They took away Ebob's, and now Ally's, common area last year! Now the only place the years can mix is in the canteen and on the paths to and from classes. They had a couple of bad fights and knee jerked a 'solution'.

I can see where they are coming from with the segregation Susie, when I went to senior school...many years ago Girls and boys were segregated during break times, we even had different sittings for lunch.
But as you said the segregation doesn't stop bullying.

I think there'd be a riot if they tried to segregate boys and girls! Before Ebob started high school I went to one of those things at the school where they talked about what it would be like, how to help etc. They said boys and girls 'didn't' mix by choice. Boy do they not have a clue about what goes on on the playground!

Oh, and there's no 'sittings' for lunch, though I know what you mean as Ebob had them in the US. Here it's strictly finger food off your lap!

June, we haven't contacted the insurance company yet. I don't fancy any work starting on the roof at the moment. Weather is a bit cold and wet. Once work starts Richard and I will have to move out of our bedroom and sleep in the caravan. Just thinking about where we would put all our stuff is frightening.

I'm trying to imagine living in a caravan at 4C! Though GMo is doing that at the moment isn't she??? Maybe they make caravan's sturdier in Europe than they do here...

Well I'm going to leave you now and collapse in front of the television. It's been a long day - lots of socialising mixed in, but still long...

Night all! Have a great day/evening!

It sounds like it will be a very big job Brenda.
When I was at school (over 50 years ago)the boys playground was on one side of the school and the girls on the other. I think the quadrangle was common ground.

Things have changed a lot since I went to school. School 'canteens' are more cafe style with choices of meals. When I went to school there was no choice everyone got exactly the same meal

I spoke to my dad, Bill, this morning in Adelaide. They are experiencing even hotter temps. News articles are saying it will be a record heatwave of the last hundred years.
Tomorrow 44C and not expected to go below 38C any day - forecast goes till next Wednesday!

Brenda, when Ebob was in school in the US it was just like you describe - a particular lunch on a particular day. And we got a months worth of menus at a time, so we picked the days they were serving something she liked for her to 'buy' her lunch, on other days she took lunch from home. Here you stand in line sort of like at a McDonalds, except there are no tables to sit at.

Gail, I forgot you have family in Adelaide! If there is anywhere that has worse weather than Victoria right now it is South Australia!! At least according to the news... Sending thoughts and wishes to your and your family...

Your and your family? Yes, I know, I left ages ago and I should have stayed gone. My overly excited children will not settle and keep wanting to have deep and meaningful conversations with me. Those type of conversations are not compatible with unwinding at the end of the day, so I came back to unwind some more. NOT going on msn or facebook, just in case I am tempted to stay for even longer!!

Checking in without reading, limited time this morning, off for a follow up appointment with my doc. Hope he has results of my squishy test, they notify him before me if they need a call back, an let his nurse phone.

the rain has just hit, same rain system that produced ice and snow and freezing rain further north. Temps are still 60 here, it did not fall overnight as they expected, but they still say this will be the high for the day.

Everyone in the heat wave, take care! 105 and 106 are about as high as I have had to endure, with 90% humidity +, lasted for about 6 weeks one year, so I know what it is like, dangerous One thing friends who have those temps regularly taught us, take a wet towel with you to the car, to cool the door handle, seat belt buckle and steering wheel before touching them! Not to worry, in that heat, towel will dry before you get home.

SUZY, there are widespread power outages in Heidi's area, and one post last night said her power had been out for hours and she was not sure it was going to stay on. Could be the problem, no power. They optimistically say they can restore power in 3 days, but hope it will not take weeks.

The big storm that is slicing through the country brought me home a day early. The storm has caused a lot of damage and we might get a foot of snow if it doesn't change over to freezing rain. The schools are all closed here.

GAIL, that not going below 100 at night is the terrible part. When temps do not moderate at night is when people begin to die from the heat. Stay cool people! Even though you have AC, also get out any fan you have and sit with it blowing on you. Sit with your feet in a pan of water, spritz yourself, let fan blow, it helps you to cool. DRINK DRINK DRINK. Your humidity reports may be high for you, but they are still low enough for evaporative cooling of the body. OH, keep your hair wet, your head looses body heat faster than anything , reason we wear hats in winter. take advantage, keep it wet for more evaporative cooling of the body!

OK, Tricia's lessons in heat survival over. I know you know this stuff, but when it is sooo hot and people get soo tired of it, sometimes people forget.

Stella...when I was at school, the kids buy lunch at the canteen then go outside and find a seat to eat.If it is raining,we had big undercover areas to use.
