i love seeing the talk about air conditioning, pools and massive heat. here there is a foot of snow on the ground and i have a blazing fire heating me up. it seems so strange that the holidays can be spent cooling off in the pool!!

i'm listening to the awful sounds of "rock band." i guess my boys fancy themselves as rock stars and daisy-9 is the band drummer. too bad the song choices are all heavy metal. i guess a little mozart would be too difficult for them to play on a guitar.

June, I think Foxtel / Austar will be losing some customers, and good! I do not like the way they operate - twice bitten in my case

Afternoon all! I haven't been able to get on much today - good thing with my resolution and everything....

Heidi, 2 hours since you said you were going to bed, hope tonight is 'attack' free.

Rena, a sledding party sounds like fun!

Mariana, I love the sound of your rock band. You should record them for us.

June, 2 weeks to hope the tadpoles stay alive... I wonder if you will get to see them change into frogs??

too bad my family's version of rock band is the x-box game of "guitar hero world tour." i wish they could do it for real, but at least they are playing the video games together and not fighting. benny-17 does play some normal acustic guitar. when he sings and plays i am in mommy heaven. he is better than he knows. i am off to bed. so sleepy here! good night!

We're off for dinner. We said we would go out as a family when the tax return came through and are only just getting around to it. Should be yummy....

Mariana - don't despair over your son's music choices! My son sang with a choir for years - by the time his voice broke he absolutely hated music, didn't even listen to the radio. After a while he got into heavy metal (oh, my ears!), then started listening to blues, Tom Waits etc. At Uni he was in a lot of musicals ...., and eventually found his way back to classical! So, as long as they're still playing and listening to music, don't worry too much about the type!

Another bad night. My leg was killing me. Fortunately, I leave in 15 minutes for an appointment with the surgeon who worked on that leg.

mariana - I wouldn't have known what "rock band" was (I'm SO out of the "latest" loop!), but I was visiting my brother and his family on Christmas day (via Skype) and was cracking up watching them play (with my 88 year old dad asleep on the couch!)

It has been bitter cold here! In the single digits with a wind chill in the minus(ie: -13F) Ian went out sleigh riding even tho I told him it was too cold, and he came back with swollen cheeks. Boys just don't listen!

Hi Stella - how's it going in your neck of the woods?
I'm heading out early for a doc appointment - just a meet and greet...trying to find a decent family doc.
Then I'm off for a day of fun down the mountain with my girlfriend. We're doing a bit of shopping (I get to pick up my new bifocal glasses!) and then visiting her daughter who just bought her first house.

Good morning Vici!

Mariana, I know what you mean about the hard rock music. Ian got "Guitar Hero" for Xmas for his computer (we don't have any xbox, playstation, wii) and he's been playing it 24/7! Unfortunately, his computer is right next to mine!

Except for church, I've been staying in my warm house. The girls want to go shopping before they head back to school, so we'll probably hit the Malls today, or at least the bookstore! Bryana wants to get more books! She only got about 12 for Xmas and I wouldn't be surprised if she's done with most of them by now!

HEIDI, I hope you get some relief from that leg pain after seeing the doctor today.

GAIL, thoughts and prayers to you, your Mum and all your family.

STELLA, that is cold! Come on down to Alabama for a visit. Today is mid 50's, tomorrow mid 60's and Sunday forecast for 70. You will have to contend with some showers and clouds, so bring your umbrella.

Today is take down the Christmas tree. should have been yesterday, but I never got the boxes down. I am over half finished, should be able to get that done before lunch. I really hate taking down the tree, it leaves a big "hole" in my living room, and sure makes the room seem dark without the lights. I guess I shall get out my little fake palmetto that has lights, and put that up till spring. Not near as many lights, but just a bit of light in that corner of the room helps. January and Feburary are the months of gloom here and I have to really work at staying busy and happy. BUT the days are already getting longer YEAH!

Morning all!

Stella, those sort of temperatures are obscene. d1 is the same with books, but they are so expensive here! You can pay $25 for a paperback - at least for the books d1 wants. Even with those prices books are taking over our house. We go to the town library, but they rarely have the books in. Late last year she discovered that the school library almost always has the books she wants.

Heidi, by my calcs you should be close to home by now. Could the surgeon help you?

MizT, I hate taking down the tree, but for different reasons. I love Xmas and don't like it to end. I am thinking about taking down bits of Xmas, but not the tree yet.

Vici, I'm thinking about getting bifocals this year. Most of the time I don't need them, but every now and then.... Then there's the taking off your glasses all the time thing. It would be noice to be able to walk around the grocery store and read labels without putting my glasses on and off.

I tried varifocal glasses a couple of years ago Suzy, but they made me feel ill if I wore them too long. I can sit at the computer using them but walking round was hopeless. Fortunately I can read without my specs.

I have taken some of my xmas cards down today, but will leave it until Monday (my brothers birthday, he will be 62) to take the rest of the decorations down. I know what you mean MizT about taking the tree down leaving a big 'hole'.

Hi Brenda, hubby is about to try multifocal (I think that's what they call them) contact lenses. When he gets his act together and makes the appointment that is... I figure I'll keep my reading glasses for the computer and use the bifocals at other times. Like you, I don't need them all the time, though it is getting harder to read books and newspapers without them.

I received a Xmas card yesterday! It doesn't feel right to take it down after only one day...

I've never heard of multifocal contact lenses. My youngest daughter has just treated herself to contact lenses. She got them about three weeks ago, and had to go for a check up last week, only to find that she had been putting them into the wrong eyes. She thought the slight blurring she was having was her just getting used to the lenses. We all had a laugh when she told us what she had done.

That's so funny Brenda! But when you think about it, how would you know which was which? You would have to be so careful about the way you put them away... I'll have to warn hubby about that one!!

The actual lenses or the container Brenda? Because that makes it even funnier that she had them in the wrong eyes! Though when you think about it, if you need contact lenses to see, how do you read the markings! hehe
