it??

Hi everyone.
I have read the posts but can not remember too much of it.
Suzy, glad your brother mentioned you and your dad. At least the doctor was aware of family history.
Brenda, hope you are not snowed in. I didn't realize that you got that much snow in England.
Heidi, hope you find an enjoyable way to spend the next few days. I agree, you should have let IH call a mechanic. It would have taught him a lesson. Maybe not, but it would have been embarrassing in front of his cousin

The mechanic knows how mechanically incompetent IH is. And it wouldn't teach IH anything. He keeps doing this sort of thing. Like last month when he threw a fit that his truck wouldn't start, and was throwing things around the house while looking for the mechanic's number. I told him to stop it, and go put the shift lever in park. He glared at me and refused, so I dragged him outside, gave the shift lever a nudge and ordered him to turn the key. The truck started. HE DOESN"T LEARN!!!

Today has been a busy day, I had errands to run, after doing all the medical stuff for AL and his meals, you know. I missed having my driver today, he just did not think he was up to all the stops and shopping I had to do today, even if he stayed in the car. He still tires very easily, that was a big bad infection he had and a LOT of being put to sleep.
I went to post office to mail bills, to water authority to pay water bill, to court house to pay property tax, to the dollar store for some baggies, and to Wal mart for a few things. That plus an hour drive each way, no wonder I am tired! Already a lot of traffic in any shopping area, no parking places, lots of people in stores, and this is the first of December. It will get worse. Did I mention I hate to shop?
If you have a weak stomach, skip this paragraph. We had been smelling something dead for about a week, really bad on warm days. Our friend and handyman Terry came over today and he discovered and removed the cause. There was a dead dog under our house! Not sure what happened to it, but it hid under out house in the darkest lowest spot and died. Terry removed it. NO more smell now!
OK, you can look again!! Time for bed, sending good thoughts and wishes to all, with hugs.

Good Evening, Sudoku Friends! (I'm starting my reading on page 452 tonight.)
Hi, Judy, Theresa, Heidi, Tami, Gail, Rolanda, CynB, Suzy, Vicki, Brenda, June and MizTricia!
Heidi, I hope you and your back are feeling better today!
Rolanda, I hope the C dinner was fun! Thanks for updating us about Brenda's niece! I find it hard to keep track of the bush fires from here.
The discussion of fruit had me salivating, though the discussion of bill soon put a stop to it. Apples are very much in season here, and some of the citrus is looking (and priced) a bit better.
Vicki, between getting your eyes tested this week and having a dental appointment next week, you'll be having a bit of "chair time!" I hope all of the examinations go well!
Suzy, I'll be sending positive thoughts and prayers for your brother! Yep, we hope the doctors and their tests are right! {{{{{HUGS}}}}} to you and to him! I hope Ally is feeling better!
Brenda, what a relief that you ren't getting as much snow as other parts of the country! Hopefully, it's not impacting Richard's commute too much!
Heidi, good for you for "fixing" the tractor! Gloat away, my dear! I hope you're feeling better, and hope the snow doesn't stick and make things slippery!
Theresa, isn't it amazing what a "lay" person can do when they don't start a diagnosis with a pre-conceived opinion? Good for you for figuring out your panic attacks!
June and Suzy, I truly understand your concern about the time slipping away! Christmas is in 3 weeks and I haven't even started working on cards. The only Christmas gifts purchased are the ones for grandies, which will be sent directly to their home. I'm wondering when anything will get done.
Suzy, I'm so glad that your brother mentioned family history when at the hospital! I've never heard of a 20-year-old having surgery for varicose veins!
Heidi, do you think IH will EVER learn? My guess is that his cousin may already know how incompetent he is! I suspect many of the people around him may know, as well! At least your little tractor is close by and available if needed!
Theresa, I hope you and your grandie are doing well!
Suzy, what does the Oxford dictionary know about Pavlovas? I agree with what Heidi said!

MizT, I hope you get a good night's sleep tonight! You deserve it after your very busy day! I'm glad the cause of the odor was found and removed! That should make your days and nights more pleasant! I've also noticed here that parking lots are getting packed, noticed particularly around WalMart, TJMaxx, HomeGoods, etc. - even the grocery stores. Hubby and I are not much for shopping, either, so we don't know how crowded the insides of the stores are.
I need to call it a night here. I hope each of you has a good afternoon/evening/night! Sending much
{{{{HUGS}}}}, positive thoughts and prayers for all, whether you feel a need or not! Good Night!

The funny thing about my niece is that when I asked her about the veins in someone so young she said they told her it was usually genetic. I asked if there was a family history, and she said 'not on Mum's side of the family'. I immediately thought about everyone on my side - forgetting that she is actually my brother's step daughter. He is Dad, sperm donor has never been around.

Question: A friend of mine has had to start looking into retirement homes for her mother. Her brother lives in Sydney and has been doing the initial running around. He had told her that for temporary placements you can pay by the day but for permanent placement she will have to come up with $300,000 security. That doesn't make any sense to me as it means nobody who rents can ever go into a nursing home. Does anyone else know more???

She also will have to assessed by the Aged Care Assessment Team before she goes into any 'nursing home'!

Hi all, woke up this morning temps of -3c to find that the heating wasn't working. I knew what was wrong and how to fix it. I had to get D#1 up early as I cannot climb out of the landing window onto the garage roof to pour boiling water over the pipe which vents the condensing boiler. With the freezing temps we have been having lately the vent, which drips water from the boiler, gets a plug of ice in the end and the water backs up and puts the boiler out. If it happens through the day I can hear the change in the noise of the boiler, but this must have happened over night. Everything is working overtime now to get the house back to a nice temp.

To answer those who asked about the snow in England.
When I was young (many many moons ago) we used to have a lot of snow every year. I lived up north then, southern counties never got as much snow. Then for many years we were lucky just to get a little snow until a few years back when we started getting one or two days of maybe 2 inches of snow, the country just ground to a halt people couldn't deal with it. They all expect the councils to clear every pavement and every side road which they cannot possibly do. This year has been bad, we had deep snow in parts of the country in Jan/Feb and now again in Nov. Where I live we have missed out on the major falls of snow. We have a very thin covering but other parts of the country have up to 3FT and really low temps which means lots of ice.
Again the country has ground to a halt and there is chaos on the rail networks and roads in the badly affected areas.

Suzy we would have managed to heat the main rooms of the house. We have a couple of electric radiators, one calor gas heater and an electric fire. Biggest problem would have been hot water, but again not too much of a problem as we have an electric shower.
We will have to check that outlet pipe morning and night now as this is the third time this week it has frozen. The first time Richard used the ladder to get onto the garage roof. The second time would have been dangerous as the ground outside is icy and it was dark. Richard got out of the landing window. I wish I had had a camera to film it. He isn't as supple as he once was.The window is quite high up on a half landing so is difficult to climb out, if it had been an inch smaller Richard would have been stuck. Elaine is very supple and it only took her a few minutes to sort the problem out, then I had to reset the boiler.

Several years ago someone gave me a Santa Claus figure that counts down the days until Christmas. They did not realize that I celebrate Chanukah. I put it out every year the day we come back from Thanksgiving. I use it to count down how many school days until Chirstmas Break. Today I get to move it to "10" I don't count today.
