It seems that SA7 is getting old and slow. It is time for a new page. Welcome to SA8.

I've been waiting to let someone else TOPP, and nobody did, so I'll just do it myself.

Thank you for TOPP'ing Heidi, now I can come out and play. I also have a Canon AE1 but have not touched it in about 10 years. I bought a simpler camera when Mitchell was born and it was easier. My brother bought us a digital camera a few years ago but it had an accident and no longer works. I made the mistake of letting Mitchell take it on a field trip.

Thanks for the advice so far. I am looking for a simple digital. I just want one I can grab and use. I like being able to put my pictures on line to share with friends.

I keep an 80-210 zoom on my AE1. It lets me blur the background in zoomed in pictures. I LOVE doing that.

Ken has a Canon Powershot A95 and I have a Panasonic Lumix TZ7. Mine is much smaller and can fit in my pocket, it also takes a much wider picture. Both are more expensive cameras so it depends how much you want to use it and how much you want to pay.
Mine has a lot of features which I have yet to learn to use.

Afternoon all!
A busy morning exchanging one of Ally's presents because it was broken when she opened the box, chasing up my prac package from the school and overnighting it to the Uni, going to Ebob's high school to sign the note she forgot to give to me to sign at home..... Now I just have to make a birthday cake.

Tami, Ebob has an inexpensive Sony, which reminded me of something to look out for... It is rechargeable, which is wonderful, BUT, the memory card doesn't fit into anything standard. We have to plug her camera into the computer to download the photos. With ours we just take the memory card out of the camera and plug it into the computer - much, much more convenient.

I'm searching for a recipe for icing/frosting for banana cake - decided to go with the butter icing rather than the cream cheese icing so I don't have to go shopping again!

I was going to keep us all up to date on Rola's trip and already I am running a day behind...

Yesterday [28th] she took a train from Hong Kong to Shenzhen. Hopefully she would have arrived before 7:00am, taken a bus to the airport in time to catch a flight Guilin.
Guilin Itinerary: leave luggage in hotel, go out for lunch, tour of Guilin city, visiting Elephant Trunk Hill and Folded Brocade Hilland finally in the evening taking in the view of the splendid Two Rivers and Four Lakes.

Today...29th June final destination Yangshuo
Breakfast at 8:00 f/b bus to see the Epic Rice Terraces of Long Ji, 3 hour trip to arrive in a Zhuang minority village, lunch, climb [several hours] to the three scenic viewing spots, afternoon bus to Yangshuo, dinner along Yangshuo’s famous Western Street.

At this stage she will still be climbing... hope she has comfy shoes on. That bus ride later on will helpfully revive her stamina for tonight!

Good evening lovely SA people.
Busy, busy again!
Suzy - hope Ally had a great day. Put a post on her page.
eaa - loved the photos.
Bean - thanks for updating us on Rolanda's itinerary. How exciting for her.
Cameras - I have an expensive Olympus (can't remember the model #) and hubby has a cheap Kodak (cost $160) - his pics are much better than mine. Probably because he's a better photographer than I am. He even takes great shots on his mobile!

Hello SA8.
Tami, my camera is a Canon IXUS 901S and I love it, Ian from Sydney helped me choose it. They have come down a lot in price but that does not even bother me otherwise I would never had got all my great pics when I visited and met the Mebournites last May.

I left a quick message on Easy this morning but didn't have time to visit here. I mentioned that MIL was back in hospital and there were problems with my Mum. Thanks to Gail and Heidi for your concern.
Went to visit MIL - she has Chronic Heart Failure (no surprises there) but this time the doctors say there's not much they can do, they've tweaked her meds as best they can. So it's basically a waiting game, as it has been for years with her. I believe she is alive through sheer will-power. She looked awful when we got there today but perked up with our visit. She is a public patient (no Health Insurance) and that is a huge worry because our Health system in Qld is in severe meltdown. I won't elaborate - would take too long but am sure Broni and Nola would agree.
Mum, on the other hand has suffered twice in the last few days with severe facial bruising. the first time the staff do not know what happened, they found her on her bed with the bruising starting. The second time was noticed but happened so quickly that the staff could not stop it. A man was standing over her, she pushed him away (they don't like strangers invading their space) and he hit her in the face. We are going to make an official complaint to the facility but are stressing that we are not blaming the staff (they are just wonderful and have suffered so much from the Four Corners episode) but suggesting that the facility stretch their already tight budgets to include better monitoring (CCTV? bedroom doors which cannot be entered without a code or card?). Can imagine nothing will be done and moving her is not an option.
Lord - let me live long enough to be a worry to my children (I once thought that was amusing).

Oh Cyn, my heart goes out to you. I understand the worry of not being able to 'do anything', we are reliant of those nursing angles that are never really appreciated enough, let alone our teachers up in Qld.
Not to take away from what you are going thru but at one time I was caring for both my parents in their home and sleeping on a two seater couch, at one stage it was not uncommon to have the ambulance out three times a week and I was still holding down a full time job.
Take care my friend, I am only a call away if you need to talk.
Yep Stocktake, Debtors, Creditors and now I have to change a full years payroll for the directors and their wives.
Life is still good!

Cyn, thought are winging their way to you. Hope your MIL doesn't suffer too much at this time.
With luck your mother will not remember these attacks and will not be affected too much. (This may sound callous, but if she doesn't remember then she will not become unsettled in the home) Hopefully the home will beable to contain the offending man in his own room.

Cyn, I am so very sorry to hear about what your mother is going through. I hope her safety can be more assured in the future.
My thoughts are with you both while your MIL goes through this stage of her illness. It is the same thing as my mother had, and I hope her time can be made as comfortable as was my mother's.

CynB, thinking of you dear. I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you, having Mom and MIL both needing you at same time.
How terrible that your Mom has been attacked in her nursing home. I do hope they can contain that man who is doing the hitting. I wonder, is he hitting others there? Is possible he could be moved to a more secure facility? I wonder if pressing charges against the man would get him the kind of accommodations he needs. Even if he is another Alzheimers patient, I think what he did is still a crime. HUGS to you and your Mom.

Yes, with congestive heart failure, it is just a matter of time. That was what My Mom had. I am thinking of your MIL and your family, all of you, and sending HUGE HUGS>

Cyn.... Congestive heart failure is how we lost my MIL. She suffered from COPD after beating lung cancer. Gil was at her side when she passed, and said that she went very peacefully. I hope it's peaceful and easy for your MIL.
I also hope the Nursing Home can do something about that abusive man. They really will not have many options after that story. He'll hopefully get kicked out of the Home. He is probably not mentally competent to stand trial for assault.
What a nightmare this all is for you!

Busy weekend here. Had to bring Bryana to work at the Jazz Festival first thing Saturday and Sunday morning. Afterward, hubby and I looked for a new air con and other various shopping. Two girls from Brendan's college stopped by since they came up for the Jazz Fest. He took them to the Drive-in since they had never been. Ian's grammar school class had a reunion and the kids have changed so much in just a few of years! Finally heard from Meghan yesterday. Apparently her phone doesn't get reception in Hungary(it's supposed to) and she borrowed a computer and emailed me yesterday. She's on her way to the vineyard today and I think she is going to the beaches in Croatia sometime.

I see there's been some camera conversation but I haven't gone back to see where it started. I have a Minolta Maxxum 7 35mm, a Fuji Finepix S602Z digital, an Olympus FE-210 digital, and a Canon EOS 50D. I hardly ever use my 35mm any more. I use the Olympus when I'm skiing or someplace I need a camera in my pocket. I always have it with me. The Fuji digital used to be the camera I used for everything. It takes great pictures and is great for sports. I couldn't find another small camera of that caliber. It's old and would occasionally not work, so I got a new camera, the Canon, at Christmas. The Canon is a big camera that takes semi-professional shots. I use that one all the time now.
