Rolanda, as I said just a little bit, maybe a skosh.

Broni, I keep telling people I'm the sanest person I know. Don't know if they smile because it's true or their just humoring me. Either way, I'm ok with it.

Hubby and I went out for the purpose of doing some shopping at Coles. (How is it that when you don't actually need anything, it costs $183!) While we were out, we were going to have a 'gail' as well. We had just finished our gail when I heard my mobile ringing. It was one of my sisters asking if we were alright, they had seen on the fire site there was an incident in Cockatoo and the Dandenong Ranges were being evacuated! Then another sister rang! And we got a message from a friend in Adelaide because she had the fire map up and there was a listing. We were off the mountain and no way of knowing anything. I ended up ringing the high school and was treated wonderfully by the office lady. She said they had the site up the whole time but told the principal and he updated it and told us that it was a structure fire and under control.
Talk about instant panic. I really don't need any more adrenalin rushes.
Of course my car with all the treasures was still up the mountain!

OH GAIL, that had to be most frightening. I am not into adrenaline rushes myself, so hope you do not have any more of that going on. Stay safe.

Very relieved Becky. You are right MizT, I was beside myself with fear. Stupidly, my first instinct was to get back up here! Now I think I know a little of how the sufferers have felt, you are drawn to your home and want to do everything you can. As I said to my sister all the treasures are up here but it really doesn't matter if you have your life.
The policy at the school in the case of a bushfire is they wont release the children until the authorities give the all-clear as it is too hard to keep track of kids if they are being taken out by parents in dribs and drabs, so we knew D#3 would be alright. As they always maintain, they are in the safest place as the CFA will go into protection mode and keep the 1000 kids safe. I believe the school is a fire refuge area anyway.

Night MizT.

Gail, hubby and I were talking the other night and agreed that fire and tornadoes are the scariest. Both are unpredictable.

Dino, glad to hear that you're safe.

Great! I should go up to Coles and do my bit in the spending spree, but right now I'm enjoying the silence! Have spent the last 2 days with my daughters, looking for "The Dress"! It has been chosen, and it is beautiful, but I'm feeling just a little bit tired(!!!)

It sounds like all my dear ones are safe so far. I like that kind of news.
It is nowhere. Those are always good days for me. Maybe that means a lot more healthy calves?????
I'm heading out in a few minutes for my last cow check of the night. With any luck, I'll have another baby.

Gail - sorry about the scare.
Didn't make as big a contribution to Coles/BiLo today as I would have liked but I did try.

I prefer Aunty Jack. During the power failure, though, the song "Farewell Aunty Jack" kept running through my head!

Another new calf. I got her tagged while still wet.
So far, calving has been easy. This bull is calving ease. In other words, calves sired by him have the right conformation for easy delivery. The previous bull wasn't calving ease. I had to pull almost half his calves. They had huge butts which got stuck in the birth canal. The funny thing is, the valves from the present bull mature with bigger butts than the calves of the previous bull.
