It seems that SA7 is getting old and slow. It is time for a new page. Welcome to SA8.

Suzy, remember to look in the kids' section - that seems to be where all the good books are! ;)
Or am I just showing my immaturity ... meh, can't help it! I like sci-fi/fantasy, but the new books all seem to go with the "more is better" idea - if a book isn't 500+ pages long you're just not getting your money's worth. I'm currently reading the "Night Angel" trilogy - I've found the way to get reading done is to stay in bed until ... late. This seems to be working - I'm up to book 3 already. :)

A thought about fantasy books - how many of them have a man in a hooded cloak on the front cover? Last time I looked I saw at least five. Seems we're over the "dragon" phase and into the "hooded man" phase. Wonder what's next?

Hi Judy! Who writes "Night Angel"? I've never heard of it. I really want to read the Twilight series, but my local (tiny) library has a waiting list a mile long!!

Hi all! Hope all is well with everyone. Don't have time to catch up. Heard from Meghan today and she found really cheap tickets to Rome, so she's going there for a few days. I'm sure she is thrilled! It has been raining nonstop here and we haven't had to use an air conditioner since we bought a new one! The rest of the kids are all in the house, which causes friction since everyone wants to be the boss. Not doing anything for the 4th, Bryana and Brendan are working. Bryana is working at the REO Speedwagon/ Styx concert. She doesn't even know who they are. Off to bed. I'll try to catch up tomorrow(if I don't get sucked into looking at photos and organizing them - somehow hours just disappear!!) Have a great day/night!

Hi Suzanne, Judy and Stella. It is a lovely winrters day here. Currently about 16*c with a wind blowing. I am in short sleeves.
This morning I found a bird tangled in the net on the grapefruit tree (put there to unsucessfully stop the white cockatoos pulling the grapefruit of the tree) I untangled it but it's wing is damaged so it is not running around my sun room. The warmest room in the house.
Stella, with your busy family I am surprised you even find time to get to your computer. I am sure Meghan will enjoy Rome. (might even get her bottom pinched!)

Suzy - congrats to your Mum and Ally.
Stella - hope Meaghan enjoys Rome (what's not to like?) That's the beauty of Europe, air fares are cheap. One of my nephews and his wife are working in the Middle East (he's an engineer and she's an architect). When they get days off, they just hop across the Mediterranean to Greece or Italy or wherever. Cool!

I'm with you Suzanne: when you read an actual book you have to concentrate properly, plus you can go back and reread bits.
The "Night Angel" trilogy is by Brent Weeks, a new author. It's gory, blood-thirsty etc. (not for kids!), but I'm enjoying it. I think it's made the "best-seller" lists, but definitely not everyone's cup of tea.
Before that I read "The Whisper of Leaves" by a new Australian author K.S.Nikakis, (birthday present) - more fantasy, but completely different; also "Sharpe's Eagle" by Bernard Cornwell - has anyone else seen the Sharpe series on TV, starring the gorgeous Sean Bean? Next on my shelf is "The Time Traveller's Wife" - I've had it for a while, but haven't got around to reading it, but I hear they're making a movie of it, so I'll try to read it first.
Sorry to be boring - I once thought about being a librarian - does it show? ;)

Hi June, not such a lovely winter's day here -COLD and pouring with rain! Hope your bird recovers - they look so pathetic when they're injured.
Rob is currently planning our next trip, and it looks as if Italy is the place for us - somewhere to recover after the wedding. The man really loves to travel!

It's a nice clear wintry day here in Brissie. They say it's 19 deg but I'd like to know where - not here - it's about 16 deg, which I know by others standards isn't cold. But it sure seems it. We're up for a few cold nights now - down to 6 deg - fireplace weather. It's windy here too.

Italy does sound nice, but personally I'd rather see it when the weather is a bit warmer - the trips he's looking at are in mid-October. It may be ok, but I would hate to get bad weather spoiling things.

Heidi, you're probably right. I guess I just thought that when I saw Italy it would be in golden sunshine, etc. Our other option was Greece, but Rob's heard some not so good things about that trip, so ... Italy it is!
Anyway, as long as I see Pompeii, etc. who cares about the weather! :)

Judy - I was in Italy in early October (1996) and it wasn't too bad. I can remember the day we visited the Vatican in particular was steaming hot but it was cold in Venice by then.
What have you heard about Greece that's bad? I loved it but then I have a Greek heritage.

Hello, Friends! Whooopee! I have finally made it to page 280, so I'm closing in on the correct day. I wanted to lift a glass to Molly and Sully with everyone.

Suzy, congrats to Ebob on getting a job. I just heard that in the U.S. minimum wage (depending on the number of employees, etc.) has just been increased to $8 an hour. I hope it is similar there.

Hey CynB, nothing bad about Greece! - I think it was the actual trips Rob was looking at that people said weren't as good as they expected, also that some of them might not be running as often at that time of year. Something like that. Anyway Italy was the first choice, and the tour people said it shouldn't be a problem. No, we'll "do" Greece another time when we have a better choice of tours. Well, that's the plan, anyway! :)
All those years of studying "Fine Arts" (Art History) at Uni - I wonder if I'll remember any of it!

Hi folks.
Haven't read yet but here is today's rolalogue...

July 3rd Lijiang
This morning they were to drive up to the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain [5500 meters above sea-level] and take a cable car up to the glacier. After that they were to visit the Blue lake and explore the smaller Shuhe old town.
Hope she was warmly dressed for the higher altitude.

...and now I am outta here

It appears that I've missed everyone.

Stella, I'm glad to hear that Meghan is feeling better and has been able to visit Hungary and heading to Rome. When does she arrive home? I'm glad Brendan and Bryana are able to get some work this summer. (I had heard that summer jobs would be difficult to get this year.)

Anyone out there?
I suppose all you Aussies are flinging. I'm waiting for (gourmet) pizzas to be delivered - feeling lazy tonight. I'm having pear, blue cheese and walnut pizza - yummo.

Stella, I would like to have a word to you young lady. What kind of a parent are you that you find it acceptable to raise children who don't know who REO Speedwagon and Styx are? You are sadly neglecting their education....

June, I hope the bird recovers quickly.

Judy, that sounds exactly like the type of book Ebob would like to read!

Julie, here the minimum wage depends on your age. It used to be it increased until you were 21, I'm not sure if it's the same now. She will start somewhere between $6.50 and $7.50 an hour. If you work somewhere like McDonald's here, unless you work in a position that requires a bit more maturity, your hours start disappearing once you turn 17.
