Just popping in to let you all know we came out pretty good from the storms last night. The winds didn't die down until after 3 am. A couple of trees were uprooted in the neighborhood along with signs and siding blown off buildings. A motel a couple of miles away burned to the ground.
Now off to clean up all the debris in our yard while thanking our lucky stars nothing worse happened.

I don't think you'll fool your mother for long, Mariana. Maybe you should switch to Diet Pepsi while she visits.

Just for Heidi:
A fire destroyed a barn near Laramie, Wyo., on Monday. Firefighters suspect some goats inside the barn started the fire by nibbling through electric heater cords or knocking down a heating lamp.
Barn owner Dale Wood says the barn was a total loss and at least three female goats died.
Neighbors alerted Wood's son to the fire, who called firefighters and tried to put out the flames.

Goats love to chew through electrical wiring. One of the many reasons I don't like 'em.

I have the feeling that Dale Wood won't have any more goats around, either.

Morning all!
Gail - Ivanhoe rings bells...
Bean - so very cute and sad at the same time, which is good because it means more people will help
Brenda - we have the same 'blame' thing going on here. The girls asked me all about it when Ally hurt her arm and decided it wasn't the gym's fault and we shouldn't ask them for money - phew!

Susan - I heard about the flood money going to the fire fund too! That was amazing!! I forgot about CO detectors, we had one in the US. The problem was it used to go off when there was no problem... Are you going to the sausage sizzle today?
MizT - what a sweet thing for your hubby to say!

Mariana, I've never heard you talk about diet Coke ever, not ever, always Pepsi..

A big thank you to New Zealanders
When combined with the $NZ500,000 ($A401,268) committed by the government the total figure donated by New Zealanders was more than $NZ1 million ($A802,536).
The Red Cross said it would transfer 100 per cent of its appeal fund to fire victims, without deducting any costs associated with administration or banking fees.

We have 9 over night guests tonight. It is snowing again, so Elaine decided it wouldn't be safe to leave her newly hatched chicks at school in case school is closed tomorrow. If school is closed we will be looking after them until 23rd Feb as half term holidays start tomorrow.
Callie is going demented trying to get at the chicks. She is curious about what they are, but doesn't seem to want to hurt them. Just in case they are locked in the office so Callie cannot get at them.

Good morning lovely SA7 people.
MizT - no trouble posting here either.
It's been raining here in Brissie since last night - non-stop and quite heavy at times. Wish I could re-direct it to Victoria.
Suzy - checked with my local BiLo - they are under the Coles umbrella and their profits today go to the appeal, so I will be shopping there today. I do wonder though, how much of a $200 grocery bill would be profit?

CynB it doesn't matter how much the profit is, every little helps. Though I think you would probably be suprised how much profit they actually do make.

That would still mean Coke containers on the premises, and a mistake is more likely that way.

The wind is still gusting pretty good here. Was beginning to think that I needed a pair of ruby shoes just in case.
Mariana, just put your can in a foam can holder or you can buy a Pepsi cover for your Coke can. You'll have to hide your stash tho.
Heidi, congrats on all the new additions.

I'm back. My grocery bill was $240, and I wonder the same thing Cyn. Just in case I threw a bit more in the bucket as I went past. The girls have given me some of their money to throw in buckets but I decided to let them do it this afternoon after giving them the option to donate to the animals.

Okay, it's going to take 2 cups of coffee to help the panadol get rid of this headache. I suppose watching the video taken by people inside the fire didn't help much. Crying is not good for headaches!!

Very cool...
Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, both developing nations, have offered cash donations to help bushfire victims.
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has offered a donation of $US1 million ($A1.52 million) and Papua New Guinea $A2 million.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd told parliament Dr Yudhoyono wanted Australians to know Indonesia was not only a neighbour but also a friend.
"The president of Indonesia indicating Australia has always dug deep in helping Indonesia in its times of national catastrophe and disaster," he said.
"The government of Papua New Guinea has decided to donate $A2 million to assist disaster victims in the bushfires in Victoria and those who've been affected by flooding in north Queensland," he said.
"Sir Michael (noted) ... whenever natural calamities have hit Papua New Guinea in the past, Australia, through the Australian Defence Force and through other Australian aid agencies, has always been first into the fray."
And Sir Michael said that PNG, too, was a friend as well as neighbour.

Someone asked about mortgage insurance in Australia. I can only speak for my mortgage - if you have a deposit of 10% or more (I think it's 10%, might be 20%) you have to have mortgage insurance, otherwise you just have to have homeowners insurance. I have to provide proof of insurance periodically. We got one of those loans where they take a lot of risk - all of our credit history was in the US so they had to believe that we were good for it. But they made us put 20% down! That means we don't have mortgage insurance.
