Getting ready to go outside and watch the solar eclipse. I got some ISO approved cheap glasses, and am all set. I won't be getting 100% totality here, just about 98 to 99%. Close enough for jazz. I'm not up to brave nightmarish traffic to see 100%.

Hi all. First day of school for students and all went well. Had the eclipse on TV for the kids. It is our in house(county wide) channel and they were showing NASA. It was fun. No windows in my school so didn't see much. Went outside, but too late. We had about 78% coverage.

Heidi, glad you had the glassess. I think 98% would be pretty good to see also.

Suzy, Chinese food sounds good to me too.

Tricia. Hope you are feeling better soon. Colds are no fun.

Hello Friends, thanks for the well wishes. Pharmacy sent me a bottle of expectorant, the old fashioned Robitussin, plain, nothing added, no extra strength or multi cold symptoms stuff, which was all I was finding online. It has helped to thin the terrible yuck stuck deep in chest. My pain medication does a lot to suppress the cough, and that is not always good. I slept really well last night, 6 hours without liquids or coughing, and that yuck was like concrete. sounded and felt like I was hacking up a lung. Not fun. Much easier now, giving my sore muscles a chance to rest a bit. My appetite has returned, that is good, but so has my taste, not so good, nasty taste of yuck.

I did wash dishes today, and was able to read again, no more sand in the eyes feeling. Watched the eclipse go across the USA on NASA TV. They had really good coverage. Coverage on the science channel, not so great.

There was video of our president looking up at the eclipse without protective glasses, not once, but THREE different times. SMH.

A small group of EP residents were out in parking lot, with a couple pair of glasses and 3 pin hole projectors, sharing them around. Not sure what percentage coverage we had, but just looking out the window, could tell a major reduction in sunlight. looked very different from just a cloudy day.

My sister and BIL decided to drive north to see totality. So did her son, his wife and children. They had separately chosen the same spot, and the same route over secondary roads. I have not heard if they saw a lot of traffic or not. My sister and BIL who live in North Georgia also went north, not as many miles as the Alabama gang had to drive. The Alabama gang went into Tennessee, and were greeted with thin clouds. Have not heard about weather from other sis. There did not seem to be huge crowds at any of the NASA broadcast sites.

Time for more liquids, and back to recliner. I may have to get outside tomorrow a bit, 5 days isolation is getting to me. Hope everyone is doing well, and finding something to enjoy this day.

It was cool to watch. There wasn't totality, as expected, but just the slightest sliver of sun visible at the top of the eclipse. We didn't have darkness like those in totality had, just a sort of twilight effect. I have watched the full ecipse online, and am glad I didn't try to brave the traffic jams to view it live. Highways were shut down with bumper-to-bumper traffic as early as 12 hours before the eclipse.

Hi, Everyone

Viewing pleasure during 2 hours of platelet donation today was Hidden Figures about the 3 African American mathematicians/engineers who worked at NASA. A good movie, if you haven't seen it. I was finishing my platelet donations as the eclipse started in the northwest. Had my 'refreshment' & headed home for lunch & watched the eclipse on TV. No damage to our eyes.

I'm dragging, so off to bed for me. Nice to see posts from Tami, MizT, and Heidi!

Sending healing energy, prayers, {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, , and positive thoughts!

June, how did the transfusion go? Do you feel better? I want to see that movie...Dana, I think Alie too but I forgot to talk to her about it, wants to go on the bone marrow registry. The mobile blood bank is in town so I asked them about it. I got the form for her and she has an appointment for Thursday. She'll donate blood and they take extra for testing.

Tami, I'm trying to imagine a school with no windows! Watching on tv was better with kids. There's always one who wants to test the rules. Did anyone else hope 45 damaged his eyes with his stupidity? I felt mean for thinking it, but geez that was dumb.

MizT, I'm glad you are feeling a little better.

I have memories of watching an eclipse through a hole in a box, but now I'm wondering if I imagined it if June hasn't seen one. Unless I did it in the states...

Suzy, it could have been a partial eclipse you watched through a hole in a box. When I was a youngster my parents smoked glass over an open fire to watch an eclipse. I have seen lots of partial eclipses. Aslo lunar eclipses. No need for glasses then.
At the hospital from 8.45 AM till 6.30 PM. Tired now but should feel much better tomorrow. Chemo and transfusion complete.
Tricia, I hope all the yuck soon clears away.

In Melbourne we had a total solar eclipse in October 1976. I remember it well as a neighbour came to tell us he had just become a father and brought a bottle of Penfolds Grange with him to celebrate. The amazing thing was the birds went deadly quiet and then altogether started singing when the light came back.
Hope you are feeling better June.

Our next solar eclipse is on April 8, 2024. It'll be crossing the US from the southwest to the northeast. The area of totality will be skimming Louisville, KY and Cincinnati, OH. So I'll get a similar view to yesterday's.... if I'm still alive.

My sump pump committed suicide. I had to go get a new one today (before picking up Debbie's husband Bob after his Chemo, and taking him home). The plumber will be here in the morning to install it for me. I don't have the equipment or know-how.

Alie likes to talk at night. If I've had a people filled day, that is very stressful for me. To avoid hurting her feelings, if I can't cope with it, I go to bad. If it's too early, it means I'm up at o dark 30. So here I am, up for the day when it's still night, for me anyway, lots of people get up this early.

Not the best of days. I went into town to renew my car insurance and do some grocery shopping. On the way home, I went to switch lanes and hit a car that was in my blind spot. That was the first time I've done that in my 46 years of driving. I only got a bit of the other guy's white paint on my bumper, but he'll need a new passenger side rear door. No other damage. I feel so ashamed.

Heidi, sorry to hear about your auto accident. So glad no one was injured.

Still coughing and blowing yuck. Doc sent antibiotics today, hope the Z pack will speed up recovery. I am to phone back Monday to let him know how I am. OH, 'him' is the nurse practitioner who handles all the phone calls. Really do like Daniel. I have never had to wait more than 30 minuets for a call back from him.

My order from Wal Mart arrived today. So nice to be able to order online and have 'stuff' arrive at my door, without shipping charges, too, since I 'save up' till I have over the minimum $35 for free shipping. I am trying to get word out about this free shipping thing to residents here. So many people wanting to go to wal mart on our bus each week, and only room for 12, plus one in a wheelchair, they now limit residents to one trip every other week.

That is all for today, catch you again soon. Still not giving even cyber hugs, will NOT share this germ with anyone.

Greetings!

Heidi, I'd take 2 extra hours any way I can get them, but you're right, I need to get 2 more hours of sleep. I'm so sorry to hear about your fender bender. You had such a great record, that it's obvious it was not a regular occurrence. Too bad there isn't some way to be notified if someone is in or approaching your blind spot!

MizT, I hope you will soon be feeling much better!

Thinking of everyone, and heading to bed in a moment! Remember, if you don't see me for several days, it's just that we're a wee bit overbooked!

Sending a fortnight's supply of healing energy, {{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}, positive vibes and thoughts, , prayers, and cheerful flowers to keep you company!

Heidi, I reversed into someone in a parking lot after being told hubby had cancer. Luckily I only dented their license plate. I cracked my light running up the back of a truck after he died. It happens. You lost a good friend. Let yourself off the hook.

MizT, I hope the antibiotics work and you feel better soon!

It's almost Father's Day here so there are displays everywhere of presents and cards. It's hard. I woke up crying this morning. My brain immediately started playing a bubble shooter game. That was weird! But it worked, whatever I was dreaming about that made me cry was forgotten, well, most of it. It's also daffodil day. I bought a daffodil because although didn't die of cancer, if he hadn't had it, he would still be here.

Some of the spendy new vehicles have blind spot warning devices...

The absolute worst are drivers in small cars who sit in the blind spot along side a big truck, instead of moving on through. Talk about STUPID! (Or the ones who after passing pull in so close they 'disappear' in front of the hood (bonnet).

I was driving an 18 year old pick-up, and the other driver had a small car, but I wasn't going to say a thing. The other driver was in law enforcement.
At least my RV has mirrors with large extra mirrors for the blind spot. I don't have 'em on the pick-up.

Heidi, I wasn't 'talking stink' about you. I was referring to the large commercial vehicles - semis, doubles, triples (road trains).

Even with the the best mirrors, properly adjusted, it can be difficult to see smaller vehicles, alongside. You know those messages on the back of big trucks - the one that says ''If you can't see my mirrors, I can't see you'' - believe it!

On one occasion, long ago, I became aware of the presence of a small car in my blind spot only when I heard the lug nuts on the 'steer tire' grinding into their driver side door as I attempted to change lanes. Of course it was classified as a 'chargeable, preventable' accident. Ruined my day.

Mine was called a No-Fault accident by both the police officer and the other driver. They were both kind.

Well, today is the big, pathetic day. The adulterers are getting married today. I don't have to worry about the sliceable crawling back to me and causing a scene any more.

I'm off to delete their pictures from my page now. I agree wholeheartedly that the announcement reads like an obituary. NOBODY lists their degrees and accomplishments in an engagement notice! Proof that she's as dumb as he is. They deserve each other.

Heidi, no matter how much of a jerk he has been, today would be a tough day for you. Cyber hugs!

Maybe a laugh will help. This just came up on my memories on tos, from 4 years ago....

Tough exhausting day today but after my ride home with Alie I have tears of laughter running down my face. I hope I get most of this right.
Alie had an excursion today and they took the school bus. Alie was asked to close the gate after the bus was out. They were running late so she ran from the gate to the bus - and fell flat on her face in the middle of the road. (Described as beached whale followed by unhappy turtle when she was trying to stand up again.) She got up and started running for the bus again only to run into and bounce off of a car that had stopped to make sure she was okay. This time she landed on her butt. She jumped up and started running again, only to run right into the teacher who had ran out of the bus to make sure she was okay. Head butted him right in the chest. Not over yet. He had jumped out of the bus so quickly he hadn't put the handbrake on and the bus was rolling down the street.
Made my day, hope you got a smile too.

Greetings friends. Still coughing and sputtering here, day 4 of my 5 day antibiotics. Some improvement, I can taste and smell a bit again.

Suzy, I could almost see Allie's comedy of errors as you described it. That memory gave me a chuckle.

Saw a headline online today, saying that some people put SUNSCREEN into their eyes to protect them during the eclipse. I do hope that was just 'click bait', and I refrained from clicking on it, but, can you imagine???

My garden helper Brian is in hospital, and has been for several days. No one seems to know why. He and his wife both have mental health diagnosis, so that is a possibility. Whatever, I hope he recovers soon.

Time for more meds. I hope I am now non contagious and am sending cyber hugs to all, with lots of extras.

MizT, I'm guessing if people did put sunscreen in their eyes to see the eclipse, they didn't see much of it because they would have been busy trying to get it out! That would sting! I follow a page on the other site that posts only parodies, fake news but in a really funny way. They posted a story about looking into the eclipse being good for your eyes. They did it after the eclipse was over, of course. Their stories are really exaggerated, it's easy to see they are not real, nut occasionally people are led there by a friend's like or comment and there are outraged reactions, followed by a dozen, you know this isn't real, right?

I was so cold this morning I shivered for an hour. Had on lots of warm clothes, the AC, a heat pad and a rug over me and still could not get warm. I have been sorting though old cards and throwing them out. Good thing was I found and old birthday card which had to be more than 14 years old and there was $100 note inside! Glad I was checking the cards before throwing them out! I must have gone through about 300 cards in the last couple of days. Still lots more to do.

June, so sorry you were so cold and could not get warm. When I cannot get warm, I am usually wearing my fleecy robe, so I set my hair dryer on warm, and blow it inside the robe, first down the front, then the back. That will usually warm me when nothing else will. Being cold is so miserable. Sending lots of warm thoughts your way. Congrats on finding the $100. Hope you can do something nice for yourself with it. I have occasionally, at the start of the coat wearing season, put my hand in the pocket and found a $20, but never a $100!!

I called the doc office again. They are sending out a steroid dose pack now. Said the antibiotics should stay in my system for several more days (took the last of those this morning). I hope this does the trick. Tired of this congestion and cough.

I have lost either weight or inches since being sick. Today I put on a shirt a friend passed on to me. It was snug last time I tried it on, fits nicely today. Tanya said I had tightened abdominal muscles with all my coughing. Maybe so.

Going to make myself another cup of coffee. Warm liquids are all I seem to want now, it is soothing and loosens some of the crud. Catch you later, hugs to each of you with extras.

Talked to Laura on the phone tonight. She has two projects to complete for school. She picked electricity (her father is an electrician) and Beliefs. Laura is Baptised Anglican and will be going to a Catholic High school next year. I asked her what religion she had picked. Ken and I both had a laugh when she answered 'Buddhism' .
I now have to go through old photos to see if I have a photo of Laura and Dino together. (Dino stayed with me for a couple of weeks some years ago.)

Hi everyone, hope you are all happy and well.
I haven't been doing much lately - my Mum died, and we had to wait for my brother to get back from NZ (by boat) Mum had Alzheimer's for about 15 years, so she was ready go. I think she would say to Dad, 'Where have you been? We should be on our way now!' ♥♥♥

A while ago I thought I would show Mum some of the things I made for my hobby, dollhouse miniatures. I didn't know if she would be interested, but she WAS! We spent a lovely afternoon looking at all the things I'd made (bottles of lollies, caramels and chocolates) and she told me it was wonderful! I've waited a long time for that!

My daughter's baby is doing really well - Jennifer Skye is extremely tall for her age (she takes after her father) and she's SO cute! ♥♥♥

Greetings friends. We have rain today, off and on all day is the forecast, and more through the rest of the week. I have not looked at a national weather map, am wondering if this is part of now tropical storm Harvey.

Judy, I am happy for you that you and your Mom enjoyed sharing some of the things you had made for your hobby. It is a good memory. May the memories of times past bring you comfort as you grieve her passing.

The crud seems to be mostly in my head now. today is day 2 of the steroids. Don't know if it is the cold, the meds, or the rainy weather, but I am chilly today. I have turned off the fans, might have to change temp on the AC if I do not warm up some. I pulled out a cardigan (jumper?) for the first time this almost fall season. Expecting my housekeeper soon, then Tanya is taking me to grocery. I am out of a few things, like milk, bread, fruit and colas. She can pick me up under cover here, and drop me off near entrance at grocery to keep me from getting wet.

June, I am sure Laura will learn a lot doing a project on Buddhism. I hope you find a photo of her with Dino, that would add a lot to her project.

Hugs to everyone, with extras. till next time.

MizT, hoping you don't get too wet! The news we are seeing about Harvey isn't great. And it isn't the only system causing havoc. At least 1200 dead elsewhere! 🙁

Feel better Heidi.

I drove over 150 km ferrying my kids around today. That's almost 100 miles for the topsiders. I'm achey and tired, but since it's Friday I'm having a glass of wine. Don't think I'll stay awake long enough for 2.
