Need to take Brendan to the docs. It's snowing, sleeting and raining, all at the same time!

Thanks Vici for the link! Sent a message to Suzy for the page.

What, 6ft tall at 7? Is that possible? Must go back and read the details!

Hi all, I have been away from home for a few days with hubby and had no laptop with me or internet connection either. I was just going to post before reading all the pages of chat. I'm pleased, and saddened, that I decided to read or I wouldn't have found out about Ruby.
I haven't heard anything more from Ray's friend, but am hoping that Ray himself will be well enough soon to contact everyone via Sudoku.

Hi Stella, we had a nice break even though it was cold. From what I have read not as cold as you have been experiencing. I know it was cols as Richard actually bought some gloves.. he never feels the cold.

Oh Stella - thank you for clearing that up for me! Duh! I keep demonstrating for you all how EASILY confused I get...the secret is out!
Brenda - your little get-away sounded very nice...but then I love the cold. Must have been pleasant after all the activity in your home when it was under construction.

Mariana, I can eat 41 shrimp! I have eaten more than that on one occasion! On a sail boat, in Pensacola Bay, after a day of sailing, and shrimp boiled in sea water. There were plenty and more shrimp, 20 pounds were bought and cooked. One of the crew even came and removed the shells for me, so I did not have to waste time! My ex was sooo embarrassed, did not speak to me for a week after that trip, me, making a pig of myself, but they were sooooo good, and everyone else said they were glad I enjoyed myself! I had a plate piled as high as one can pile just of the shells, huumm, shells is not the word I want, but the correct one escapes me. Next morning I asked if any shrimp were left over ( how did I miss any of them hehe) and I had those for Breakfast!

did I say I LOVE SHRIMP?

Oh Mama Mia Mariana! Hope Elsa isn't too sick.
MzT - I love shrimp too, and your story gave me a hankering for them...especially the part about the horseradish cocktail sauce! YUM!
Off to my Chiro appointment - roads are very slick, lots of black ice so I am leaving with plenty of time to go slowly to my destination.

I too love shrimp with horseradish cocktail sauce. I can only eat a few fried, and then I wish I hadn't. Do NOT like grease.
Mariana... when I was up (?) earlier, I was too sleepy to correct Vici's mistake. I KNEW it was Zachary who was so tall.... almost as big as Benny. And this wasn't the first time you've mistaken me for Vici. I consider that a complement. She's lovely.

Sorry about that Suzy, I'm sure you will remember in time.
why will d1 have to drop some sport? Will her school timetable not allow her time to do everything she wants?

Her report card this year was her worst ever. Her grades weren't bad, but they were not as good as usual. The 'worst' part was from the comments about work not handed in, casual attitude and so on.... We had a lot on this year and I'm wondering if that contributed.

Oh dear. How old is she? I should know but my memory is ****.
I know from the age of 14 we had problems with Emily, but she didn't do lots of outside activities.
Se had always been able to do the work without effort but when more effort was needed she didn't put it in, so we have had to nag at her ever since. Em is in her final year before hopefully going off to university

Ir is now mid afternoon. Maybe I should get busy and take care of a few critters. Only it is one ugly day out there. Just at freezing. Damp. Foggy.

Suzy... Ebob seems to have a pretty good head on her shoulders. Why not just ask her what she thinks the problem is?

Em and Ebob seem to have a lot in common - except for the outside activities bit. Ebob has always been able to coast through, getting good results with little effort. I've nagged about 'when the work gets harder you won't get away with this', including comments like 'if you can get this kind of result after forgetting you had a test, imagine what you could get if you actually studied' and then there's the old one, 'do you realise it's your future you're playing with here?' But she does too much, gym on tue, baseball training wed, bowling fri, baseball sun. Plus coming to some of d2s stuff too.

I can see there could be a problem with time, especially if there is a lot of time consuming travel involved. As Heidi suggests see if she knows what the problem is. Then maybe suggest that if she doesn't improve her results that she will have to drop some of the more pleasurable pass times.
We are going to have to lay the law down harder with Em after Christmas break. She only has roughly 15-16 weeks before her final exams, on top of that she is resitting some exams next month to hopefully get a better grade.

Here they don't get a chance to resit exams. It's make or break with one set. She'll be in Year 10 next year, and I am told the amount of work will substantially increase. I think that may be a scare tactic though as I have heard kids say they were surprised when it didn't happen... Not going to tell her that!

Heidi is probably right. I need to sit down with her and work on it. The first thing that I think will come up is a new desk...

Re-sitting exams are not always possible here either, but when they are allowed we have to pay for them. The education system here has been mucked about with so much that the kids have important exams in yrs 11,12 and 13. Not so important ones in years 3, 6 and 10. These lesser exams are really to see how the schools are performing and, in my opinion, they put too much pressure on the kids.
