It is COLD outside, with intermittent flurries. A good day to sit inside and stay warm. Maybe I'll even play with the sloshy thing. I could use some clean clothes.

MizT, the flu that I had sounded like the M3N2 virus strain going around this year - my fault for not getting the flu shot. The flu my daughter's entire family had was something else - they all did get the flu shot. They had fever, vomiting, diarrhea and a cough.

E-card has been sent to Al. Thinking of you and Al - how tired you must be getting MizT. {{{HUGS}}} ♥♥♥♥♥

I just added ONE picture to my page. It's of the 4 baby Lovebirds I just bought. They will be much more intensely colored in a few months.... They'll look just like this avatar! We're still waiting for an opening in the weather to ship them. It'll have to be above 40℉ / 4.4℃ for 2 days before we can risk it.

I'm back on MizT's sisters mailing list for updates. This way I can keep everyone up-to-date without MizT having to worry about it.

Here is an update from MizT's sister from this morning....

Talked with Tricia (who is at home) this morning and also talked with Al at the hospital. He sounds good. The doctor came in last night and said he would be home in 2 days if blood cultures are negative, and be ready to take radiation and chemo again next week. That is good news. The heart monitor was taken off yesterday after the doctor came in because his heart rate has not been elevated like last time he was in the hospital. Al said he slept 'as well as they'd let him' last night. It's hard to get a good night's sleep with them coming in & checking on him all the time. He's hoping to get on home soon.

Tricia went home late yesterday afternoon. She was exhausted. Joy stayed with her dad at the hospital last night & will stay today, too. Sure am glad that Joy is here to help Al & Tricia out right now. Someone to relieve Tricia at the hospital is a real big help. Hopefully he'll be OK with staying alone tonight so Joy can get a good night's sleep. Tricia seemed very tired still when I talked to her this morning & didn't sleep too well last night at home. She was going back to bed after we talked to hopefully sleep some more today.

The snow & ice are gone from Shelby County (where they are), but I'm still iced in. Sun is shining today so maybe our driveway will clear off today and I can go help if needed. Tricia said their roads were clear on the way home yesterday, only a mud puddle at the end of their dirt road where it enters the highway. It will be ice this morning with the temperature at about 20 in Birmingham. May not thaw today, since the temp is predicted to not get over freezing & even colder the next two nights. When she does go back to hospital, she should not have any road problems except for that spot. Sure glad they got Al to the hospital before the roads got bad on Sunday night.

I'll let you all know if/when I hear anything more.

There is a little confusion about Al's room number. MizT said that it's 122, and her sister told me it's 132. I've asked her sister to double check it for me. There's always a chance that MizT mis-typed it in her stress and exhaustion.

The form you fill out for the e-card says room number, if known. I put 122, but hopefully it will get directed to the right room if his name is on it.

Spending the day contacting people who said I could use their names as references. So far 2 out of 3 have given me their approval - also gave me a chance to catch up on things in their lives.

My daughter just called ---- HER SURGERY DATE IS FEBRUARY 24. Yes, I'm shouting. So she hopes to be back on her feet by the end of June. I still have to look for work though because they need help NOW and the surgery date is still more than a month away. Finally we see a light at the end of the tunnel.

I think I would like MizTs sister as much as I like MizT, she sounds lovely.

I also sent the ecard to room 122, but think it will get there regardless.

I really need to cut my nails off, typing is getting difficult. It's so nice to have long nails though.

Good afternoon everyone. It is nice to hear a little good news for a change.
Theresa's daughter has her surgery scheduled.
Al is coming home.
The water was not as high as anticipated. It is still a major tragedy and I am not making light of it. My thoughts have been in Australia all day. I can check the news from school. Suzy, thank you for the website of Aussie news.

It is great news about the water levels. It was put in perspective for me though when I read - hundreds of houses have been saved due to the reduced levels, and later, thousands have been inundated

Tami, I too check the website Suzy gave us. I have saved it as one of my "Favourites". I have seen videos where only the roofs of houses are showing through the water, and the loss of life is so sad. It will take a long time before things go back to normal. My heart goes out to all affected, and all those who have family or friends in the area. It makes us feel so helpless.

Good Morning all!
Yippee! What great news Theresa. That must give you so much heart. It must be such a relief to know that finally your daughter's op has been scheduled.
I'm glad to hear that Al is on his way home to MizT. Great news for them.
I can't contact my mother. The phone lines are just congested. The flood levels in Ipswich were lower than expected so I know the house is ok. I just wish I could chat to her and let her know that we are all thinking of her.
I will be heading up to see her as soon as the roads are open again (hopefully on the weekend) with big bunches of flowers and choccies for Karen and her family and also the lovely family that they were billeted with.

That site has video of Kevin Rudd helping people move stuff. He'd been there an hour before the reporters found him. That has to help pick up spirits even if you didn't vote for him

yeah, Heidi, blame the room number thing on me, just cause I cannot dial a phone correctly hehehe

He had to move rooms, so he had been in each. My sister and I are both right. No hot water in the bathroom. Rooms are just across hall from each other, think they could figure it out, but . . . . since he is coming home, he should get the cards to him. FUN mail for AL, he grins like the little boy he was. Just got a text saying he is waiting on transportation

Such a wind chill factor, into single digets, cooling my house, furnace not keeping up. I had to light the kerosene heater to keep this warm enough for AL. joys of an older house, but hey, it is paid for.

Good news again. I've just heard from Karen (the neighbour) and she says they are all fine. They will take Mum home this afternoon. There is water and power to their houses and the flood water was about 8 metres behind the houses across the street.
The flood water is dropping rapidly in Ipswich so now I just have to wait until the water on the motorway drops.

Vicki, more good news! A good news day in the middle of horrilbe stuff...

i just went shopping and the signs say customers have already donated more than 2 million at the registers, and I bought a sausage sandwich I didn't want or need at Officeworks because they were selling them with all funds going to the flood fund.

I am a baaaaad girl. I've just arranged to buy another pair of Lovebirds. These are also youngsters, but of a rare color. They're Violet Peach-Faced Lovebirds. It'll be a couple of weeks before I get them, because of the weather. Picture on my page.

Heidi, well Duh, you sent the cold air that made the snow, and Tami assures me she had no part in it, gotta be you. Teresa is good but could not push it down to me. Besides, I know the difference in Canadian frigid air and Kentucky Cold air. ours is just cold. So there.

SUZY, how wonderful so much has been raised. I am sure Australians would be proud to help anyone in need.

Vici, glad Karen has checked in. I know all her family and friends are relieved.

We are getting such short news bites from there, 30 second or less, on network channels. Once i have rested, I shall surf the net.

Joy and I had a good chin wag over iced tea this afternoon. She is such a wit, and so smart and a female version of her Dad. no wonder I like her, you know?
