Welcome to Dinosaurland in Utah!

For your musical entertainment, I have provided my shaky camcorder attempt to record Gracie, one of my granddaughters, singing at the local county fair talent show.  Along with this western entertainment, enjoy our barbeque buffalo, potato salad, and strawberry jello salad.  We also have chocolate float cake for dessert, so feel free to help yourselves.  Oh, and allow me to introduce my first great-grandchild - Saphera!

Now to answer your question that you left on my page Wilodene, yes I found the Fremont Indians and I learned a lot in the process. You can tell I have never been to Utah or Colorado or I would have known they were a prehistoric culture and that you have a state park named for them as well. Fascinating what you learn by reading other's comments and looking at their photos. I will make it a point sometime after I retire (less then a yaer) to get down that way and see some of their history. Cheers!

Hi Wilodene
Thank you for your encouraging thoughts! I am supposed to be programming a Year 12 physics module right now, and look what I'm doing!!! I am finding it harder to get motivated the closer I get to the end.....

Hello Wilodene - Thank you for your visit! Alpha-Omega sounds like a Christian Cirriculum? I have used Seton, Abeka and Kolbe. I used Saxon Math throughout High School for one of my sons. I found Abeka Math good also. The last few years I would "pick and choose" for each of the children in all subjects. At one time we had about 6 families just on my road homeschooliing. My next door neighbor is homeschooling her 6 children. They range from 13 years old down to 3 years old.

It is a big job, but a very important one. (And well worth it!)

Hi Wilodene. I was visiting Maureen & saw your "calling Card" so I dropped over here to see you! The photos are amazing! remember doing a lot of them as jigsaws. It's great to see the larger image! Here's a jar of my homemade calamondin (similar to cumquats) marmalade & some pansies from my garden to say for letting me visit!

Hi Wilodene, When I am teaching I have to find a way to account for one in a group letting down the others. My daughter has just been given 0 on a project because her partner left her part at home on the day, though my daughter's part was presented. She is only in Year 8 (14 years old) so this is much less significant in the scheme of things than your experience, but similar in that she was impacted by the actions of others. My instinct was that this was unfair. As a trainee teacher I need to learn from that and find a way around it..... In many, many ways my engineering career was much easier!

Hi Wilodene - My sister went to a Christian school back in the 80's and they used Lifepac! I know it is a great cirriculum. Howell is in the next county from me. There is a very good grade school charter school near Howell. It is operated through one of the universities, but I don't remember which one. They have a High School Charter school in Howell.

Have a great week-end.

Wilodene, thanks for the kind words abut my quilts. I have enjoyed my quilt making, only wish I had started much younger!

If you do want to qiult, I would start with a beginners' class at a local quilt shop, and also look online for quilting instruction. Pick up a couple of quilting magazines, one that has a HOW TO section in each isue.

If you know how to operate a sewing machine, quilting is easy. Start with straight stitched blocks that do not have too many seams. there are many beginners quilts that look much more impressive than a beginner's skill levels. those are my favorites if I need a quilt in a hurry!

Just thought I'd pop in to chat about Chocolate cakes! I googled your suggestion of a float cake, which I presume is a two layer cake with the top layer 'floating' on a centre of strawberries. A Mud cake, on the other hand is a very rich, quite heavy cake that almost seems uncooked because it is 'stodgy'. Often they are iced with a thick layer of Choc ganache, again, a very rich choc icing. It is beautiful served cold with a dollop of whipped cream, but for a heavenly delight, heat a slice in the micro for a few seconds. The ganache melts and forms a sauce and the cake becomes an instant pudding. Delicious served with pouring cream. I think my fingers just got fatter typing that up! Google Chocolate Mud cake, I promise, you wont be disappointed!

Hey Wilodene - did you go on that field trip you mentioned you might take? I loved doing field trips at school in England, they are some of the fondest memories i have of school! The closest thing to them now are the walking/hiking trips that I do, the maps, however, don't seem to be as accurate as the ordnance survey maps I used to remember - hence we spend a fair bit of time getting 'lost'!

Billy is a name I've had since I was a baby but I was only ever called it by my family...it is so weird to be called it now by the sudoku family...when i started here 2 years ago I thought it would give me anonymity...how wrong I was!

Good luck with the camcorder.

Hi Wilodene! Couldn't resist passing on a coincidence... One of my current subjects is called 'inclusive learning and teaching' and is mostly about educating disabled students in regular classes. I have a choice for my next assignment - cooperative learning versus task analysis. Although I haven't decided yet and haven't started the readings, a sentence in the first reading for cooperative learning seemed to jump out of the page at me....‘ cooperative incentive structures create a situation in which the only way group members can attain their own personal goals is if the group is successful’. Sound familiar?

Back again.... my daughter brings home her science practicals so I can use them when I am teaching and has given me one she did when studying sedimentary rocks. It appears to be a skills based practical, but also lots of fun for the kids. The rocks are basically an Australian classic - called chocolate crackles at birthday parties. I thought you might enjoy sharing it with your grandchildren - I usually leave out the coconut, cocoa is basically solid vegetable shortening...

Making a Sedimentary Rock
Ingredients:
125g copha (cementing agent)
1/2 cup powdered sugar (white clay particles)
2 tablespoons cocoa (silt)
1/2 cup coconut (sand)
2 1/2 cups Rice Bubbles (pebbles)
2 fossils per cup - animal shaped candy

(I can't remember the US name for Rice Bubbles, I think it might be Rice Crispies????)

Method:
1. Heat copha in saucepan over tripod and bunsen burner.
2. When copha is melted add powdered sugar.
3. Add cocoa
4. Add coconut.
5. Turn bunsen burner OFF
6. Add rice bubbles
7. In each cup add a small layer of ingredients
8. Then add first fossil.
9. Add another layer of ingredients.
10. Add second fossil.
11. Add final layer of ingredients.
12. Place in fridge to set.

G'day Wilodene. I haven't visited before but I came today as I thought you may have had a more recent photo of dear little Lucelia. Instead I found the most wonderful gallery of magnificent photos. Are these places close to where you live? I have not been to the USA and unfortunately will probably never do so but on these Sudoku pages I have found many pictures of the amazing versatility and variety of the landscapes in your country. I go exploring via the internet whenever I see new places such as this and try and find out a lot more but nothing is as good as the real thing. Thanks again and best wishes.

Gday Wilodene, just passing, thought I'd drop in. Hope this note finds you and yours well.
Everything is fine our way. The weather is starting to warm up and that means, if you come by looking for me, I'll be out in the garden, my favourite place. Today, I dug out part of the driveway to try and level it, then I used that clay to make surrounds for my plants to contain water when (if) it rains. Exciting, huh!
