Happy Birthday Heidi
(Hope I made it on time. Thanks to Plum for the reminder.)

I wish it could be a happier birthday without all the worry about the dogs. My birthday wish for you is good news about Daisy's condition.

Thank you, Plum. Every good wish is a big help

Daisy is back home now. They sent her home with appetite stimulants and anti-nausea medicine. They got her to eat 2 meals of chicken and rice!!! I have to take her back on Monday morning for several more tests. But having her home is a great birthday present. She's a good car rider, too, unlike her sister Sandy. She just lays down on the passenger seat with her head on my lap like the good girl she is. Sandy has to sit on my lap with her paws on the steering wheel so she can honk the horn.

Hi, Everyone!

Excellent TOPP, Cyn! I've never heard that before.

As others have said, we're always glad to have visitors, Plum! Feel free to drop by any time, and you'll be welcomed!

Heidi and Daisy, hooray for a couple of meals of chicken and rice and being able to return home! I hope the medicine will 'Ensure' that her appetite will receive a 'Boost.' (For those of you not in the U.S., Ensure and Boost are liquid meal supplements that are high in protein and available over the counter for humans.) How nice that Daisy travels well and is well-behaved in the car, unlike her sister Sandy. (I have a mental picture of Sandy sitting in your lap with her paws on the steering wheel, frequently honking the horn.)

{{{{{HUGS}}}}} to Everyone, along with healing energy, positive thoughts, and prayers!

I just read a news article that has me shaking my head. A police chase in batemans bay described as ‘ south of Sydney.’ The distance between Sydney and batemans Bay is more than the distance between LA and Tijuana!

There IS a cure for the common birthday, unfortunately. I nearly took the cure in December.

Daisy is a bit more alert today. I'm off to the grocery store now for a chicken for her. That's what she ate at the Vet's. She wants nothing else.

Went to the grocery.... bought a fresh roast chicken.... brought it home..... crumpled one breast in a dog bowl amd mixed in some cooked brown rice. Daisy ate some!!! Not the whole thing yet, but it's progress.

We're due to have freezing rain, sleet (I thought those were the same thing) and eventually snow tonight. Not pleasant, since I have to leave with Daisy for the Vet hospital just after 7 am. I'm giving us an extra half hour because of bad roads.

Happy Birthday Heidi - I am glad you got a wonderful present - Daisy on the improve (although only so slightly).
Suzi - glad to hear Tahli is coping with her new surroundings. Have you been to see them yet?
Hubby drove to Sydney from Melbourne yesterday for work and it is so peaceful at home - slacked off and read a book for most of yesterday then went to visit a 92yr old friend who has a type of dementia - he won't see hubby though they have been friends for over 45 years. Still lives on his own but was talking to his 'angel' friends who were with us. Bit disconcerting as some of them are still alive!! And he still drives a car - a danger on the roads I wish we had laws to stop them driving.
D has decided to apply for an honours degree as she wishes to keep studying micro biology. I would be so glad to see her doing this but it means bar work for another 2 years.

Back from the Vet hospital again. They tested her for more stuff, including Addison's Disease. We go back on Friday to find out the results.

Good morning all,
Heidi, glad to hear that Daisy is eating, even if it's not much. Hope these latest tests get to the bottom of what's wrong with her.
Midge, good luck to your daughter with her honours degree.
Bit of a worry about you friend with dementia still driving. We had trouble stopping Dad from driving. The Doc sent him for a test, they took his licence, he still drove, often into things. Eventually we devised a plan to get his car from him. It was a hard but necessary thing to do in his case.

CynB - with my mum I 'borrowed' her car for a month and she forgot she ever had one. Made it easier to keep her off the road. Was such a sad thing to do at the time but the last time she drove, she came to our place and couldn't remember driving there (about 20kms).
MizT - hope you are on the improve and the drs can help with your constant pain. Please let us know if you are o.k.
Hubby has talked me into flying to Sydney tomorrow and driving back to Melbourne with him - I so much wanted to go to the beach for a night or two whilst he was away. The following week we will be going to Brisbane for a few days (work)and to visit s-i-l.

Midge, that's exactly what we did with Dad. We told him that my hubby needed a car and asked to borrow it. He sometimes wondered for a moment what happened to it but then forgot. We felt guilty but it was safer for all with him off the road.

Good Evening, Friends!

Suzy, I suspect the reporter for the newspaper wasn't at all concerned with the distance between Sydney and Batemans Bay, only the accuracy of the direction. I assume saying it's south of Sydney is at least partially correct.

Heidi, such good news that Daisy also ate some chicken and rice at home - perhaps proof that she is on the mend if she ate it at home, too. I hope the more extensive testing will help to pinpoint Daisy's diagnosis.

Midge, I'm glad you were able to slack off a bit and read a book while your hubby was away. Too bad you won't be able to enjoy a couple of nights at the beach. I hope your time in Sydney and the drive back home will be at least somewhat relaxing! Good luck to your daughter and the possibility of studying for an honors degree in micro biology. She must be an outstanding student!

Keeping those of you dealing with a relative or friend with demential or at least diminished ability to drive in my thoughts. It's a difficult position to be in. A few of you have dealt with removal of driving privileges or car ownership in a creative way!

Keeping you in our thoughts, MizT! I think your appointment is Friday. I hope you have had some pain relief in the meantime!

I need to head to bed. We were up this morning at 4:30 after a night of tossing and turning. We babysit our 2-year-old grandie for about 12 hours and got home after 8 p.m. Sending healing energy, positive thoughts, {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, , and prayers for all of you!

Daisy isn't eating much. I haven't been able to get her to eat today, though she ate a few bites of chicken & rice last night.

I'm starting to have a little relapse with the respiratory congestion. Our weather is crazy right now... wet, and ranging from below freezing to Spring-like temperatures. But they change dramatically every day. Up and down. I'm staying as warm and dry as possible and taking meds for it. If I'm not better by next Monday, I'm going back to the doctor. I'm not going to wait until I'm close to death again.

Greetings to All!

Heidi, I'm glad you're keeping on top of your health, as well as Daisy and Patch. We're keeping you in our thoughts and sending extra healing energy your way!

Broni, thanks for sharing the good news! I hope all's well, and you're enjoying your travels - or wherever you choose to 'land' for a while.

Another long day and just home from a meeting. Tomorrow will be multiple hours of my 'music day' - chamber music, string orchestra, and lesson with about 2 1/2 hours or driving, so I'm going to get to bed early tonight.

Sending positive thoughts, {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, healing energy, , and prayers for all who drop by, read, comment, or even just lurk.

Heidi, with the weather changing like that you’d be at risk of getting sick even without being so unwell recently. If it gets really bad and you are thinking about driving, come here first so we can nag you and remind you of how much you do for others. I hope daisy has eaten by now, or at least drank.

Broni, it was great to hear from you! Like June always did, you are sensing what might be a bad day for me. Thank you. I’m glad you have had good news, and hope it stays that way!

Broni was in batemans Bay when June died so knows exactly how ridiculous that news story was. I’d let it go, but it was a NSW newspaper! It’s not like when CNN labelled Victoria as Queensland and put Brisbane in NSW. This was written by a local!

Tomorrow it will be 11 months since I lost Don. I threw his shampoo out today. It took me 6 months to throw out his mouthwash, and the bottle was empty, so I thought that was a big deal.

Midge, bummer you are missing out on your alone time, hopefully the trip will be fun anyway. It’s a shame you can’t legally “borrow” your friend’s car. For his sake, I mean. Taking his license away without taking his car wouldn’t work, so it wouldn’t help to approach his doc either.

Which reminds me of a pet peeve, judges sentencing people caught driving without a license to more time without a license. What do they think that is going to achieve?

When we first bought Gizmo home and tried to put him on a lead, he acted as if we were trying to kill him. It didn’t get any better. I recently decided to try again. I put a collar on him, but didn’t try the lead. I just let him get used to having a collar on. Then we put a harness and lead on him and lead him around the house. Then Alie took him for a short walk outside. He has been half a dozen times now, and shakes with excitement when it’s time to go. Unfortunately his way of saying he wants to say hello is a low key growl. Alie was able to tell one woman he wanted to meet that that’s what was happening. She came over and got licks and cuddles. Other people just ignore him, probably thinking he’s a mean dog. It makes him sad to be ignored....

I have just had a phone call from my son, who is hubby's supervisor at work to tell me 'not to panic' but Col has had an accident and has been taken to hospital. (I remained calm, only just.) It appears that while driving along the main Motorway that goes through Brisbane his truck hit some debris that was on the road. It was flung up and hit his side mirror which came off, through the window and into his eye.
All I know was that he couldn't see and had to stop the truck where he was in peak hour traffic. He was guided off the road by the safety patrol and had to wait until another driver was brought there to take over the truck and then he was taken to the ER.
Now I wait for news. I'm not going over there unless he gets admitted. But I wish I knew what was going on.
What annoys me is that the aircon in his truck has not worked for months and he has had to drive in our current heatwave with the windows down. If it was up, maybe the mirror might still have come through but maybe it could have been deflected.
Compensation claim coming, I'd say!

Happy Valentine's Day! Well, it's nearly ended here, so I'm a day late for all the DUGs. (I don't remember who came up with that, and haven't seen it or heard it in a long time.)

Thinking of you, Suzy, on a difficult day, and sending warm {{{HUGS}}}! We know it has been a tough 11 months and hope you know we are all here to offer support!

Suzy, good news about Gizmo finally accepting a collar and lead. Is there any way Alie or whoever walks him can take along small treats and offer it BEFORE he has a chance to begin to growl. Maybe there's a way to train that growl out of the routine.

DOrA, I'll add my GROAN, though I know it's very late!

CynB, I hope by now you have heard more about Col ! That's difficult to get such a call, but MAYBE a little easier that it came from your son. I can understand the reasoning that he had to stay with the truck until a replacement driver could arrive, but that's not very reassuring. It probably took a fair amount of time during peak rush hour traffic. The most aggravating thing is that it might have been avoided if the company had repaired the air con and his window had been closed. Sending positive thoughts for both of you and lots of {{{HUGS}}} and My fingers and toes are crossed that any injury is minor!

Thinking of all of our friends and sending healing energy, prayers, positive thoughts, {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, and

Hi all, been at the hospital all day. Col was operated on tonight (first op of 2 or 3). He has a badly lacerated cornea and a damaged lens. This op was just to repair what they could and seal the eye from germs. Unless the doctors are wrong it doesn't look good. Worst case scenario is that he will lose his eye, but that is only if it gets badly infected, which is a definite danger from a lacerated eye. I'm not even considering that option, too awful. He will be blind in that eye after this op, and the only hope will probably be a corneal transplant in the future. He only came out of surgery a few hours ago, it's night here, so we won't get the result until the morning. This is a workers comp case and will take weeks, months to find what will happen. It's probable he'll never drive a truck again, so there is always a silver lining. He's in one of Brisbane's biggest hospitals, takes 45 mins to get there. Parking is hard to get and expensive.
