Hi SA8ers!! Had a great day with my friend Janet...she & I try to get together a couple of times a month, had a nice lunch & shopping. Darrell came home Monday nite from work not feeling well...sick all day Tuesday & went to the doctor today...had a G.I. infection...got meds, starting to feel better...we usually go out on Thursday...told him to take it easy & see how he feels tomorrow...if not, we can go out Friday instead...he had lots of trouble keeping food down. He's slept alot, but the doctor said that was a good idea...I'll keep you posted, I know you guys/gals will keep him in your thoughts. Gotta go to bed soon, ttfn everyone!

SUZANNE, hope your hubby is soon all better again. Must be some nasty GI bug to do him in that long.
It is bed time here at my house. I am tired today, no known reason, but I think a good night's sleep is what I need.

Afternoon all!
I think it's time for me to have another rest. I sat here for several minutes trying to work out EOFY. When I did I groaned at my slow brain... think I will go and read some more Twilight...

My daughter has just finished reading the final Harry Potter book (mine, she doesn't buy them herself). It's been her practice to read the book in the weeks prior to the film being released and she finished Book 6 a week ago and rushed over to get book 7 because she couldn't handle the suspense for another year. When she finished that she rang me up and said - I want more, she has to write more! Did anyone else feel that way? (I did)

Hi everyone! Hope you're all well.
Mama and Gail - thinking of you, sending sympathy and hugs.
CynB - love the Harry Potter books! I think the movies are good (except for the werewolf bit - don't think that worked at all!) but the books are just great reading. Haven't read Twilight, though I've also heard it's good. I read a lot of fantasy books, but I do think a lot of writers just don't know when to stop! Can't wait for the new HP movie to come out though.

Me, either, Judy. I'll be going alone on the first day if I can't find anyone to come with me. Daughter is studying so is not always available and grandies will be back at school. Hubby not interested (so what's new, he never goes to the movies).

Hah! My hubbie will go whether he's interested or not! Can't wait! :D
But I think I've said it before - for one writer to create such an amazing impression on kids (ok, and adults!) is just incredible. So many kids who never read a book before have plowed through all the HP books - and if Twilight also gets them reading then I say "Fantastic!"
Ok, climbing off my soapbox ... ;)

Better go and shop now - yes I always leave it to the last minute! Didn't put my watch on this morning, and then I started on the new Sims 3 - before I knew it it was getting dark outside - how did that happen? So, must venture into the cold and dark - catch you all later. :)

Cyn and Judy, I am really enjoying Twilight. I wouldn't go as far as saying it grabbed me the way HP did, but I have read over 300 pages so far today. If you saw the movie, I'm up to the baseball game, which means it's supposed to get scary now.
I don't really like the HP movies, I much prefer the books. Book 7 was the best and I too wanted another one!

I had a very upsetting phone call from the mother of one of my friends last night. This friend has been in and out of hospital for the last 2 1/2 years with severe abdominal pains. At one point the hospital refered her to the mental health deparment who told her that the pain was all in her mind. Eventually, last New Year she had an op to remove a cyst from her ovaries which had also adhered to the bowel. We all thought that all would be well now, but no she was still having the severe pain. She has been in and out of hospital a few times this year again, eventually they sent her for a full body scan which showed up a mass, they operated on her a week past Tuesday, removed three 'lumps' from her bowel, sent them off for biopsy (Not sure if they even have the results back from that yet). On Monday evening I received a text from her 17yr old daughter saying that she had to go back to theatre as an emergency. Her mother called last night to say that she wasn't operated on until yesterday morning as she wasn't in a stable condition before, and that my friend is now in Intensive care. The bowel had not 'knit' after the op and had been leaking into the body cavity. She is now critically ill with septicemia and the next 48 hours will be critical. We are all so angry that this has happened especially after the way she was dismissed with 'it's all in your mind'
Vent over thanks for listening.

Oh Brenda - how awful about your friend's condition and what negligence. It seems health care is not up to scratch anywhere.
She'll be in my thoughts.
Thanks, Suzy, for the info on Twilight. I may get around to reading it. It seems my grandies must be just a bit young for it. They haven't mentioned any interest. Well, only Lachlan is interested in HP even, the girls think it's 'scary'.

I sometimes think that Doctors should have their licenses suspended for claiming that "It's all in [the patients] mind". That just means that they're too lazy and uncaring to look, and too callous to care. It seems like a violation of the Hippocratic Oath. And VERY few people are that mentally unstable. If there is no suspicion of severe mental illness, they need to believe their patients!!!!!
(sorry.... I lost a dear friend to septicemia under very similar conditions, including 3 badly done surgeries.)

I have to leave in 25 minutes for the Vet Clinic. Raleigh spent the night in a crate, so he just has to be put in a carrier. Lucky already has his travel collar on, and just has to be loaded in the truck. Those two are in for a shock!

SA8ers! Darrell is feeling much better today, thanks for all the good wishes! Doctor told him to be careful what he eats/drinks (no citrus juices--rats, my favorite). He was getting up 3-4 times for the last 3 nights, so of course, I slept like
and got up at 6 this morning...gonna need a nap later I think...

CynB: I totally agree about Harry Potter!!! LOVED the series, Darrell bought me the books from Barnes & Noble...I read a lot of CSI-type books, James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell. Someone I knew when I worked for Prudential in California had lent the HP books to me, he bought them for his daughter. I've read all 7 books and LOVED them and was hungry for more. Haven't read Twilight yet, want to, but have not picked up a book since I came home from Florida...I sometimes take LONG breaks between books, plus I want to finish my current needlepoint soon.

I'm back. The 2 boys
are at the Vet's. Lucky held off being carsick until I unloaded him from the back seat of the truck. Normally, he baptizes the truck within 2 minutes. He'll probably be too groggy to get carsick when I bring him home this afternoon.

OH BRENDA, what a terrible thing to happen to your friend and her family. I too am most unhappy when doctors do not listen to a patient. Most people do not invent severe pain, and a doc should listen!
I once had 2 months of severe pain, two docs said " It's only a little cyst, it cannot hurt like that". Well, after exploratory surgery, I had the surgeon come into my room and apologize to me, things they could not see had caused that one little cyst to be most painful. The GP never apologized, and I found a new doc after that.
I am sending wishes for the best outcome possible for your friend, what has happened to her is just so tragic and unnecessary.

Brenda, my prayers for your friend. Sounds even worse than Sharon with her burst appendix.
D1 gave me Twilight and New Moon to read but somehow I could not get into it. She loved them.
I have seen the baseball clip from the film.
Very tired so off to bed. Nite All.

I will not take any pictures of him now. He's going through a stage that Collie breeders call "the Uglies". Different bits of the body and head grow at different rates. He looks more like Quasimodo than a nice collie. One day everything miraculously comes together and they're beautiful. Lucky hasn't gotten to that point yet.

Hi there everyone.I woke at a slightly better time this morning but still not great.
We had an enjoyable day with the boys. One thing about them, they are very well mannered.
Brenda...I hope your friend can get over this!I shake my head to think it was avoidable if they had listened.Best wishes to her.
Suppose the dogs are done now Heidi, and you will be picking them up soon.
Suzanne..glad Darrell is feeling better.Had a laugh when I mistook that he couldn't eat rats.
What on earth is EOFY.I will probably crawl into a hole when I find out.

UNUSUAL WEATHER:
Today it is 89 degrees, a nice temp for July. The dew point is 58, very low for this time of year, making the relative humidity 35%, again very low for us. But that is not the strangest, we have a wind of 8 miles an hour and that is enough to give us a WIND CHILL FACTOR so that the feels like temp is 87. Wind chill? In July? hehehe, It is a lovely day though, really nice today. Laundry dried in a wink today.

Hello, SA8. Can't believe I got here for a few minutes - and it's still early afternoon.
Brenda, sending prayers for your friend. Some doctors do some awful things to their patients.
Suzanne, hope Darrell is feeling better.
Still have too many pages to read, but I hope Rolanda is thoroughly enjoying her China trip!
Heidi, hope the 2 "boys" are recovering nicely. I had never thought about parts of dogs growing at different rates. When I was teaching, I sometimes notices that between fifth and seventh grade, many of the children went through some, shall we say, "less than attractive" stages.
Nola, I'm glad you had an enjoyable time with the boys (not Heidi's, of course).
