This is going to be a book by the time I am finished - and I don't want sympathy, I've been wallowing in self-pity for weeks!
First (and worst) - my husband's nephew 20yo died unnecessarily, due to his family's religious beliefs, in early January - won't say much more about that on an open forum. But it has caused a rift a mile wide in his family.
The floods and cyclones here in Qld have been a time of worry for family and friends involved. Finally heard from my friend in Townsville. He is OK.
Preliminary tests on my mother showed she may have cancer - follow up tests a week later fortunately ruled that out. But we would have been faced with the choice of chemo to prolong her life that has no quality anyway or palliative care - which is probably what we would have chosen. It was a long week's wait.
My son had been ill, vomiting blood, he is feeling better now but is still undergoing tests and we are waiting for results. An ulcer has been ruled out.
In the middle of all this he dumped his wonderful girlfriend - I'm so upset, but you can't force someone to feel something they don't.
Last but by no means least, my darling hubby is not well and is now skin and bones. We have been under huge financial strain for more than a year and couple that with losing his mother and then his nephew, the discord in his family,
working long hours because no-one will employ me. He swears he's OK but I know he's not.
So that's about it! I know most of you have your own troubles and most are much worse than mine. I feel like I'm just whining. I had hoped that 2011 was the year to turn things around for us but so far it has hit us with whammy after whammy.

Thank you all - you are lovely people, with troubles of your own and you still care enough to offer me support. Love you all!
Rolanda - I know how hard it is to watch your mother fading. When this happened with mine, I was forced to face the hard fact that she could be gone soon and I didn't cope nearly as well as I thought I would. It's only a temporary reprieve for us - she had another minor stroke that same week, a big one will take her out. The stroke means that she no longer can feed herself so my sis and I have been trying to get there at meal times to help out as often as we can.

Gekko, Everyone! Checking in and it's barely past 10 p.m. Finally I'm doing a bit better (but I haven't read the Sunday paper yet). Happy Valentine's Day!

Hi, Gail, Suzy, June and Tami!

Suzy, thanks for explaining FPR. I must have slept through a previous explanation of it. So sorry I made you swear.

And now, for real swearing! What must we do to convince your hubby? Maybe you should have him read all of our reactions after you told us about the 29-year-old man. Even IF it were totally and completely innocent, it just isn't healthy as their interests should be SO different and he is FAR more experienced and worldly than a 17-year-old. BTW, how old is his girlfriend? How would your hubby react if your D came home and announced that the 2 had broken up and SHE was now the girlfriend? OK, stepping sheepishly off my soapbox now. My apologies for ranting on about it.

Gail, what a nice custom to have - monthly (formerly dinner) lunch with your offspring! A wonderful way to keep the siblings in touch with each other and their parents! Plus, it sounds yummy! Especially home-grown veggies!

June, how nice that you took Leah with you to Belinda's farm! A great introduction to real people of various ages that she wouldn't necessarily receive by being at the uni. I bet she enjoyed her visit! And fun for Laura as well! I'm so sorry you fell while you were there! Hopefully it wasn't as bad a fall as the previous one, but I bet you're sore, nonetheless! Please take extra care this week, especially while you are there again mid-week!

Suzy, sounds like this was not a wonderful day. I'm so sorry! We're thinking of you. Happy Valentine's Day!

Tami, what an interesting "curse." Wish I had known it about 10 years or so ago.

Reading page 551 now: Hi, June, Tami, Heidi, Broni, Suzy, Gail, eaa, Theresa and CynB!

Heidi, thank you so much for sharing the updates from Tricia's sister!

MizT, I doubt that you'll have time to read this, but we're thinking of you and Al and sending lots of {{{{HUGS}}}}, positive thoughts and prayers! I hope you are both getting enough sleep! May God bless both of you!

Heidi, thank you for sharing Mythbusters findings on the memories of goldfish!

Suzy, maybe Alie was giving you a compliment and you didn't realize it!

Wishing everyone a Happy Valentine's Day!

Heidi, how awful that your neighbor who is George's assistant and helps IH broke his leg in 3 places! That's going to slow him down for a while! Sending healing thoughts his way!

Thinking of helpers, I don't think we've heard much about Robert lately. How is he doing?

eaa, what wonderfully appropriate comments you posted today! Happy Valentine's Day to you!

Theresa, I'm so glad you had a good nap! It sounds like you're going to need extra energy this week! I hope all of your D's appointments go well this week! I also hope your hubby wasn't exhausted when he got home from helping his parents! You both need to take care of yourselves! Has he started the additional part-time job? Thanks for the wishes for my nephew!

Heidi, what great news that the blintzes are good with blueberry sauce! So, maybe it turns out that the case of blintzes was not a completely bad choice for a gift.

Oh, dear, Theresa, I'm so sorry the Canadian police are so diligent and realized your SIL hadn't renewed his driver's license on time. Keeping fingers crossed that it will be thrown out if he goes to court, but too bad the policeman didn't just give him a warning, especially since the grandies were so upset, rather than the citation.

Cyn, we've missed you and are so glad you dropped by! {{{{{HUGS}}}}} as you deal with some difficult times. We are always here for each other, no matter how big or small our problems are! Sending you positive thoughts!

Now reading here on page 552: Hi, Tami, CynB, Heidi, Theresa, Suzy, Rolanda, Vicki and Suzanne!

Good Night, Tami! And it's back to school tomorrow for you. I hope the day goes well!

Cyn, you are not whining! Any ONE of the things you have dealt with so far this year would be bad enough. Unfortunately, you and your family have been hit again and again - and again by multiple whammies! {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, positive thoughts and prayers to all of you! If it is any consolation at all, a number of my recent readings suggest that we choose much of what will happen in our lives before we are born. Perhaps Col's nephew had some knowledge of what was to come and trusted a higher power to allow it to happen. His death may also help some other family member to deal with issues or have some personal growth. May the rest of this year bring much more happiness to you and your family and may the difficult issues you are facing improve with each passing day! Sending you and your family positive thoughts for good health and improved financial security! If only there were some way to help each other!

Suzanne, sending prayers and positive thoughts for your friend George. He really MUST involved the police in this matter! Being held at knifepoint is not bullying! {{{{HUGS}}}} to you as you try to help him!

I'm off to bed. I've been surfing the net this evening. I earned it after cleaning the manure off the hay feeding area, feeding the cows, and doing a favor for Mike, the neighbor with the broken leg. His truck had slid on the ice on his driveway (same place where he broke his leg), gone off the driveway and ended up in an inaccessible spot. I pulled it back onto the gravel drive using my tractor.

Suzanne.... Julie is absolutely right. Knifepoint is not bullying! It is a criminal matter for the police. George needs to press charges. If he doesn't, the next time the knife will be used, or it will escalate to a gun. His life is in danger. Tell him that he HAS to call the police!!!

Yet another 'adventure'. Mum, my mate has been evicted and has nowhere to go... hubby says we need to know more about this person... vanishes for a while then comes back with a girl... this is my mate. Well, what do you say then??

The Winter Boots

Did you hear about the teacher who was helping one of her pupils put on his boots?

He asked for help and she could see why. Even with her pulling and him pushing, the little boots still didn't want to go on. By the time they got the second boot on, she had worked up a sweat.

She almost cried when the little boy said, 'Teacher, they're on the wrong feet.' She looked, and sure enough, they were. It wasn't any easier pulling the boots off than it was putting them on.

She managed to keep her cool as, together, they worked to get the boots back on, this time on the correct feet.

He then announced, 'These aren't my boots.' She bit her tongue, rather than get right in his face and scream, 'Why didn't you say so? ' like she wanted to. Once again she struggled to help him pull the ill-fitting boots off his little feet.

No sooner had they got the boots off when he said, 'They're my brother's boots. My Mum made me wear 'em.'

Now she didn't know if she should laugh or cry. But she mustered up what grace and courage she had left to wrestle the boots on his feet again.

Helping him into his coat, she asked, 'Now, where are your mittens?' He said, 'I stuffed 'em in the toes of my boots.'

She will be eligible for parole in three years.

Julie, I think I got his attention. I used the word 'stalker' about the way he drops over all the time. Even Ebob picked up on that. I hope.

A nice distraction from that yesterday. On Valentines Day at the high school the seniors do a fund raiser thing where they sell balloons and chocolates etc, which are delivered to the 'victim' in public!

Ebob had free periods so was saved that embarrassment, but was called to a coffee shop where she was given a cute necklace and bought a cup of coffee - by a younger man!! I much prefer that idea..

No Theresa, different person. Our big concern was that nobody is evicted with no notice! The story there is still a bit thin. But she's headed over to the shelter this morning and is convinced she will get a room there. We're turning into a halfway house!
