Brenda.... Will Callie be allowed to play again once the stitches are out? My Vet would allow it, but Vets differ in opinions about that.

MizT... Dennis is the worst offender about storms. He completely goes berserk now (he's gotten much worse in the last 6 months, in fact, he's worse each storm more than the previous one.).... if I try to crate him, he tears the bars of the crate apart with his strong jaws and teeth. Anywhere I put him gets destroyed. The contents of a closet get shredded. I plan on calling the Vet in a few to see if I can get a strong tranquilizer to sedate him during storms. Most of the old dogs are afraid of storms, but Dennis sets them off into a frenzy. The funny thing is... when these dogs were younger, they had no problem with thunder. It doesn't start until they reach about 9 years old. My breeding and rescues alike.

Heidi, Callie still has to be careful for a few more days, the stitches have disolved and it is all scabbed over nicely.

My Sheltie was the same as your collies. When she was a pup she didn't mind fireworks but once she reached, as you said. about 9 she used to shake in fear. She never went beserk or destroyed anything but she wasn't happy at all. We never had that many thunderstorms so they didn't affect her.

Talked to the Vet clinic. They'll get me something to sedate Dennis with during storms. I'll pick it up later today.

Pleased that they could help you Heidi. Having one dog going off when thunderstorms are around is bad enough but when all yours get involved it will be scary

Hi there everyone. Its the start of another 5 days of early shift for me and it is so cold.Well, cold for the sub-tropics anyway.
My sister did a makeup for me yesterday to hide the psoriasis and did a marvelous job.I just have to do it myself now.
Brenda..hope Callie never has anymore trouble.

Heidi, I too am glad that the vet could help you with Dennis. Poor Puppy, he must be terrified to behave like that. I have not seen any dog but a Jack Russell Terrier attack it's crate. I was house training one, and he did manage to get out of the crate the first time I left him home alone, in his crate.

Remember... Dennis has been used to crates daily for 10 years. So they're not something he's uncomfy with. He just loses his mind during storms now. This is new.

Morning all!
MizT, good advice about the hand washing. I plan to buy some of the hand wash stuff today.

Nola, I'm sorry to hear your psoriasis is bad at the moment. Apart from feeling self-conscious, it must be very uncomfortable.

Brenda, glad to hear Callie got a clean bill of health.

Heidi, glad Dennis will be calm during the next storm.

I fought it and fought it and fought it, but I seem to have succumbed to the cold my family has had all week. I'm imagining running a class room with a sore throat.... YEAR 7 becomes (year 7) - what was that you said Miss?

Ebob will be shattered when we wake up. We have decided that she won't be going to baseball today as she isn't over her cold yet.

I have been successfully resuscitated. I am now good until June 2011. The instructor was funny so we had a good time. All the rules seemed to have changed from 2 years ago. I also learned how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator) That is a new one for me.

Suzy, teachers are not allowed to get sick. It is an unwritten rule. It is hard to believe you only have 1 week left. Time has gone quickly.

Good morning everyone
Suzy, you poor thing, hope you feel better soon!
Heidi, our first dog, Trina, hated thunderstorms - also fireworks would drive her crazy. She would try to burrow under the furniture. She was the first dog I remember, the one I consider as "our" dog, and she had quite a personality!
(That reminds me, I've put a few new photos on my page, including one with some of Trina's puppies.)

I'm so excited!!! I got an e-mail that my new scuba mask is already in the mail!!! I will probably have to go to the nearest lake and try it out, but that's not the same as the ocean.

Thanks Bean and Heidi! I have mastered a new skill - I can now transfer old photos to the computer. Now I have to go through hundreds of said photos looking for "good" ones. Must also learn to repair old, damaged photos to save for posterity.
By the way, Adam went to the doctor, and he doesn't have swine flu! He's just sick. Rob got him a new computer for his birthday, and he (Adam) was very excited - thanked us profusely ... in between coughing fits.

Hello, SA Friends! Hello Heidi, Brenda, Nola, MizTricia, Suzy, Tami the T, Judy, and Bean (all on this page)!

Brenda, I'm glad to hear that Callie is on the road to a complete recovery! She'll be so excited when she is able to walk off lead.

Nola, I hope your psoriasis starts improving. Was the makeup your sister used on you something special, or just regular makeup that everyone uses? Wow - 5 days of early shift. I hope you don't mind it!

MizTricia, have you had any rain yet, or is any forecast for the weekend? (We are supposed to get some tomorrow in Illinois.)

Suzy, hope you feel better soon. It's no fun trying to teach with a cold. Just one more week to go? Have you started making application for jobs yet?

Good Night, Tami. You must have had a busy week! We're so relieved to know that you are certified to administer CPR for another 2 years. Yay, it's safe to visit here!

Heidi, luckily your vet can prescribe something to help Dennis deal with all the thunder & lightning in your neck of the woods! I hope if he is able to relax, the other dogs will follow suit. Wow, your mask sounds terrific! If you'll be trying it out in a local lake, be sure you were at least a 5 mil suit, though 7 might be better. I expect they'll still be rather cold.

Bean, it was nice to see you, though briefly, today!

Judy, I enjoyed your new gallery pictures. I'm so glad you find out the Adam does NOT have "the" flu! What a great birthday present - a new computer!

JULI, I am having rain now, a nice slow gentle rain. A big line of T storms went through earlier, but the line parted and reformed on the other side of us. I guess this area of the county is called dry valley by the old timers for a reason hehe.

We also had some rain while I was taking a nap. As a result, 2 pair of Al's blue jeans are getting a prolonged final rinse. Yep, they attracted the rain at last. Seriously, they were not dry when I had to run some errands, so left them hanging. Came home, took a nap, and it was already raining hard when I woke. Oh well, they will dry tomorrow I imagine.

Heidi, any T storms? Did the tranquilizer work on
Dennis? Hope you have a much more peaceful night now.

I had an unusual experience tonight, warming planned overs without a microwave. I had to think a while to figure how to do that. Earlier in the day, Al took out microwave into his shop, it needed sanding and painting under the revolving carousel. The paint has flaked off and the moisture in there was causing it to rust, looked unsightly. so, he painted it for us. Only problem, with the rains, it has not dried. When he told me it would be out of service tonight, I told him he best be here when I got dinner warmed, I was not warming it twice hehehe. He did good, was here just as it was ready. It is amazing how we do get dependant on our appliances.

We're not due for another thunderstorm until 10 am, MizT, so Dennis hasn't had any tranquilizers yet. We're actually due for storms at 10 am, 3 pm and 9 pm. He may spend tomorrow higher than a kite.
