Funny of the day:
PUTTING YOUR AFFAIRS IN ORDER.
The doctor, after an examination, sighed and said, 'I've some bad news. You have cancer, and you'd best put your affairs in order.'
The woman was shocked, but managed to compose herself and walk into the waiting room where her daughter had been waiting. 'Well daughter, we women celebrate when things are good, and we celebrate when things don't go so well. In this case, things aren't well. I have cancer. Let's head to the club and have a martini.'
After 3 or 4 martinis, the two were feeling a little less somber. There were some laughs and more martinis. They were eventually approached by some of the woman's old friends, who were curious as to what the two were celebrating.
The woman told her friends they were drinking to her impending end. 'I've been diagnosed with AIDS.'
The friends were aghast, gave the woman their condolences and beat a hasty retreat.
After the friends left, the woman's daughter leaned over and whispered, 'Momma, I thought you said you were dying of cancer, and you just told your friends you were dying of AIDS! Why did you do that??'
'Because I don't want any of those b*t ch*s sleeping with your father after I'm gone.'
And THAT, my friends, is what is called, 'Putting Your Affairs in Order.'

Just remembered a feel good story from yesterday.
I was at a local mall and saw a woman looking at an electronic store directory. When did that happen? I thought and said out loud. (Our malls are so tiny that a store directory is a bit of a laugh.) The woman said it doesn't say where centre management is. It was almost directly in front of her... The reason she wanted to find it was the feel good part - she had lost her i-phone and someone had handed it in!!! She was almost crying with relief.... Restores your faith in human nature

I like that story, Suzy. It does restore your faith in human beings to find that there are still honest ones in the world.

Good one eaa....what a dame you are!!
Suzy...they do not want to admit there are problems!! At least we aren't on rationing as to when we can have the air conditioner on..can't remember when they last did that...
June...I haven't had the pool water analysed yet...our testing tells us that the balance isn't quite right as yet...not surprising in this heat...increased water temperature, chlorine breakdown and evaporation make it a real juggling act. Lachie is getting it all sorted...too hot for me to go out to check.
Commuters aren't happy down here with the rail tracks buckling in the heat...

Tonight I am going to fill the bed with ice bricks before I get in...it is like getting into bed with the electric blanket on medium [was goeing to say high but that is an exaggeration!]...

SUZY, I just tried Heidi's home phone, if I have the correct number. It rings and rings and no answer.
I have Gil's cell phone and instructions to call if she is missing for any significant amount of time. How long is significant? The 24 hours she has been missing? Or longer? I am a bit uncertain about phoning Gil, after all the stories we have heard hehehe.

BEAN, sleep in the bathtub tonight! With a fan blowing on you, another hot weather trick I forgot! Well, not the sleeping in there, but I have got in bathtub with tepid water and a fan blowing on me, must have been before AC or during some heat wave when AC was not sufficient.

Good morning lovely SA7 people.
Tami - i loved the 'Putting your affairs in order' joke, thanks.
Oh dear, I do feel for all you people in extremes of weather - heat and snow/ice.
Anxious about Heidi until we hear anything. Usually she has her computer on all the time and she shows up on Skype - not there today (last seen 28/1 10.18am - assuming that Oz time, that's nearly 24 hours ago). MizT - try Gil's mobile, too bad if he doesn't like it. her friends are concerned as she would be about us!!

I called, Talked briefly to Gil, who said Heidi is OK. they have no power and will not have power for 7 to 10 days. He asked me to call back in 20 minutes when he would be in the house and could hand the phone to her to talk to me then.
More later.

SUZY, it is 5:40 here, so 6:40 in Kentucky, they are just east of us and in Eastern Time.
Gil was outside, some one had the tractor going, cause he had to walk away from the tractor to be able to hear me.

Ok, time for me to sign out. On high alert here. 43C expected with high winds from the north, which is never good!
Everything is packed and ready by the back door. Hubby even added to the pile!
Have checked the fire sitrep site and there is nothing in my region to be worried about (touch wood again!).
Ciao for now, will log in briefly tonight.

Talked to Heidi, she did get her finches home last night. Had some fishtailing then on the roads. Gil has been out in his truck faring better, he has 4 wheel drive.
They have NO POWER NO HEAT NO WATER (they are on a well) and will be without power for up to 2 weeks. They have on lots and lots of sweaters to keep warm.
They have a fireplace, but it has not been used in years and years, they cannot get the damper open, Heidi thinks it is rusted shut, 'she has been working on it with WD 40 and a sledge hammer today!
Gil reminded us they cannot charge the cell phone except in the car, so had to get off our conversation. Heidi does have one land line corded phone that is working and that was the correct phone number I called, but they were all out caring for animals earlier. It is about 22 degrees there now, OH MY cannot imagine dealing with no heat!
OK, that is the Heidi report now.
Hope all the talk of chattering teeth and cold and Ice helps all of you dealing with the heat wave.
