I know who the post was meant for. I don't have any animals that need to be castrated.

That last post does not make sense because we turned the page. The comment about the calves was meant for Heidi. I guess we will eat as well Tami. I am just getting tired of thinking something different for us each day.
Good TOPP Tami, now you can go to bed.

We are lucky. The storm front has passed and we have power. A lot of other people in the area do not. And there were still thousands in this county who still haven;t gotten theirs back from the ice storm over 2 weeks ago.

On May 1st, we have the Vet castrate all the little bull calves. At that age, they're old enough for their first shots as well. Two of my registered cows were bought already bred to top bulls. If either of them has a bull calf, it won't be castrated, it'll be kept as a second bull. That will let me keep my herd bull a lot longer.

Hi all.
Susan, glad to hear that you're ok. We have a small generator that we used last summer. It was about 6 feet from our door. But then, we kept the windows and door closed on that side of the house.
Heidi, hubby was the only one who remembered mine this year. Since it's so close to New Year, we went out to supper the following week. That's the sum total of the celebration.

Today we were under a tornado watch for 9 hours, had torrential rain, hail and now have winds at 60+ mph (97+ kph). Lights are flickering while I'm sitting here with fingers crossed.

Broni, sounds like D&D are related to hubby's bosses (husband and wife). Their computer system is at least 5 years old, running on programs that haven't been used in 15 years. Hubby was hired to update the system and write programs. They wouldn't believe him that everything needed to upgraded until they hired a consultant.

Becky, glad your tornado watch is over. Hope the weather improves for you. Our wind is gone, did not last too long after the storm, hope yours soon moderates.
Heidi, some people still without power from 2 weeks ago. Mercy, that is a long time.
Broni, I hope things at your job work out for the best for you. D and D ran this company into the ground in how long?
Good night all, my bed time here. Hope all the DUGs have a safe and comfortable day today. All the topsiders, sleep well.

Afternoon all.
We get severe wind warnings here, but no tornado watches! We get some very strong winds here, but the 100kph are usually the gusts, not the main wind. That's bad enough! Just thinking about your winds is bringing back memories! 4 or 5 year old memories now... Hope you keep your power!

Running late on feeding the dogs. Too many naps today, I guess. I just tagged 2 more lambs.
Still need to do my late night cow check, after feeding the dogs.
I usually like to do my last cow check around 2 am.

Going out for the cow check now. I sleep easier knowing that there isn't a cow in difficulties. I've actually had to pull a calf at 2 am a few times.

I've just been checking how close the fire lit in the middle of Melbourne today is to anyone whose suburb I know. Tooooo close to Nunawading.
The young suspect is a goner - no way will he be able to keep his mouth shut about what he did and he will be dobbed in soon. Then they should throw the book at him!

Generators are routinely put just outside caravans. I am surprised by the guidelines you described for them.

I cheat. The calving pasture is the closest one to the house, with no hiding places. I use my 3 million candlepower flashlight, which lights up those 12 acres like it was daytime. I don't have to do a lot of walking, unless I see some suspicious behavior.

The majority of the deaths during that ice storm were due to carbon monoxide poisoning from the generators either being in the garage or next to the house. The front page of the main newspaper in the state, EVERY DAY during the outages, instructed people to place the generators at least 10 feet from the home.

Hi everyone! Suzy - fire near Nunawading?? I didn't hear anything about this! I've been out with my girls all day, looking at wedding dresses - totally exhausted! Didn't see any signs of trouble when I came home (apart from the kind that shopping with daughters usually leads to!)

Of course we had to stop off and buy an assortment of calories and coffee - now Adam is coming over for a dinner and I'm thinking "I couldn't eat another thing!! What to make? Something light and simple - shame he doesn't eat salad - or vegetables. Oooh my tummy hurts!!

It's about 13km I think Judy, or was that 13 minutes? Deliberately lit, possibly by a 15 year old seen in the area, contained but not under control...
