The hats are beautiful, though a little smaller than I expected.

I am SO sorry for Kate. Schultz was like a member of our family here in Sudokuland.

Kate, sorry to hear of your loss. Our pets do become a part of our family, our furbabies. May the memories of times spend together help you as you grieve for your pet.

Really excited, but dreading the roads. To add insult to injury, some pheasants I bought were shipped yesterday before I could warn them not to. I just got a call from the Post Office in the county seat that they're waiting for me there. I have to go bundle up in a little bit and try to brave the ice. Fortunately, it looks like it's trying to melt.

I like the current avatar better than the previous one, Heidi! The other one, finch's head seems to blend into the background, at least to me. this one is in sharp contrast to the background, and I can appreciate the colors much more.

yesterday elsa took a teeny tiny hole in my front room chair's fabric, and enlarged so that she could crawl inside the hole. the fabric is now hanging off the chair. true, the chair was a bit sun rotted and due to be recovered anyway, but i was hoping to put it off long enough to get into "the house." since "the house" seems like it will never be done, i need to go get my chairs recovered anyway. that is added to my list today. soooo- off i go!

Brenda, defrosting a freezer is for a warm day! One Borvil comming up, in a huge mug you can wrap both hands around.

I have almost finished my third gift bag. I am not pushing it, am out of the habit of sewing and must retrain muscles to tolerate it again. I am having fun sewing again. I have 2 that need the top casing for drawstring. As soon as those are in, I will try to photograph them, for whomever it was asking for photographs.

I think that this is perfect weather to defrost a freezer. You can set the frozen food outside to keep it frozen while the freezer is a work in progress.

I'm back with the pheasants. The roads are well salted, but due to the ice, there are trees and branches down everywhere. I lost more than just the plum. I also lost a Maple next to the garage and a glorious Weeping Willow in the middle of the circle driveway in front of my barn. That's besides all the branches down, and the top broken off a Wild Cherry outside my kitchen window.

As I sit here, I hear occasional snaps and crashes from tree branches breaking off and falling. We've never had so much damage from any ice storm before, and we get at least 2 a year.

Morning all!

Heidi, so sorry about your trees. I would be in mourning! I literally teared up when they cut down the one near my back door - even though it was about to fall on the house...

MizT, it was me who asked for the photos...

Mariana, mischievous elsa!

Sounds PERFECT, Suzy. I am jealous.

I am very shaken, and very much in mourning over these trees. I've lost 30-40 ft. trees that I planted as saplings and /or seeds. It's like losing a member of the family to me.

That's what I thought might be happening Heidi. It's like losing a family member in a way. I'm trying hard to explain how I would feel in a way that doesn't make me seem to value trees over animals... but it is close. So sad.

I am supposed to be sewing. Ally's pants for today need the pocket repaired... hand-me-downs are my way of avoiding the new lower cut pants. I rearranged a bunch of furniture yesterday and the muscles in my back are doing backflips and cartwheels. This should be interesting....

Enjoy your sewing Tricia.

Morning June!
I will still have Ebob home today. She doesn't start until tomorrow. Mind you, she will be busy doing her math and marine studies homework that she has put off all holidays...

It's kind of a tradition for the small school parents to take their kids in to the big school and embarrass them by taking their photo together, so I will take Ally in today... I will restrain myself if the other parents aren't doing the embarrassing thing - they did when Ebob's group started. 20 minutes until I wake Ally...

HEIDI, I was just thinking (and that can be dangerous) your plum tree might be saved. you said uprooted? Not broken? If some of the roots are still in the ground, on the side it fell, you might could dig a hole for putting what roots were pulled out, and raise the tree (heavy equipment here) Then driving heavy stakes in the ground and tying the tree upright. I would then prune the tree severely, so it does not have more top growth than the damaged roots can maintain. Feed it with the fertilizer that stimulates root growth, forget which of the 3 numbers should be highest off top of my head, and keep it well watered for the first year. I would not cut any of it's height, but remove 50 % of it's branches or more back to the main upright leader. Spray the cut wounds with a 50% bleach water solution to prevent disease getting in. I saw a friend who was a fantastic gardener do that with a ornamental plum and it came back better than ever. she said the tree thought it might die after that treatment, so it redoubled it's efforts to put down roots, grow, and bloom.

Just a thought, since you lost so many trees, any you could save would be a plus.
