Good morning lovely SA7 people.
Melburnites - thinking of you in those hot temps. Try to keep cool, drink plenty of fluids.
Viv, if you're around, my hubby is down your way at the moment picking up a trailer for our new mowing business. His mate bought it in Sydney for us and now he and his mate left Brisbane/Sydney at some ungodly hour during the night heading towards one another. They met up at the roundabout at the turn-off to Port Macquarie. Then, poor beggars have to turn around and head home - another 6 hours or so.

I'm back! I ran into a friend at the school so we just had to go and have coffee, then I ran into another 4 or 5 people and we chatted more about changing schools etc...

I spoke to Ally during recess, she was giggling and in a rush - still can't read her timetable! They are very complicated, show where everybody in all 7 classes have to be, and you have to know how to find the buildings in a very rambling school... Hopefully she'll think to follow people from her class around all day! She is in 7U, which is one of the graded classes - yay!! That means they will be less disruptive....

Yes! I told them all that it's a mother's job to embarrass year 7 kids as much as possible and they told stories about their mothers hugging everyone etc....

Gail - I keep thinking of you in Cockatoo and worrying about bushfires. Ash Wednesday is still so indelibly in my memory that even when I first came to this site and first saw 'Gail from Cockatoo' - my first thought was - Cockatoo, bushfires. Take care and I hope all remains safe.

Cyn, I just checked the Victorian incident report and there are only 'small' fires listed, not biggies... good news so far!

Hi June, she's giggling which I take as a good sign! Ebob and I can help her work out the timetable thing tonight. I felt like I was feeding her to the lions this morning! I must not have been the only one as there were probably 50 parents wandering around the area in front of the hall - where the kids had to go first. I don't remember seeing that many when Ebob started!

Thanks Suzy - have saved that site.
We never seem to get bushfures as badly up here and even though I live in a semi-rural area - I've never heard of them happening around here. I suppose there's always a first time. It's the stuff of nightmares, isn't it?
June - I just read on Easy about you having a baby during a Melbourne heatwave - that must have been an experience! But, I guess there's women in Melbourne and Adelaide giving birth today.

Hubby is on his way back from Port - he'll be a tired soldier when he gets home - up at 1AM to leave by 2AM. Not for me. I would have gone with him but no room for the dog in the ute and couldn't leave her alone here for that long, 12-15 hours.

Cyn, we were evacuated the first year we lived here - 2002. Luckily I had all the chrissie pressies in suitcases and just threw them in the car. Things I forgot: passports and birth certificates, oil painting my mother did, computer stuff, school report cards and other trivial things like that! I did remember the Baltimore Quilt my grandmother made for me, most of the photos, and the kids' trophies.

I assume nothing happened at home while you were evacuated.
It's understandable that you weren't organised that time, I guess you are now. I wouldn't know where to start if we were evacuated. I've never had a plan and should learn to keep important stuff in one spot - passports, certificates, photos etc.

Nothing happened Cyn - thank goodness! Lots of other people lost homes, but not in our immediate area. I still don't have everything in one spot, but I have a better idea of what I need to take. I figure I'll just run around and throw things at hubby and get him to load the cars.

When we got home we went for a walk to see where the fire reached. Our property is long and thin, goes back about 280m from the house. The fire was pretty close to the back fence. That's a long way, and at the same time, too close!

Suzy, glad to hear that the fire did not come too close to your house. I agree, that was close enough.
