Thank goodness for phones that record videos or we wouldn't get to see these acts of heroism. It will probably take me an hour to download it but I'm going to do it!

Even Tasmania has had flash flooding today - can't find the link now - saw it on FB.
MizT - Glad Al's coming home today, unfortunately I didn't get to send him an eCard - you're both in my thoughts.
Theresa - I am so pleased and relieved for you that your daughter's surgery has finally been scheduled.
Vicki - such good news that you've heard from your Mum, You will be looking forward to seeing her asap.

Have been able to finally get more news of my brother and the members of his family stranded with him. They finally have power but intermittent phone contact, however his daughter who lives 2 doors away has been easily able to post on Facebook today. Their entire community plus evacuees, numbering 365 are amassed in the houses high enough to stay safe and dry. My brother is, typically for him, the community co-ordinator and they are waiting for a helicopter food drop. They will be amongst the last out because of being beside the dam spillway and with the river between them and civilisation, they are there for the duration. Just happy to know he's safe.

Hello my friends.
Re-posting this from Easy
Well, as said before the flood peak today was less than expected but greater than yesterday and the devastation is enormous, way too much to comprehend for someone who is high and dry and as CP said can depress you quite easily. Still have at least another day before the water level starts dropping and some communties are still at risk. The greater part of Brisbane is still without power and may be for some time yet.
Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes, we will survive...Aussie, Aussie, Aussie...Oi, Oi, Oi!

Great to hear some good news on site. Theresa, MizT and Al, Vicki and Cyn...I am happy for all of you. More good news I have heard from my family and friends and all is good for them.
Have not read about the flooding in SA as I went to work today, amazing there was no sign of flooding just a lot of pontoons with boats still attached and part of a restaurant moored up in the side passage of Brisbane River.

Hi, fellow Sudokuaholics! It's after 1 a.m. and the day has slipped away from me. Now I have 4 pages to read, but will try to make it through one. On to page 502!
Hi, Broni, Theresa, Suzy, CynB, June, V Viv, Vicki, Gail, Tami, Brenda, Ann and Heidi!
The devastation from the flooding is so widespread. It is so difficult to comprehend the extent! Prayers for all involved in either the flooding or the bushfires!
I'm too tired to go beyond page 502! I can't even focus enough to do any kind of a summary! Suffice it to say that so far it seems that most of our Sudoku friends and their families are all right. The flooding is preventing some from working - but causing others to work. It's a bit of a surreal feeling to go into a store and find it well stocked while knowing that in other areas, they have been stripped of nearly everything, not always due to need, but possibly some hoarding. Theresa and Heidi were still getting snow, but reports just indicated that MizT's part of Alabama wasn't, though it was cold! Heidi couldn't reach MizT by phone. My prayers are with all of you, but I don't have the energy to continue reading. I'll try to get caught up tomorrow, but have a long acupuncture appointment. I also have a LOT of updating of the club's database. Nearly 40 members paid dues Tuesday night, and people are getting anxious to receive their membership cards. No rest for the weary - at least for a while.
{{{{{HUGS}}}}} to everyone! Good Night!

Good morning all, I had a traveling day yesterday taking youngest daughter and her friend back to university. We left at 10:45am and I got back at 5:08pm. Just dropped her at the house and came straight back as I wanted to do the return journey in as much of day light as possible. Though it wasn't very light at all we are having rain too, nothing really to complain about considering what others are going through.

I have a room full of bookshelves and craft stuff. Hubby has just designed a 'temporary' rearrangement of our house and has not left any space for any of it. Maybe if I unload it all onto his side of the bed he'll change the plans, at the moment he is adamant that it isn't necessary...

In the short term I think this is easiest for the people who are unaffected but are close enough to help move stuff or clean up mud. At least they can DO something. I think that's why the evacuation centres and charities are being overwhelmed by the number of donations - people trying to help and so feel less helpless..

As it was here two years ago in the aftermath of Black Saturday, money is what will be needed, rather than donations of material goods. People need to feel that they are able to buy their own things rather than relying on donated goods.

Morning all.
I click on The Animal Rescue Site every day, their advertisers pay for food for rescued animals. Today they had a spot where people can donate to save animals in Australia because of the flood.

I was shocked that you could not take your animals with you to shelters but can almost understand. Would sleep in my car with dog rather than.
Yes Gail, spending money also helps the shopkeepers from not going under too.

Broni, same thing here. When a hurricane is approaching, the shelters open. There are two designated pet shelters but you must preregister in order to go to them.

Continued prayers and hugs to all who are displaced and without normal communication, food, water. Julie said it well, here we sit with food in our pantry's and grocery stores stock full, and many are wondering when their next meal will be, people who were well fed and housed with good jobs just days ago.
Heidi, thought you really were going to bed in the afternoon and well, not alone. I had to read it a bit slower. Bad Tricia!
Tami, thank ya muchly, for recognizing a real southern belle! I have not been called fine in years. For a transplant, you doing mighty well yourself. You need to get your sign, I MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN BORN IN THE SOUTH, BUT I GOT HERE AS SOON AS I COULD HEHEHE

MizT, glad you're not blaming me for the cold. Canada quite often gets blamed, but it seems lately that our storms have been coming from the south!!! Do you think Heidi is to blame for those too?
We have typical winter weather here, except we don't have a lot of snow. Hubby is happy with that, he doesn't have to shovel then. So I can't complain about our weather at the moment. Thoughts still on Aussie weather though. Hugs to any and all!!

Broni, the animal shelter was apparently under water. Animals were having to go to foster homes. And the helicopters were probably not equipped for animals. I did see film of one human shelter that took at least one animal. One of the saddest pieces of film I saw tonight showed about 4 horses swimming to the roof of a house to try to get out of the water. They didn't have a chance of getting onto it.

.... and turned him in with the 9 cows that won't be calving in the spring. He'll get them bred for Fall calving. I wish I had sorted him out 2 weeks ago, but I wasn't in my right mind then. I completely forgot about it.

Heidi, what are Target stores like? I just heard on our local news that Target has bought out a lot of the Zellers stores in Canada. Zellers is kind of like Walmart, more of a discount store.

I've only been in a Target once. It's kind of like a middle class version of Walmart. A step up. So it will be a slight improvement. Probably very slight. At least they don't have the pretense of calling their employees "associates".
