Bettas are easy to tell apart. The colors of the females aren't so dramatic, and the fins are shorter.

Good morning lovely SA7 people.
Gail - thanks for letting me know about my pic on the hard jigsaw - actually I must admit it (and the others I have submitted) are hubby's pics taken, not with a good digital camera but with the camera in his Nokia phone!
Heidi - sorry about losing your animals. Sad about the lamb and the ewe. That horse sounds like he thinks he's human. I'm still blown away by the link yesterday to the story of the elephant and the dog.

Vici - sorry about your back troubles. It seems that once a person gets a bad back, it's there for life. Hubby has had back problems since his early 20's and my sister, a retired nurse, always had back problems but since she bought a house last year with a heated pool and swims at least once a day for 10 months of the year, her back has given her little trouble.

All of these extremes in temperatures - it's hard to decide which would be worse. I know I can't stand the really hot, humid weather but I have no idea how I would fare in the freezing weather since the only time I have ever encountered snow was in Switzerland. I'm a tropical beach girl - or I was until the ravages of time made me more of a beached whale.

Heidi, I suspect the Bettas for sale where we got ours were all males - more impressive? Now can't resist googling to see the difference! Ours are in separate tanks in the girls' rooms. Today is water freshening day....

The ewe is gone.
Sheep just get it in their silly heads that they're gonna die, and they do.

Suzy.... most pet shops don't even sell females. Very few people want them, but you can keep females together. They don't have to be separated to prevent fighting.
IH just got me aggravated.... again. I was unloading feed from my truck into the feed room in the barn. IH came up and asked if he could help. I said "sure, I need the scratch grains and the cat food unloaded." He promptly unloaded the 3 bags of dog food and put them in the barn. The dog food goes in the house, and always has. Did NOT unload the feed I needed unloaded. When I discovered what he'd done, I told him to put the dog food back in the truck. He threw a major tantrum, as if I wasn't grateful for his help, didn't appreciate him. Idiot. I ended up doing it myself.

Julie... that peahen was healthy. Buddy can catch about anything. He used to be my working cow horse. He was quite good at cutting. That means he could move with an animal and anticipate which way it would jump, and beat it there. I have seen him get goats that entered the pasture with him. If you've ever tried to grab a healthy goat out in a big pasture, you'd know that it ain't easy. He's gotten 7 of them that squirmed under the fence. Maybe that's why I love that crazy horse so much.

Broni, yay! Even the outstanding bill from November?
Cyn, I remember flannel! Though I had forgotten it until you mentioned it.
I had better go and check our animals, and then I think I will read a book...

If you ever get the sudden
Urge to run around naked,
You should sniff some Windex first.
It'll keep you from streaking.

CynB, I would know what a flannel is, I have heard that one before. It must have been in a book I was reading.

MizT - good one
Hubby look like he's going to toss his job in. The truck is broken down more often than it's on the road. I think his boss is a relative of D&D. Hubby's almost ready to start up a home maintenance business - lawns, small mainenance jobs. He's good at all that. After you've been your own boss, it's hard to go back to working, especially if it's for an idiot.
IH, D&D, Col's boss - all

Gail, I bought uniform stuff yesterday - $100 and I didn't buy pants. When did it get to be okay for school pants to fail the squat test? Do young girls really like to show their you know what off to the world?

Heidi was right on about the squat test, almost failed it standing up!
Gail, my girls' text books are supplied in high school (return at the end of the year) so book costs are fairly low. Not so for other expenses though!
MizT, I like being streak-free - don't like to scare the neighbours.
The ladies in the uniform shop suggested that if they wore a size smaller it would be okay - yeah, if they can get them over their hips!

Cyn, it is hard to work for someone else when you're not used to it. I'm guessing the no-worries-after-work isn't enough compensation for the worries-during-work...

Suzy 29c here - warm but not sweltering.
Off to talk to accountant this afternoon about proposed new business (just in hubby's name - I'm retired). If he thinks it sounds OK, we'll go ahead with it and hubby can give in his notice.
This business will not have the expensive machinery and we can set it up for less than $10k. It will start slowly but as long as it brings in enough to keep us going we'll be OK. If it isn't successful, we can sell the equipment and not lose a packet.

Hubby is the kind of person who goes to work to do just that - work! He is so frustrated sitting around for hours waiting for loads, or having a truck that is not serviced properly. In 10 years, our truck was off the road for 2 days once, and only half a day at any other time (very rarely).
