Ebob went to the shelter, didn't she? So did Three. Going there doesn't mean that they don't have family.

I guess the word "mate" confused me, Suzy. I tend to think of mate as boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife.

heidi, a very telling point about this girl is that she is a good friend of my nephew who is disabled and has an IQ of 75.

Out in Australia, Theresa? I'm not surprised! We call the bf/gf spouse thing - partner. I hate it, I don't even have a husband anymore I have a partner!

Daughter's MIL is picking up the girls. I made an early supper for my daughter so she can rest when the girls are out.
For the last 3 or 4 days I have woken up with a nasty headache in the back of the head, radiating into the neck. I'm not complaining, I just wondered if anyone else gets these. I'm thinking since my neck is involved I might need a new pillow, my pillow I think is too hard. The headache goes away with Tylenol and then doesn't come back until the next morning. Strange.

Bulltwang, you have a husband! You have to nip this cr*p in the bud Suzy. The kids cannot say yes to every drop kick who has a prob in their life. I am very hard when it comes to this sort of thing. My kids have tried it on about once each...Mum, so and so had a fight with their mother, can they come and stay a couple of nights...NO! They only try once!
I did say yes once, then got a phone call from the police, and it wasn't a particularly nice phone call either...

This young lady thought it was 'cute' that the girls had lunch made for them. When Ebob asked me if I had any spare underwear I melted. I'm too much of a softy! She wasn't living with her parents before she came here so who knows what is going on there?

Suzy, I constantly had a stream of my daughter's friends spend time with us when she was a teenager. I'm a real softie. I have stayed in touch with some of them over the years, more so than my daughter has. They used to call us mum and dad. But there were some that I said no to. It helps when you live in a small town and you know a lot of the people around, you can judge if the teenager needing a place to stay is conning you.

When officious people ask me about my partner, I always correct them and say 'my husband'. This is one PC thing I find very annoying!
I have no idea who this girl is Theresa, Ebob had never mentioned her before last night - think I'm getting a rep - soft touch!

One of my daughter's high school friends who used to spend a lot of time at our place has opened up a candy store in his home town. I knew there was a reason I liked this guy. It's about a two hour drive from us, but we hope to get there this summer. He was a troubled young man and is now happily married with two daughters. It's nice to see.

Good morning all - Happy V Day to the topsiders.
I think Gail's got the right attitude about these strays and waifs needing somewhere to live - just say no. I say she has the right attitude - but I doubt I could do it. I would vaccilate between feeling the need to give this kid some help and not trusting the motives behind it.
Fortunately I've never had to deal with it - never happened when my kids were at high school. My kids had their share of teenage angst in those days but now their High School years seem like the Brady Bunch in comparison with what goes on those days. In just that one generation - the family in society has disintegrated.

The way I look at it, I had the occasional screaming match with my mob, and they just stormed off to their rooms, never prevailed upon the sympathy and hospitality (goodwill) of others. People need to suck it up princess and grow a pair!

Hello my friends, hope you are all well. Sorry to hear that some of you are going through hard times at the moment - sending ((((hugs)))) to all of you ...
D3's boyfriend has just lost his father to cancer, which is very sad. We never met him, but he sounded like a really nice guy; his kids are "celebrating" his life with a great deal of alcohol ... I hope it helps ...
Isn't the Internet amazing? We can send messages to people in seconds, get the answers back straight away ... "Are you alright?" "Is there anything we can do?" "We're thinking of you and sending our love ... " You're never really on your own any more, unless the power goes out ...

Judy, when the power goes out there's always texting! At least while you still have batteries..
I'm so sorry about D3's boyfriend's father... I wonder if the alcohol will help?
Cyn, I know what you mean about 'never happened when I was in school'... There are a lot of troubled teens here, and many of them come from troubled homes, but not all - and how do you tell the difference??

Yeah, Suzy, don't take that on board.
Heidi, you are right, and I have never closed my 'consultant's' door when someone needs an ear, and yes, I have even helped some kids out, but there is becoming a tendency for people to run away from issues rather than face them and deal with them.
Judy, I am sorry to hear about the boyfriend's father, it is never easy, and if that's the way they want to deal with it, it is only temporary. Can't hurt!
