Gail I have been OK for a week but Hubby still having some problems. Someone suggested banana smoothies so I will get some bananas tomorrow when I shop.
We painted the lounge room a couple of years ago, all but the small alcove with mirrow and glass shelves. It has been that way ever since so today I took down all the ornaments, painted, washed the shelves etc.
Feeling a bit sore (back0 from doing things I should not do but very pleased with my efforts.
Hubby was not aware we had not painted the alcove even though it it was a mixture of the old and new colours!!

Sending you a cyber back rub June.
When my sister and I went over to Adelaide in December when Mum took ill, she and I went through the unit like a dose of salts! Mum has a collection of paperweights in a half-round glass fronted cabinet and they had become very dusty. She and I spent a pleasant hour cleaning the glass and shining the weights. It was a very satisfying pastime. The result was a sparkling display.

Hi Mary.
Gail, I have so many antiques and ornaments and they are nearly always dusty as I find other things to do rather than housework!

Saw your comment on parents page. Gath has gone back to the beginning of the photo rotation so we are seeing photos that have been around for many years and been seen many times..

Hi Mary and June. I've been out shifting the hose. The birds are having a wonderful time because it is so dry. We have bore water, so no water restrictions.

Hi all, SA4 has made us chatter a lot more hasn't it. I see that there are many different variations on shepherds pie all sound lovely. I normally top the potato with cheese before putting in the oven. And it does freeze well so I normally make two large pies and freeze one fr later when I'm feeling lazy (which is quite often

I have just looked at the weather forecast for the easter weekend Looks like we are going back into winter, we have snow forecast. Last year we went to the beach on Good Friday, think this year I will have to turn the heating on high.

Good morning all! A little snow last night and now it is pouring rain. We had to chip some of the ice on the driveway so we could get the cars back into the garage. There was a 4-5 inch ledge in the middle and it was hard to get up and over it. It was like driving up onto a curb, a slippery one! We got the car back and apparently the rattle was the axle bearings? All of these repairs are killing us. It cost $500!

Just passing thru....glad I've eaten - all this talk about food. I had an appointment in the city at 6pm tonight and when I got home at 8.30pm wongerful son had dinner cooked!!!
I have never been into Shepherds Pie made with anything other than cold left over lamb..[beef 2nd choice] = I mix it with minced onion, carrots and frozen peas all mixed together with tomato sauce / worcstershire sauce mix. [if I use home made sauce I drop the W sauce]. Topped with heaps of mashed spuds. Yum.
Must go ....meant to be getting things sorted for work tomorrow.

I'd love to try the sheperds pie because it sounds like it has all of the ingredients I love. The only problem is the kids. They don't like their food to touch each other and I don't know where they get that from. I'll have to think of something different for when all of the kids are home. D1 is coming home today. She found a ride but had to miss her honors class to get it. She didn't really want to miss it because it is 2 hours long, but she doesn't want to put us out by making the long drive to get her since we'll be driving her and D2 back on Monday. S1 is getting a ride home tomorrow. With gas prices the way they are, we've been trying to encourage them to find rides. For some reason, they don't like asking people for rides. When I was in school, if I didn't get a ride, then I wasn't coming home. I guess we've spoiled them!

Hi Bean, Hi Stella.... bye Bean
I know what you mean about car repairs our 'luxury' car is in the garage right now. Needs a new alternator(which cost £150/$300 approx) and the cost of labour will be on top of that. This is three weeks after it costing us £500 for servicing and MOT, plus £200 for transporting it back when it broke down.
Cars who would have them...well actually I couldn't do without a car. We currently have 4 between 3 drivers.
Stella what is the cost of gas where you are. We are currently paying £1.08 for a litre (roughly $3.16)

Hi Brenda,
Our petrol went up today to $1.40 per litre. We could get it for $1.32 yesterday. It always goes up on Wednesday , then slowly drops down and up again the following Wednesday. Still much cheaper than UK.

Bean, we always had sheppards pie and rissoles made from left over cold meat. The meat grinder screwed onto the end of the table and the cold meat fed into it as you turned the handle.
Rissoles made with mince never taste like those my Nanna made.(We lived on a farm with three generations and my grandmother did all the cooking)

Hi June, how are you?
Petrol here fluctuates in price all the time, but never ever goes down below the previous lowest price. Fortunately these days most of my journeys are local ones so I get away with filling the tank maybe once every two to three weeks. A few years ago I was traveling up and down from Darlington to Stevenage and back every weekend (a round trip of roughly 450 miles)I would dread doing that now as our petrol prices have probably doubled since then.

Brenda, gas is about $3.45/gallon. The biggest problem here is that you NEED a car to do anything. Unless you live near a city, there isn't a lot of public transportation and most people drive 30 or more miles one-way to work and then you have to drive to the store, sports, etc. We needed our van to fit us all when we are together, but it guzzles gas. I topped it off the other day (it had over 3/4 of a tank) and it cost me $47! It used to cost less than that to fill it up! It just makes it hard to get by every week.

The only sun I shall get today is my avatar! It is a dull and grey breezy day today, with t- storms just west of us, so very humid and damp feeling. I am beginning to hear the thunder, it has taken a bit to get to us, I was up an hour and half ago to watch for severe weather. Looked as if it would be upon us in 15 min. Woke hubby, made coffee, fixed my home made "egg MCMuffing" cause they are portable breakfast. Still no rain! This storm seems to have a history of flooding more than damaging winds.

MAMACITA, love your chair, that one looks comfy. does it swivel?

Rain has gone, no severe weather this time, not here, but with history like this had, it is good to keep a watch on it. Lots of flooding in other areas after this storm, I hope all our friends and family are safely out of harms way.

REMEMBER, NEVER drive into water across a road or play in creeks or ditches in a storm like this. So many reports of people injured or still missing and presumed dead, from being swept away by the waters, OH MY.

Cloudy and dreary here, too. Our gas is $3.20/gal. I ate just before I got here or I would be very hungry, indeed.

Dino, I'm concerned about the Tibetans and praying for them, too.

I wish our petrol was cheaper, I've just worked out that ours is nearly £5 a gallon which makes it roughly $10 in the US, but I have just remembered that a US gallon isn't as big as a British gallon so will have to work it out again so comparison is fair. $8.17 US dollars a gallon

Hey, I found the new SA page. And look, even my chair is here.
Nice to see some new people here.
Still busy. Yesterday I rearranged my bedroom. I'm happy with the results. Looks bigger now.
Sears phoned and my new upright freezer has arrived. I told hubby I was tired of digging in the chest freezer a couple of weeks ago and he told me to order the new one on the weekend. Isn't he wonderful? Now I must clean up and sort out the mud room so hubby can pick up my new freezer.
Have a great day, everyone.

Stella, with your kids not liking their foods touching ( #2 was like that as a toddler), makes it hard to make casseroles/stews.
I usually make one almost once a week here, specially through Winter.

The worst thing about petrol prices is that most people run more than one vehicle - as Stella said a lot of us don't live near adequate public transport. There's only 2 of us in our household and we run 3 vehicles. Our business is a truck (diesel 1.45/litre - 1000 litres per week). Can't park the truck in a residential area, hubby works odd hours so he needs a vehicle to get to and from the truck - parked 12 kms away. His ute costs about $20-$30 per week in fuel, only use otherwise is to go to the tip (4kms away) or tow the boat - 6kms to boat ramp . I drive a Prius - fuel up every 3 weeks for about $40. Three vehicles for 2 people - not good.
