I'm off back to sorting the kids' books. I bought them hundreds over the years, now what to do with them - especially the ones I want to keep and the ones I think I want to keep.

Bean, the gardens look wonderful!

Hi MizT! Looks like we will reach page 400 after all - posting is slow, but still better than SA5. Do you think it might have had something to do with the cruise and the zillions of smilies we used then??

WARNING - Venting a pet peeve!!!

Why don't people pull over for emergency vehicles???? We have just had 3 ambulances go past, the first at top speed - honking its horn because the stupid bl00dy cars didn't pay attention to its siren!

Liz, my daughter has a Getz to drive to work (40 k each way) and she loves it. She has a large 4wd for the horse floats and the Getz has saved her about $60 a week on petrol.

Mariana, congrats to Benny! woohoo!

Vici, hope you had fun at the SF meet!

Went to Brendan's game. Unfortunately, they lost, but Brendan played well. Then went to my sister's house and we had a good time there. Tired from all of the driving (although hubby did the actual driving!) and I'm heading to bed.

Have a good night/day!

Because Suzy there are dumb and inconsiderate people everywhere. It's against the law not to give way to emergency vehicles, and I think the passenger should be noting and reporting the driver's number plate. Lunch break over, so it's back to work.

Susan, I don't think they do take note of license plates here (or the drivers aren't prosecuted) because I have yet to see a car give way to an emergency service vehicle in this town. I'm sure some do, but I've never seen it. Drives me mad! Wish I could have seen the license plates!!

Twice now I have had to lead one of the lawn mowers off the back patio! I have put up a barricade of bicycles, gas cylinders, ladders and wheelbarrows, but he has still found his way in! We even have to be careful to keep the back door closed or he ends up in the kitchen! Right now he is inspecting the re-constructed barricade trying to figure out yet another way in! I know we're good fun, but his is ridiculous!

Oh, my, pages to read, and I forgot to take notes again.

Hello, Everyone!

Slidy thing - have one somewhere in the house - maybe Black & Decker - haven't seen it in several years.

Tami, congrats on the TOPP and great new avatar & pictures!

Susan - I think we still have all children's books, but finally gave away MOST college textbooks, including a few I wish I hadn't.

Dizzy Lizzy, exercise in HOT water? Sounds great! We would settle for WARM, but just exercise in the regular pool, and swimmers can't tolerate more than about 82 or 83* F, so sometimes pretty darn cool for us. I don't think I can help with cars, as most aren't available here. We have had a couple of Toyotas - Camry, I think.

Bean, I haven't had time to do the garden tour yet, but sounds fabulous!

Suzy, I agree with your pet peeve. It's also a law here that you must yield, but many people don't.

June, the tale of the pens is familiar here, too. Hubby always asks, why didn't you throw it out when it quit working. But it WAS working when I put it away. Very frustrating.

Hope you stop by again, Mariana and MizT!

Stella, too bad Brendan's team didn't win, but at least he played well. Is this the end of his season? How are D#1 and #2, and S#2?

Time to read some more.

Hi Julie, without D&D it is always a good day.
I was such a hoot yesterday talking and seeing them at the SF meet, had to laugh when Shosho said on Easy that she looked bedhind as they were leaving the table and there were feathers everywhere.

From my SIL in SoCal...
We are ok but there is ash flying in the air and smell of smoke everywhere. Freeways shut down 57 thru Brea and Diamond Bar. Hills on fire.
91 freeway to Corona --Anaheim Hills on the right as you drive to Corona , Yorba Linda on the left side of freeway as you drive to Corona , Chino Hills by the 71 and East of the 91 in Chino . It was 95 today with 5% humidity. The winds were awful Saturday, not so bad today. There is also a fire out in the end of the San Fernando Valley . In Saugus , that does not really affect us. The sky today and yesterday was full of smoke so it seemed like there was a fog or something--grey/green. Now Diamond Bar is a hot spot. So, tomorrow will be in the 80+'s/90's with dry Santana air
Hopefully by Wednesday we will get the ocean breeze back.. This area has not had a fire in over 30+ years. Lots of brush and dry weeds to burn. If the winds shift back from the ocean, the fire will go back over burnt areas and put itself out. The area around Lambert Rd. was shut down and evacuated. Weir Canyon , Yorba Linda Blvd. etc. areas evacuated.
My eyes are swollen and red; they burn ; we are sneezing and coughing--trying to stay in by the air conditioner.
other than that another typical November day that is hot,dry and NOOOOOOO rain.
Hopefully tomorrow is better. I am trying to decide if I should get a sub for tomorrow, I am so miserable right now. I keep thinking by morning I will be ok.

For MizT because I thought you might be interested, though this article doesn't mention that this is for squamous cell - probably because many people don't know what that means...

An Australian scientist who developed a vaccine for cervical cancer is set to outline a breakthrough which could pave the way for a skin cancer vaccine, reports said Sunday.

Professor Ian Frazer told The Sunday Telegraph that tests of the vaccine on animals had proven successful and that human trials could begin as soon as next year.

"If we can get encouraging results, we will try and push it on as fast as we can," he told the paper.

Frazer, who will deliver his findings to the Australian Health and Medical Research Congress on Monday, said a skin cancer vaccine could be available in five to 10 years.

It would be used on children aged between 10 and 12 to prevent them from developing skin cancer -- a disease which causes some 1,600 deaths in Australia each year.

Julie, I'm a little worried about one of our nieces (feel funny calling her that as she is older than I am). She has MS and will probably be having more trouble. They didn't have air conditioning when we were there. I'm hoping they have had it installed since then...
