Ally didn't get to choose the colour of her cast. Hers is neutral whitish greenish colour. She did get some new 'material' that the physios were raving over - just the right flexibility and stretch etc etc.

Yay Heidi!
I was listening to the radio on the way to school this morning and they have an interesting fund raiser going on. It's called 'the one buck fire truck'. Basically they are travelling all over the area, spending a couple of hours here and there, asking people to put their change in a bucket. Kids have been putting their lunch money in etc. Yesterday they raised $4,800 and they are trying to beat that today. Apparently they will be out my way tomorrow.

If I had to chose, I would probably pick purple or tie-dye. I like being different.

Heidi, how many new calves now?
Oh I would not want a cast at all, and espically with all those colors. I had a cast on my foot for a week, when I broke my ankle, then they put me in an air cast that I could take on and off. NO stinky skin that way, I could bathe the foot daily.

Very quiet birthday..... IH gave me some flowers. I got 2 birthday cards. No cake or other celebration. But had 2 calves born on my birthday, including my very first purebred! So the cows rewarded me.
So far, the calf count is 7..... 2 males, 5 females.

I want to thank everyone here for your concern, good wishes, prayers and positive thoughts when the lower storey of our home was inundated by floodwater twice last week. Even though I've been in many floods, it's the first time we've had water go through our home but we've learned for next time how to attack the lifting of furniture, cleaning etc. better. We still have a disaster in our home as we wait for the floors to dry, not helped by torrential rain last night which briefly turned our yard and street into a lake again. I guess it will be a long time before things are back to normal, needing to repaint, replace some furniture and doors. Thank you again. I'm sure that you will understand that at this time, I just won't get around to thanking each of you separately.

After offering our generator to Heidi, I guess I should explain that we weren't expecting the flood to get anywhere near our power points. The generator is for our business, so during the flood, it was located in the farm shed 7 km away, and we had no hope of getting to it. Next time, it will be here once a flood is predicted. It only takes 4 men to carry it up to our patio!

You need to have a generator set up at least 10 feet (3 + meters) from a building to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Where could you have put it that WASN'T underwater. Susan???

While I don't believe in wanton environmental destruction, I think that environmentalists are creating all sorts of problems in Australia. The link MizT and Gail provided shows one example. In our town, the river that should carry much of our excess rain to the sea has badly silted up over the years, resulting in worse flooding. Dredging the river is no longer allowed. But by more flooding, more furniture etc is lost, more animals drown, more trees are uprooted etc etc. I believe that these create worse environmental problems than dredging.

In regard to bushfires, first I must say that my knowledge is limited, and I would welcome other opinions. From my understanding, the vast areas of bushland once were monitored by government departments, and had fire breaks created and controlled burning was undertaken to minimise the risk and extent of bushfires. These areas have now been locked up, and once a bushfire takes hold there is no stopping it until it runs out of fuel. I think this creates worse problems for the environment, and the cost of human lives and suffering is immeasurable.
Now I'm going back to cleaning, but will check back later.

Suzy, I meant to tell you that hubby is neither a saint nor a work evader when he spent most of his time helping others less fortunate during the flood. There was really nothing that could be done at home, and every time he'd take the boat out to do something for someone, another person would wave him down and ask for help. He's more of a can't say no person I guess.
HEIDI, I didn't know that! Gulp! I guess we could have put it in the shed up on the work bench and run our 50m lead to the house switchboard. I'm going to check that out!!!!
Now I'm really getting back to cleaning.

Hello SA7.
Heidi, did I miss your birthday yesterday???
Things are starting to look grim for D&D, I have come back to 2 employees on leave without pay this week and another 2 next week. Guess I better get off my butt and look for another job.
Hope you are all well and safe.

That does sound foreboding, Broni. The downward spiral is spinning out of control. You shouldn't have too hard a time finding a new job. You're very well qualified.
And yes, my birthday was yesterday. But I didn't even get a birthday cake.
