Oh, Heidi - I'm so sorry about your peahen and ewe! And I never heard of a carnivorous horse. Is that a rarity?

Carnivorous horses are a rarity, but they do exist. I have heard of others.

Once a ewe has thrown in the towel as well as shock there is little hope, what rotten luck Heidi.

Welcome back dame eaa!

Heidi, I'm so sorry about your animals. One of the hardest parts of 'farming' I guess.

That horse is strange!

I just attempted an experiment, and it worked! I have a 55 gal. aquarium in my foyer (visible from this chair) full of Guppies I also had a male and female Betta in there, with lots of plants and driftwood hiding places. I decided to see what would happen if I put another male Betta in it. Plenty of room and refuges. And these fish are from show stock, not fighting stock.
It took about an hour before the 2 males encountered each other. They both displayed for each other for nearly 3 minutes, then one just swam away. That's now happened a couple of times. They look like they'll be OK together.

Some horses are very territorial and wont let any animal near them and will chase the animal away with they teeth bared and look out if they catch it.

Kentucky has rather moderate weather compared to a lot of the country. We lose very few animals to anything other than cold mud. Mud will suck all the heat out of a newborn, yet snow won't. I've watched a ewe give birth in the middle of a snowbank. The lambs hop to their feet in minutes and start nursing.

HEIDI, sad to hear you lost so many animals all of one day. It is sad anytime but 3 at once is remarkable.

Now is your horse invited to to parties to be the trash collector? Eats all the leftovers? Or is he invited as entertainment?

Jane, thanks for the invitation, wish I could come. Sounds like a lot of fun. What an anniversary that will be for you and hubby.

No dont get on here much lately, just busy,
my dear Sammy has been suffering in this heat.
Thought I was going to lose him, but cooler again today, according to the forcast next week tuesday, is going to be another scorcher, so have Saturday put aside to cut Sammy's hair and give them both a bath, and wash all the bedding.

WELL LIZ, try to work us into your busy schedule! We miss you here, bunches and bunches!

I hope the haircut will help Sammy tolerate the heat. I have a neighbor who keeps a child's hard plastic ( not blow up plastic) kiddie pool for her dogs and adds just enough water for them to splash around in on really hot days. the dogs love it and it does cool them down!

Most summer dog shows have hard plastic pools set up for dogs to cool down in. Especially the Bulldogs.

HI SUZY, lots of hot looking sunshine there in the avatar! I would happily take a few degrees for the next 4 days. Today got to 50, not so bad. 25 again tonight, but it is Thursday and Friday that will be cold for Alabama. I think Heidi got her cold sooner, she is north of us, and the air mass did not have so far to travel to reach her!

Heidi, I did not know dog shows had wading pools for doggies, very good! Thanks for letting us know =about that. I just would not want to be nearby when they get out and shake themselves dry!

LIZ, a great whatever to you also sweetie!

if I put water down for my boys they would be about as far away from it a possible,
but I do get a washer out and wet them down a bit.
The haircut and bath will do them both good on the weekend.
Not that the bath will be easy, have to fight them the whole way, Sammy panics, so will need to be careful with him.

BTW, what do you mean by "a washer". Here a washer is the machine we feed our clothes into. I had this mental image of you stuffing the dogs into a washing machine, followed quickly by 2 dogs covered in suds escaping and running about your house! !
