Mum is OK!!
Early Sunday Morning, someone's 'Darling' broke into Mum's house, whilst she was sleeping, went thru her all drawers/stuff etc for money, including in her bedroom. Thankfully she didnt hear them and wake up!!
Mum's house wasnt the only one the 'Darling' entered, a couple of the others had the same thing happen.
The 'Darling' got away with about $500 from Mum.

Rolanda, glad your mum is ok. That can be scary, knowing someone has been in your house while you are sleeping.

Rolanda, how awful! I am so glad she didn't wake up, who knows what could have happened. $500 is a lot of money, but it could have been so much worse. Thank goodness she is okay.

I'm not supposed to be here, I'm supposed to be pushing things around - sucky and hot slidy things. I decided to have a cup of coffee first.

Rola that is terrible. Thank goodness your mum didn't wake up...who knows what that little 'darling' would have done. $500 is a lot of money but not as big a blow ans the sense of loss of safety and security in your own home. I hope she adjusts a lot more quickly that I did to being ransacked..

Oh, no, Rolanda. A violating experience for your mother.

A related story: Years ago, IH was traveling 5 days out of every week. One Friday, he got home mid afternoon in a foul mood. The airline had lost his luggage again. An hour later, the airline called to say they found it and would send someone out with it immediately. We waited and waited, and the guy didn't show up. Finally at midnight we gave up waiting for him and went to sleep. Just 2 1/2 hours later, one of the collies nudged me awake, acting like she wanted me to follow her. IH refused to leave the bedroom, worried that there might be some danger. I followed the dog into the living room. In the middle of the room was a strange man.... white as a sheet... surrounded by 12 collies staring at him silently with all their teeth bared. Being half asleep, my thinking wasn't the best. I should have just called the police. Instead, I stood there with my arms crossed, silently staring at him myself for several minutes while he trembled in terror. If he had made a single move towards me. the dogs would have attacked. When I thought he was sufficiently scared, I said 2 words to the dogs.."Step back", and every dog stepped back about 3 feet, leaving a gap for the stranger. He took off running thru' the house, ran outside to his vehicle and with a squeal of tires took off. When I looked, I found he had left IH's luggage inside the door, then continued on into the house. At no point did the dogs make a sound. I believe that that episode may have cured him of entering homes like that, since he had no warning of the dogs. I have never seen anybody as scared as he was.

Just peeking in . . . Hi, Tami, Rolanda, Suzy, Bean and Heidi!

Oh, Rolanda, so sorry to hear about the break-in at your Mum's house, but so GLAD to hear that she didn't wake up and she is OK! I hope she quickly can let it pass. The money is a lot, but more important is that she is OK and she regains her peace of mind!

I bet Tami has long since gone to bed, as it's after 11 PM in the Central Time Zone.

Suzy, sorry it's a sucky and hot slidy kind of day for you!

Happy Ground Hog's Day to you, too, Bean!

Heidi, I loved your story about the circle of collies. I imagine that man never entered a house uninvited again! It certainly pays to have well-trained dogs that are well taken care of. They know where their loyalty belongs!

Heidi, I'm not scared - just tired. I need to head to bed. Tomorrow is primary election day in the United States. Unfortunately, in many of the races, it's a matter of choosing the least offensive candidate. And now, Good Night!

Update on Hubby's niece. She is not going to get better. Yesterday, Texas time, they gave her 24 to 72 hours. I am so sad for her children!

Oh Suzy..how awful for those children.
They didn't ask for any of this. To have been damaged before birth and then affected for all of their short lives. Now to lose their mother..
Let us hope that some positive input from a caring extended family will start to make up for such a rocky start. I will be interested to hear how it pans out for them.

Good afternoon - some awful news on here since this morning!
Suzy - I'm so sorry to hear about your hubby's niece. So terribly, terribly sad and awful for the children.
Rolanda - how awful for your Mum! And how violated she must feel - do you think she'll be able to cope with still living there alone?
Heidi - loved the story of the Collies. I still maintain dogs are the best security a person can have - they'll give their life to protect you!

How sad, Suzy. Those poor children. I am so glad that their mothers step-father wants them. They need to feel wanted. They are old enough to understand what is happening, but inside they probably feel resentment towards their mother for doing this, and feel guilty for the resentment. I hope they get grief counseling, too.

Sherlock Holmes was great entertainment. I love the way Robert Downey Jr played him (I always like anything he is in). Never been a fan of Jude Law but he also was great as Watson.

Cyn... the silly part is that IH doesn't understand that. He's still paranoid about someone breaking in here. I figure that I'm more secure than if I was guarded by a group of Marines. I pity anybody who tries.

Aren't there any talented British actors who could play Holmes? The clips I've seen have a less than perfect accent.

Rolanda, I hope long term your Mother is OK. A terrible thing to happen to her. Mian thing is that she was not hurt in any way.
Cleaned the fish pond, took up Ken's new trousers that he bought in Bangkok and some other mending. I have lots of things piled on the bed ready to pack. Clothes are no problem it is the other things like torches, binoculars, preventative medications. cameras etc. Went to Vinnies and bought a cheep second hand book that I can just leave behind when I have finished ready.
Have to water the garden and clean up some of the mess I still have around the house. Cleaning lady will vacuum etc while we are away.
I even had a nanny nap today I was so tired!
Suzy, back is OK but will be a bit tender with all I have done today (like cleaning the fish pond and carrying the water).

June don't make yourself ill before you go away. Enjoy the trip to Eygpt and meeting up with Wagdy.
Rolanda, hope your mother is ok and that it doesn't knock her confidence to live independantly.
Suzy, thoughts are going to your nieces children.

Thank you for all the best wishes for our holiday. I am sure I will sleep well on the plane.
I have invited Wagdy ( and wife) to join us for a tea or coffee at the hotel. He said he would meet us there but not sure when and I do not have a contact for him. He does have all our flight details etc so I do hope it works out.
I am going to miss all you lot!! but I am sure I will cope.

Heidi - about RD Jr and his fake English accent - I really don't think the film was meant to be taken seriously. It's a fun movie. I didn't even think about it.
The worst example was Kevin Costner (most overrated 'actor' ever) in Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. Although to be fair, even to him, he didn't even try!! That's why I love the scene in 'Robin Hood, Men in Tights', one of my favourite comedy movies where Cary Elwes looks directly at the camera and says 'as least I have a British accent'!!

A quick I'm about to hook up my trailer , load up #9 and the runt, and take them to the stockyard. I don't like this one as much as the other. They're a LOT slower, and I can spend as much as 4 hours in line waiting to unload. The other place, with the sale on Saturday, never makes you wait in line for more than half an hour.

I just have time for a brief Hello! I hope to be back later to read. I hope everyone is well or getting better! Happy Groundhog's Day! (We have had snow since last night, and still going, so the groundhog at the local zoo shouldn't see his shadow.)
