It seems that SA7 is getting old and slow. It is time for a new page. Welcome to SA8.

Thanks Zusy, have never looked at before so any help would be appreciated from y'all.
Julie, I have not thawed out for a couple of months, at least the days are getting longer.

Hi Gail, didn't see you there. It would have been wonderful to have you mum online. Have you talked your dad into it yet?

MIL has been in an assisted living facility with 3 meals daily for about 4 years. Past 2 years she has been on a floor with 24-hour nurses aide (not nurse). We pay $100 a month for her medications to be administered to her, as she was getting confused about what she had taken or if she had taken anything, and probably sometimes double-dosing. It's an older facility and sometimes has that tell-tale odor, but she chose it, and it's where she wants to be. She'll be 95 in a few months. Luckily, she is essentially healthy, as this facility does not have nursing care. Unfortunately, she is showing more signs of confusion & we aren't sure if there is any room in the 1 wing where they have a few Alzheimer-type residents. We keep our fingers crossed.

You didn't want to topp Broni?

Julie, that week away sounds great, I think. You weren't where the temps were so high were you?

Aha, Gail snuck in & Suzy & Broni were chatting while I typed! Hi, Gail! Suzy, I certainly understand what you mean by funny and sad. It's the way we feel. We just hope we can keep up with technology as we age!

My heart goes out to you Julie, but she sure has had a good innings. JD's mum was in an older facility but the care factor was incredible.

Julie, your MIL sounds fantastic. My great grandmother checked herself into a 'nursing home' when she was 72 because she wasn't going to be a burden on her children. It was one of those places with graduated care. She started off in her own room looking after herself with a dining room for meals. She had her first operation at 94, went into real nursing type care at about 97. She lived until 99.5, just a few months off getting a telegram from the queen.

No, Suzy, our week away was in western Massachusetts, with temperatures most days in the 70's to 80's F. Younger D encourages us to stay away from Texas in the summer due to the heat.

Suzy, your family must have great genes! Wow! Nearly 100 for your great grandmother! MIL's oldest sister died about 10 years ago, but sister that was about 18 months older just died about a month ago at age 96. They were very close, so we have been a bit concerned.

Much better temps Julie. I don't mind the occasional 100 degree day, but days and days on end can get to be too much.

I remember when I knew more about computers than my contemporaries. Those were the days! It's been about 10 years since I lost track of all the new fandangled stuff...

We were slow to get mobile telephones, but got new ones this spring and are getting to know more about them. We still haven't started sending & getting text messages yet, though I guess we should try that, too.

OMG, I just looked at the time - nearly 1:30 a.m. here. Sorry, Broni & Suzy (& Gail, if you're still about). I really MUST get to bed. It's been great chatting!

Also going to say Good Night to Heidi! I haven't seen a post from her since earlier, but she often heads to bed around this time.

Enjoy the rest of your day, DUGS!

I use text messages constantly now Julie - here safe etc etc. It's much cheaper than calling with the plan I have. I use mine to call my mother as I have a free hour. Needless to say the phone company is trying to get me to change plans....

Night Julie! Sending thoughts and wishes that your MIL makes it to 100 without needing the Alzheimers wing...

Not sure about the good genes though. My father only made it to 37...

Wow, I missed a lot of you in the past few hours. Hi Julie, Broni, Suzy, Judy and Gail.
Julie - your MIL must have been doing well to get to nearly 95 - surely if she's showing signs of confusion, she should get first option on the higher care section of her facility.
Broni dear - I've not been able to read over a lot of the pages I missed in the last few weeks, sorry to hear you haven't been well. Some time off should give you a rest.

Nite Julie.
Broni - yes, it has been cold and I'm sick of it. When's summer?
Just heard the dog bark and went out to find her chasing a tree snake (about 2 ft long), it slithered in behind the block retaining wall. Are they dangerous? Normally they don't bother me but I don't want one to bite the dog or even more importantly my grandies.

No, I really don't think it is his thing at all, he absolutely hated it when my sis gave him her old mobile for those 'just in case' moments, but the first time something went wrong, that was a good excuse for him to dice it!
I thought Mum might be a maybe because over the years (twice in twenty years!) I have had Mum in front of a pooter.
The first time was when my sisters and I were going out for the day, and Mum was at my house, I needed something to keep her occupied! So I set her up with Mahjongg, and showed her how to get a new game each time etc. We went out to the shops and came back a couple of hours later, and she was still there, glued to the game, and refusing to believe we had been away so long!
"Where did the time go?" she said!

Night Julie, sorry I missed you. Sleep well.
re Texting, it saves a lot of time and we are of an age where it will not become an addiction like it has in GenY.

Broni, cold here too, but more due to the wind than the temp.

The second time was more recently, probably in the last couple of years, I showed Mum how to 'surf the net'! I showed her the search engine, and told her she could type just about anything and she would get a result. There were things relative to her that she had an interest in like the WAAFs, some of the towns where she has lived etc, and she was loving it. I think the pooter chewed up another couple of hours there too!
She wouldn't have needed too fancy a set up, just email, a chat site and the net.

I'm back so you're leaving...

I think the thing that convinced my mother was search engines. She'd ask me something and I'd say I didn't know but let's look. I would then get phone calls asking me to look things up! I think getting jokes by email was appealing too...

Hmmm, there are common (green) tree snakes, but also brown, banded and flying tree snakes. The green one is completely non-venomous, the brown one has venom but is harmless to humans unless it chews us while it's biting.... No help at all!

This was a green one, Suzy. Harmless but I'd still rather keep the dog and kids away from it.
That said, yes, Broni, I DO like snakes. I love the feel of them. Any chance I get to touch a snake, I do. That's what worries me about my grandies, they have no fear of them either, but, hopefully know not to touch them in the wild.

When the sisters were over we ended up going through my photo box in search of one particular pic. It was like stepping back in time! You reminded me of a photo that was found, which was of me, at 14, holding many snakes (I think, may have been one big one, I've blocked it out!).
BTW We did find the photo we were looking for, it was in the very last handful!

Hi to you all,
Brenda the murders were not all that far away and in fact there is a photo of Laura on my page where she has just come down a red circular slide and it was taken at the park straight across the road from where it happened. His newsagent shop was next door to my hairdresser and I had been in there a couple of times and been served by them. We live in a lovely, friendly tree lined neighbourhood and it has been quite a shock to everyone. You should have seen all the helicopters overhead on Saturday!
Brenda I am pleased there has been a slight improvement with your friend. Talking of friends, how is Celia getting on?

Suzy, did Gail tell you to added some alcoholic flavour to the Ripple cake? The success of that cake is in the cutting (at an angle to the biscuits!)
Julie, I love all your stained glass avatars. Question is.did you do the stained glass work?
Heidi and Tami, travel safe and enjoy the Fionafest. I wish I could join you all.

Stella, I only painted the fascia boards at my daughters place but have to do around all the doorways at MIL's unit. Another 95 year old but she is now going to live with her daughter and will rent out her unit. She has trouble getting about (especially as the unit is on the first floor) but is very mentally alert.
Suzy I finished reading 'Twilight' but do not think I will start the next one. As I told my daughter (nearly your age ) I think I am past wanting to read about school girls falling in love with Vampires, I was a bit the same about Harry Potter. I read the first book, enjoyed it but was not interested in reading any more.

I used to have a photo of me holding some snakes on my page, but when I checked I have removed it!
Suzy, your Mum should not have trouble using a computer. She is younger than me and MizT and others on these pages.
I have also sent a message to Rena to make sure she is not affected by the fires at Kelowna as I think she lives only about 80 miles from there.

Good afternoon. June that was a little too close for comfort. I haven't heard if anyone has been caught for the murders or if there was a motive.
Celia is doing ok. There are lots of things she cannot do now, such as her crosswords and even concentrating on reading a book. She can read newspapers so she may improve. she does have weakness in her hand so can't open bottles etc. She has accepted her limitations and is getting on with life. I will not say she is the same as before as her attitude to people has changed. She is very 'me' orientated now.
