Hi Rolanda - a bit cooler here in Brissie - overcast and rained much of the night but I can feel the humidity rising - so hope there's more rain soon.
I love Greek coffee - must be my Greek blood but, as I said to Susan, it is an acquired taste. It was amusing to see her reaction, first to the size of the cup, and then to the grainy texture of the coffee. She did enjoy the Greek wine she had though.
Oooh, and the Greek desserts looked scrumptious - before we had entree and generous servings of main course. Nobody could fit in dessert.

It's funny how such things are genetic. I've noticed that those of us with Scottish blood have a deep love of the bagpipes, but non-Scots consider them noise.

True, Heidi! My mother is a strange mix - her father Greek and her mother Scottish. A lone piper can bring me to tears as can a beautiful photograph of the Acropolis. Dad's parents were both British and I also consider myself a keen anglophile.
I also think it's probably the way they brought me up and the things/places/people they admired.

Heidi - if you like all things Scottish - I wondered if you've ever had the chance to see the British TV series of 'Hamish Macbeth' (from the 90's) with Robert Carlyle as the local policeman in a Scottish village, complete with his white Scottie dog, Jock. It was quirky and funny. We've been watching re-runs on cable lately and still enjoy them.
There's also another good one called 'Monarch of the Glen'.

I've seen Monarch Of The Glen. It was pretty good. I've never seen Hamish McBeth, tho' I've heard of it.

Good evening all. It has been an interesting day. Went shopping with the boys. Mitchell walk out with his first laptop. Now I want one. He used some of the money he got from his bar mitzvah. I figured it was an investment in his education. It has a built in webcam so I may download skype for him one day. We found out our cousin in Texas has a webcam. This way the boys can talk to their cousin. She is one month younger than Dylan.

Tami - I LOVE my laptop and only use the desktop computer for business/banking stuff which I avoid like the plague. This one sits on my dining room table and only gets moved (to a special litle table nearby) when we eat here. Truth be told that's mostly when we have visitors because we, more often than not, eat in front of the TV. Should I admit that???? Probably not!!

Haggis isn't that bad, in fact quite tasty. It has been a long time since I had any. It was one of the things my nephew who has just moved back up to Scotland missed when he moved down south last year.

Cyn, when I first got married we never at at the table. We used the couch and coffee table in front of the tv. I am seriously thinking of upgrading to a new pooter this summer and it will be a laptop. Have to look at finances. If I do get a laptop, I will give my desktop to Dylan.

Good maEn everyone!! I've been reading but not posting, sorry!!! Glad to hear Broni is back!! Missed her!!!
Went to church today with my friend/client Linda. She lives not too far from me. It is a Christian/non-denominational church. I felt VERY welcome and the experience gave me a sense of peace I have been missing for a very long time. I am DEFINITELY going back!!

Heidi, I read just this week that the traditional haggis will now be for sale in the USA. Seems we only had some imitation kind, something about the mad cow disease scare. I forgot all I read, but interesting that you mention it just when I had read about it. Was told the original kind is far superior and not to be compared to what we in the USA have been able to purchase.

I am scotch Irish and cannot abide the bagpipes! Grates on my last nerve. sorry.

Tami, webcamming with his cousin might be fun for Mitchell, Hope he enjoys his laptop.

I had myself a " no day" kind of day today. Had not been feeling well overnight, and slept late, then napped and read the day away. I suppose everyone needs a day like that on occasion. OH I still managed to cook our meals, we had home made low carb pizza today for lunch and a ground meat curry for dinner, yummy. Hubby asked if I had that recipe written down so I could do it again.

I did read the last 2 ages but forget what I read, perhaps I should scan back and refresh my memory.

Hugs to all.

Afternoon all!
I've just been to see a friend who is visiting from somewhere a long way up the coast. It was good to see her again.

Haggis gets me just with a description of the ingredients. I think I'd have to be tricked into trying it. And me with Scottish in me blood! I do love the bagpipses though.

Humid, humid, humid here...

HI to Rolanda, have been missing you lately. You do not seem to be on site as much now since your holiday.

Tami, Suzanne is planning ner revenge, better run and hide!

CynB, I will not confess that we also eat in front of TV. Hubby's idea of relaxing, I prefer meals at the table, but not alone!

Suzy/Tami - always ate at the table with my children and always do with my grandies but when it's just Col and I, it's a tray in our recliners in front of the telly.
Even my sister, who is soooo particular about everything - gourmet cooking, presentation etc - has succumbed in her retirement to the occasional meal in front of the TV.

I'm just out to get my drivers licence renewed - it was due on my birthday 16/1, so I hope I don't get fined - or worse, have to do the driving test again - I'd fail!

Just do not drive until it is renewed Cyn!
Belated birthday wishes for your MIL Bean.
Just sat down for a few minutes. Did some last minute shopping this morning. Got a new chip for the camera.8GB and will take 1,500 photos.I will probably reduce that by more than half if I took that many. Ken has a camera as well so I am sure we will have some photos to show you!!!
I think Ken is impressed with my little notebook. I bet I get second chance to use it while we are away!
Nice to see Tricia and Brenda about.

CynB... around here the license doesn't expire until the last day of your birth month. Maybe they'll cut you some slack.

Greetings one and all..
Heidi our anniversary's expire on the anniversary of when you first acquired it...for some eager people who get their licesnse on the the very first day that they are legally able [their bithday] it will be their birthday which is an easy date to remember. As to cutting slack there is a period of grace in which you can be late with your renewal fee but i cannot remember how much it is. I think it is 2 weeks. Until the end of the month wouldn't be much chop if your birthday feel on the 28th-31st...

I don't make up the laws here. I could probably think of much more sensible ways to do things if I did. I think that we're over-regulated anyways.

BTW there isn't much slack if you are caught breaking the law without your renewal being paid..

Gail I couldn't agree more...when my mother died 2 of my best friends traveled up to the funeral. It was a couple surprise for me and meant SO much.

I love the bagpipes.
Maternal grandfathers family came out Scotland. Knowing what is in Haggis puts me off completely.
Paternal grandfather came out from County Wicklow and I presume that is responsible for my love of Irish dancing and faith in Murphy's rule overriding all commonsense...

Hubby misses licences expiring on your birthday - he says it is too hard to remember the odd dates we use.

Whatever the grace period here is, I doubt you are allowed to drive during it.

I don't doubt for one moment that you could do that Heidi.. we have some pretty crazy anomalies in our system as well... it is one of the greatest causes for discontent for those that have to uphold the law...along with some of the penalties meted out.
The fine should also be in keeping with the crime but rarely seems to be the case...speak to just about any victim of crime on that one..

June, you'll have to pull the birthday money card to get a turn on the notebook! It was birthday money you said? Sigh, my kingdom for a memory... That memory card should be excellent! Mine is only 2GB and takes stacks of photos, but only about 15 minutes of video before it is filled.

Murphy's Law defintely rules!

Bean, I agree, and an example Americans would be familiar with is the man from Arkansas (???) who 'killed' his wife over here and got 18 months in jail. The one our government won't extradite or hand over information about because they want to charge him with a death penalty crime in the US.

Suzy Raimond is one of the nicest chaps ever. He doesn't seem to have changed..just aged and become wiser...and better looking and I thought he was pretty hot even as a little girl. I remember one night he turned up on his motor bike just after I was sent to bed...I don't know if I threw a tantrum...I was too shy to draw attention to myself that way but he recognised how upset I was and especially came around to my bedroom window to say goodnight [and he gave me a goodnight kiss ...or was that bit wishful thinking]. I was so jealous that my older sister was allowed to sit up later...

It was lovely meeting up with him years later. I got him to sign my book. Would you like his email address? ha ha..just joking... I wouldn't divulge it without asking his permission. Perhaps I could get him to proof read my first novel?
Mind boggles.
I am looking forward to watching the film on a slow speed to try to pick out the landmarks.
