Nice to see another Navy man. My wife and I are transplants in Deming NM from Minnesota.
The 1st ship I was on was the USS Recovery ARS43. Then I went to the USS Alstead AF48. Both ships are long gone.

Thanks for the contact. We are neighbors now in Silver City, just up the road. I was on the USS Newport News, also long gone but her sister ship the USS Salem is in Quincy, Mass. We had a great reunion over there a few years ago with captains and other officers of the line from that era.

Hi Bob, I'm long overdue in welcoming you on your page, but I've finally found just a little time to travel around to those I've enjoyed yet now paid a personal visit. I'll leave you some wine and cheese to enjoy or share, and to let you know how I admire your pictures. Thanks for the glorious images from areas that I have never seen..such daunting hiking grounds, but the reward for doing so is very evident. On top of all of this, I must say...you are a pretty good looking kind of guy too. Your family shots are great...and I hope you have an opportunity to drop in on my page sometime. Peace.

The climb started at 1500m. We reached the guesthouse about 6 hours later which was at 3500m. It was interesting to experience the change of temp, by the time we reached the g/house I needed my thermals. We were woken up at 2.30am to do the final ascent. Out of the 8 of us that bunked in together only 3 of us went, the others were too sore!! In the pitch black I could hear people vomiting from altitude sickness and they had to turn back. Out of approx 100 climbers only about 30 or so made the final ascent. I had two guides with me and they literally dragged my arse the last 100metres - I was so exhausted. The climb down, however, was a doddle!

To get to the photo gallery, click on "Site Map" in the upper right hand corner of almost any page. Be advised that the pictures and comments are usually out of sync by a day or two (sometimes more) in the archives.

Bob, just a quick fly-by to say how great it was to see you on easy today.
In answer to your query about the picture archives, in case you didn't see the answer on easy, if you go up to the menu bar along the top of the page, you will find the 'Site Map'. Go in there and you will find the picture galleries but I don't think they go all the way back. Hope this helps.
